I have noticed since a few patches ago, the shield or sword is not always blocking attacks (pure damage, conditions, and cc). In the past, it would block the majority of attacks except for a few aoe’s and boss attacks in my opinion. Now, I notice in several of the dungeons or WvW, conditions and cc are not always blocked. Sometimes, I have even seen it not block pure damage (and no this damage wasn’t coming from an unblockable skill). I have talked to a few others and they have shared similar concerns about the shield/sword.

Please just post if you have noticed any difference in the way the Block procs. Thanks.

It is only a block, if a skill is unblockable or becomes unblockable you still get hit. For example Signet of Might active, will go through all blocks because it made your attacks unblockable.

This might be the reason why you are getting hit.

Nothing better than Kill shot through a guardian shelter when he thinks he’s safe in WvW.

I have not had any issues with shield/sword blocks myself.

Some skills are unblockable,like thiefs choking gas for e.g.You can also be fighting a warr with signet of might being unblockable.

I haven’t noticed anything different, although I haven’t specifically been watching/testing.

Some pulls cannot be countered by block. Most notably, this includes a mesmer’s into the void as well as an engineer’s magnet. Additionally, being hit by a guardian’s binding blade before blocking will not counter the pull portion of the skill. An engineer’s magnet bomb may ignore blocking, but I’ve never tried it and next to no one uses it anyways.

The most recent thing I noticed was in the Scarlet Holo Fights.

If I recall the Blue holo knight’s big AoE cone would knock you down but not damage you if you were shield blocking.

I think there was another attack in that fight that wouldn’t knock you down but would still hurt you if you blocked, but I can’t remember which.

I have noticed the same thing on my Mesmer. I actually notice this mostly in PvE against certain mobs. It’s perfectly possible that some skills were updated to be unblockable. Whether or not this change was intended……who knows these days.

Some skills go past block in PvP,if you have power signet you will see you can get past block if you activate it
