Hammer Warriors?? Do they still exist?
Hammer warriors exist in wvwvw in zergblobs. Then again really anything with cc and aoe works in zergblobs. In fights which require skill and class capabilities then no not really. A few wars here and there put together highlight reels of ganking uplevels or terrible players without stability/stunbreaks/a friggin’ dodge key bound but… yeah. Hammer, and warriors as a whole, would be a bit better off in the viability dept. if they had any kind of sustain like every other class.
That said I still enjoy running a hammer out of sheer stubborness in w3 quite a bit running:
0
0
30
20
20
Boon duration runes with shake it off, balanced stance, fgj and sor for the most part. Built around high to perma durations on stability, retaliation, fury, 11-18 might stacks, and swiftness.

My WvW build when I run with hammer
It’s funny build. I hope that u enjoy it.
Yes. Hammer is borderline mandatory in most organized WvW groups. It’s also quite nice 1v1 despite what people seem to think (mind you it’s a very different playstyle from GS).
If we’re talking PvP here defektive’s hammer build.
Jangeol – WvW Warrior
I’m using Hammer along with Axe/Sword/Shield in WvW..
My entire WvW guild warriors use Hammer
Dungeon Master
Been there. Done that.
Yes they do and they are merciless in melee if you don’t have plenty of stun breaks it or mobility. Speced for certain traits and auto attack hits like a truck.

I always run with hammer in both wvw and spvp.
1. Blast finisher of earthshaker is a must for stacking might and heal nearby allies.
2. You have cc which are very useful in team fight or zerg vs zerg.
For dueling I take 20 10 30 10 0. (Berserker’s Power, Distracting Strikes, Unsuspecting Foe, Embrace the Pain, Merciless Hammer, Spiked Armor and Leg Specialist.)
Hammer combo without frenzy(make sure they have spent all stability and stun breaks)
Hammer shock(1sec immobilise)>
Earthshaker>
Backbreaker>
Staggering Blow>
Fierce Blow
Earthshaker’s stun comes before the dmg so hammer burst will always crit followed by backbreaker(Unsuspecting Foe). Awesome dmg even with soldier’s gears.

You can reference this video. Sanny is a well played roamer but his build works well in the zerg blob as well. Always easier to destroy people when you’re not being focus fired!
If you swap to Axe/Shield over GS you will lose two gap closers and 100B but you pick up block, stun, a solid auto attack, and a decent burst ability with axe.

Defektive hammer is nice. There is a thread about it here. And 1v1 it is pretty strong. BM ranger is still a tough matchup though
my favorite hammer build that has such great synergy aoe crip/immob immob gives fury jump in with hammer smash interrupt a few people. interrupt gives 3 stacks of cunfusion which when they activate a skill usually hits them for another 500 its nasty ive watched people melt to this however looks like they nerfed confusion somewhere cause it use to be like 800 . If you want to know more about playstyle pm me

Hammer all the way
I go hammer and GS the GS is for mobility and the ranged cripple/immob (leg specialist)
utils are bulls charge/sig of stamina/and endure pain
The last 10 pts in discipline I been moving around to see what I like better. I throw those 10 into strength for resorative strength to free up the util bar and use fear or bolas. After messing around with it I put it back into discipline. 30 in defense is good to for balance stance.
I wont say its the best weapon but it offers alot more control to go along with damage but I like it more than the other sets . Its slow you just have to get use to setting it up with GS etc bait them to blow a few dodges and stun breakers. I get a 8 sec cripple on a 12 sec cd, its 9 secs if you have 20pts in strength. Then your 15 sec cripple on GS that will have immob if you take leg specialist that is alot of cc.

Been using a Hammer WvW build since January, and I won’t turn away from it unless anet desides to nerf what I fell so in love with (Earthshaker Madness)
awesome guys lots of good suggestions good to see theres plenty of Hammer warriors out there cheers for the info all
In zerg v zerg fights hammer warriors are so easy to shut down. Organized zergs now stack necros which are super strong in those fights and properly traited wells will have perma chill on warriors. Organized zergs also have stability.

