Currently working on a build that is very powerful to counter conditions and I have used both sets of runes on Sentinels armor. With Hoelbrak Runes I can stack my Might very high very fast and can put some very nice damage out in Tank gear while in melandru runes I am slightly more durable and -5% condition duration/ stun duration. My question to you is;

Is it better suited for a Hybrid build that utilizes Forceful greatsword+ signet of rage + Sigils of battle + FGJ (sometimes) to use Superior runes of Hoelbrak over Melandru?

I feel I get more utility out of the hoelbrak runes. and Maintain -93% Movement condition duration and -60% condition duration rather then -98% and 65% respectively.

What are your expereiences with these two sets of runes coming from a WvW and sPvP stand point?

If you want wreck havoc then go with Hoelbrak.
If you want to soak up a little more damage then Melandru is for you.

I’ve used both runes in WvW and sPvP. It’s a 50/50 for me.

Talking about WvW.

Melandru is great because of the -25% stun duration. Against other warriors this is actually a great help. For one, it pretty much completely screws up the mace burst+HB combo, as you will be able to dodge the last ~2 hits (the last hit is the biggest damage).

Toughness is good, but you already spec for that with Sentinel, so point for Hoelbrak there.

Hoelbrak gives you more power, which I like personally. If you utilize both power and condition damage, Hoelbrak ftw, as might boosts both.

Be advised, the 20% might duration increase, although it does have synergy with Forceful GS, that trait only gives you 5 second might, becoming 6 seconds with Hoelbrak. This is negligible.

However, you seem to use quite a few might inducing moves. Therefore in your case, I would probably choose Hoelbrak. Also because the extra power will probably help you more then extra toughness. The loss of stun reduction is just too bad.

My general rule is that if I’m using Soldier gear I use Hoelbrak, but if I’m using Zerker I’ll go Melandru. I like to make my builds fairly balanced stat wise and it’s been working well for me thus far.

If you’re going Forceful GS then Hoelbrak makes the most sense with the +might duration.
