Help dueling engi
P/S is the surface of the engineer’s build. There are 3 things I can be certain of when you fight one that is running a “regular” build. They will have Healing turret, Supply crate, and Incendiary Powder. Past that, you have to identify his other 3 skills. Most, but not all, run tool kit for the added defense and cc→damage combo. Then, many will have grenade or bomb kit. Both of these kits play out fairly similarly. The closer you stay to the engy, the more damage you take from conditions being applied rapidly. The last slot tends to be a defensive cooldown, often elixir s, but it can also be a third kit or one of several other skills.
Alternatively, he could be a condition turret engy, which means expect flame turret for sure, then some combination of either rocket, net, rifle, or thumper. The key once again is range. Stand outside the turret’s range, they can’t do anything.
Now, general counterplay is difficult, because engineers have a lot of rapidly reapplying conditions. Assuming you’re using Healing Signet, you’ve got an uphill battle, as poison and burning will easily overpower your passive heal, and their own heal creates a water field that can be blasted multiple times for huge amounts of healing. The supply crate is usually a battle win for the engineer, since fighting them inside it does not work.
Your best bet, if you’re really having trouble with engies, is probably s/s+longbow with doom sigils. The longbow’s large aoe f1 makes cleansing ire easy to land, and engineers have very limited condition clear (about 2 every 15 seconds on the normal builds, along with converting the first incoming condition into a boon every 15 seconds). Given you can apply bleed, burn, torment, and poison fairly regularly, you can kill them with well timed condition burst.
If you’re going power warrior, 85-100% of the time in a 1v1, you’re going to lose. Engineers excel at control, both hard and soft, have excellent defense skills (blocks, invulns, protection uptime) and condition engies run rabid amulets, which means condition damage, precision, and toughness. You’ll usually have that lovely 8 or so second window of zerker stance to do what damage you can, and then you’ll get shut down. Best advice I can give you? Bring a friend. Preferably a necro.
A well timed doom sigil can make wonders. But P/S engis can be very hard if not impossible sometimes. It’s one of those classes when you win you have no idea why and when you loose you have no idea why.
Use ranged weapon, carry lots of cleanses and stun breaks. energy sigils.
warrior and we’re the best class” Eugene
Also running a condition build or Celestial hybrid can give engi a very hard time.

I agree. This is the best innate build path for engies as a whole. As you mention here, they have terrible condition cleanses. As well, odds are that they will have only one stun break with anywhere from 40s-60s cool down. That knowledge is easily exploitable.

Condi engis are definitely a tough duel for most warrior builds. There are a few main keys when fighting one.
#1: Dodge their grenades, this is easily most of an engi’s DPS, when they go into grenade kit get out of melee range and make them waste it. It is harder to land grenades from range and the speed of travel is very slow.
#2: Avoid the pull + prybar combo. It honestly isn’t very hard to dodge, it is very telegraphed.
There honestly isn’t much you can do in the way for being pew pewed by pistol or elixir gun because they are ranged and easily proc IP. However pack enough condition removal (perhaps invest in cleansing sigils or take brawler’s recovery).
Longbow is always a great weapon to take for condition removal, and of course going a condi build will improve your chances. Although an engi usually only has one stun breaker, a good engi will avoid most of the CC from the hammer because it is highly telegraphed or mace because it requires full on melee range.