Organized zergs can shut pretty much anything down thats melee. Thats when you go into your bag and pull a rifle or bow out.

warriors best friend for zerg fighting longbow burst so much fun watching a zerg run into that fire field and melt. Run the signet of precision or whatever its called activate it so you can drop it again after cooldown. It may only tick 1k plus fire dmg 1.5k but usually noobs ikittenerg dont pay attention to where they are standing so it adds up fast on them plus like an 8k burst arrow gg.
but no more zerg fighting lets not de rail this guys thread
yes it would not be feasible to control the fight with the hammer and finish with the GS? or would it be more useful to ax / shield? the ax of the same damage from GS to finish? or compensate for the shield? and would not be good hammer + rifle?
longbow brings more utility in a group than rifle, fire field, projectile finishers, blind, blast finisher, coupled with hammer its awesome if you are running an organized group

What a Bs question lol! xD
Hammer is the best warrior build for guild groups. We run 4+ hammer wars every time with a guild event. Heck, i’m even experimenting with hammer in sPvP since they nerfed Quickness.
There are many viable builds. I run with 2.1k toughness tho so i’m pretty tanky. My damage ain’t that low tho. Some prefer hammer/GS but most would take sword/X
With X being a warhorn, shield or axe.

We make fun off greatsword warriors in my guild
—> hammer is the way to go in WvW
After 800 hours of WvW with my warrior, I find hammer/sword-warhorn the best combination.
Greatsword does work and is fun, but doesn’t make up for the long root flurry gives you. And yea, replacing hammer? I don’t think so.
Hammer is great for solo fights too. You poop on thiefs/necro’s/rangers/engineers. I rarely lose a fight, and you can easily disengage when you are losing with warhorn and sword leap.

I run hammer in PvE/WvW. It’s my favorite weapon in the game.
While I still haven’t settled on my build (since release?), I would generally suggest building up from:
20 Defense (to get “merciless hammer”)
10 Tactics (to get “leg specialist”)
15 Discipline (to get “fast hands”)
Merciless hammer is a no-brainer for a hammer build. Leg Specialist is important for locking opponents down in WvW so it’s harder for them to dodge your hammer. It’s also good when you choose a secondary weapon set that can also cripple. Fast weapon swapping is used to get the hammer out of your hands as fast as possible once your main hammer skills are on CD.
None of these are strict “requirements”, but they work well together. You still have 25 more trait points to grab more defense, more damage, more mobility, or shout healing.
Your mileage will vary. Good luck.

In organized zergs you also have tons of condition removal to keep off chills/cripples and boon stripping abilities to get rid of stability.
Condition applying is always more plentiful and more abundant then condition removal, especially when you have necros who properly condition bomb. I use hammer and sword/warhorn usually in WvW, sometimes going hammer/GS when doing open gate defenses and the like. I was always a huge proponent of hammers and still like them but it is so easy to shut down the warrior hammer pain trains. Just like it is easy to shut down warriors in competitive pvp.

Running a hammer/GS build atm and loving it, with mobile strikes i’m hardly ever not on my target
the truth is when sword / X is better than GS and what time should I use?

Hammer is easily the most fun you can have with a warrior. And it doesn’t have that crap long swing time that guardian has to deal with.
nice thread didnt expect to get this many replys since leaving the game many months ago i deleted my old warrior (as a joke only to find out GW2/Arena net dont have the tech to restore deleted chars so that jokes on me i guess) so i will be starting all over again ive just always liked hammer and back then i play around with hammer alot in mist pvp area good to know many are still doing well with it and gives me great inspiration to get leveling my new Warrior (17+atm )

omg yes my first toon i made was guard but the swing timers and lack of pure damage pushed me away from that class shame really they had really cool hammer abilitys but after playing warrior was just too good then
Been running Gs/Hammer for months and months now (WvW), will not be changing it any time soon.

Not true. In an organized group, there is so much AoE condi removal that you rarely have any condi on you for more than a second. Unless the other team is running nothing but necros.

from what I read, most people say longbow has no synergy with a hammer, how would you do a build with hammer and longbow as your weapon set?

Mind Smack – Mesmer
Running in a zerg you have an additional blast finisher, AoE Blind, and hitting someone with pin down to start your hammer chain is awesome and can even free up that bolas/bull’s charge utility for something else. Also, using adrenaline building utilities correctly you can stack might with fire burst + LB3 + earthshaker. Laying down the fire field and fighting in it is also a great move for the additional DPS, the whirl of the hammer and maybe using the leap from bull’s for a fire aura.

Not to hijack, but do people still use hammer in PvE? When and why?
I wouldn’t lol PvE is all about chipping away at them bars and between axe and GS out damaging over time and defiant ruining the primary advantage of hammer no reason to.

Hammer can be useful in dungeons, there are many instances where you are bombarded with tons of mobs and CC really helps in those situations (f.e. cof p2 protect event, pretty much most of the at ac, except bosses, Urban Battlegrounds Fractal, Dredge fractal and so on).
I currently run Hammer|Axe x Axe / Rifle and find myself switching between Hammer and axes rather often.
