So I’m trying to get back into GW2 again, but I just keep getting reminded of why I left in the first place, the warrior seems to suck at PvP (WvW)

1. Little cc removal – we can dish out cc, in the form of blunt weapons but we ourselves have really no good way of removing cc on ourselves. Heal removes 2, shake it off 1. But there’s so much cc in GW2/WvW you’ll most likely just get cc’d again right off the bat.

2. Slow/Easily Kited – our only movement buff is from Signet of Rage. While other classes seem to be able to be boosted 90% of the time, or keep you cc’d so that you can’t even catch up to them. Most of the time it feels like I’m chasing after a target I can’t catch. And when I do catch someone, they just run around heal back up, and by the next time I catch them, their heal is back up

3. Little Survivability – because warriors are so slow with little form of cc removal, even though we seem to have the most hp, we still get dropped pretty quick. While others classes with half our hp can run around and kite and last twice as longer.

4. Little Damage – so atm, I’m rolling a hammer warrior, and we do kitten all damage, in theory, we have tonnes of cc, and should be able to keep people stun locked, but in practice this just doesn’t happen, and I don’t think I could ever 1v1 anyone because all the reasons mentioned above.

the only things i can kill 1v1 is noobs and other warriors and guards nothing else i am good at warrior, warrior needs a total rebuild.

Juular summed it up, but Guardians are pretty much impossible when they have a decent build.

No class can 1v3 unless the opponents are bad. Warrior can win against bad players too, sure, but against an equal skilled enemy of an opposing class you make very little chance. Of course we’re assuming that you and your opponent both know each others class through and through, at which point Warrior cannot do anything to win.

warrriors have excellent cc/condition removal, soldier runes are best, you remove 2 from sio, 1 from fgj, 2 from mending, and if your using horn thats another two. yojaks build works well in spvp/wvw as a skirmisher type good dps/survivability/cond removal/mobility.

hammer shout while low on dps makes you very strong 1v1, you won’t die easily, and you can easily engage 2-3 players while still being able to escape, or take the brunt of thier dmg until help comes.

dps spike builds can kill ppl so quickly they won’t know what hit them, but you sacrifice survivability.

considering all your reasons for why you don’t like warrior in pvp are wrong, i’d gain more experience with pvp, and/or pick another class. alot of playing a good warrior in pvp is knowing when not to engage, when to leave a battle before the point of no return, and being familiar with all the other classes/builds so that you know when to dodge, kite, press your attack.

I have played a thief.
I have played a warrior.
I did not find an ability that allowed thief to survive warrior onslaught except stealth-and-run. Which unfortunately does not work against some of the clever people who can guess where you plan to run and feed you whirlwind strike or something of the kind while you are stealthed..
I’ve also found that unless a player knows about existence of a dodge roll, they are easy to kill if you are playing a thief. As well as I’ve found out that not many do. And half of those who do seem to click it with mouse on character UI or something.

While I do think the reports of Warriors being underpowered and easily kitable are greatly exaggerated (while still being real issues), I have to strongly disagree with this sentence. I used to play a Warrior, and frankly these single doses of one or two conditions removed are terrible for reliable condition removal. Not to mention the shouts sacrifice a lot of other utility. It’s useful yes and a decent build overall, but if you are concerned with condition removal this is not the way to tackle it.

I play an Condi Engineer and frankly if I load a Warrior up with conditions they have more then eight conditions on them. You can use up every single condition removal you have at once to get rid of them all, or slowly kitten away at the latest itty bitty stack of bleed I put up over and over. Condition removal relying purely on removing 1 or 2 at a time doesn’t get you that far. You are much better off with Signet of Stamina, Lyssa w/ Elite, and Mending then a shout build if you are concerned with condition removal. Condition overload is a thing everyone needs to consider when dealing with condition removal. Some classes cannot overload conditions (like the Warrior), but the good ones can not only rapidly reapply conditions but they dump them like a thick gravy all over you.

Like what Ayestes said, your best bet is to take runes of Lyssa and signet of stamina. Then stamina and your elite will remove all conditions, though it is a long CD. This will make Warrior not get totally facerolled vs any class that often dumps conditions.

Mending alone, in practice, just doesn’t cut it. And shake it off is a joke for condition removal. This almost means that signet of stamina is mandatory.

Also, since when is warhorn adequate in removing conditions?

I my self run and gun, i need speed i feel fast but like every other top classes we still slow, gs i always beat, thiefs mesmrs ele, in wvw , its game over they can run away come back full health and kit you, and cc, they downed they get back up and health full and attack again again, the system is broken, in my guild in wvw i have no jobs to do but man siege and warriors are good for nothing, dont get me wrong i love to be more supportive and feel more helpful, i wish blocking on sheild would last a ton longer say inline warriors with sheild could take full inpack of a 30+ zerg with B stance that there would end zerging., why rangers bombard, more to real life tactics well from years ago lol. love this game tho hope for the future.

Please show us your video of you going 1vGroup (3+) in competent fights and winning. No sarcasm, the warrior community really needs videos that compete with the big 3.

I’ve got no problems to win vs every single class in wvw with my warrior , except P/D thieves and some mesemr builds, wich i can kite with my high mobility.
i use traits 0 /20 /30 /0/20 . * with auto attack/ auttarget / melle assist turned off* i can use rush betwen 20 enemy’s at 1200 range away, and whirlwind at 450 range (600 with swiftness )
My condition removal comes from sigil of purity on GS / generosity on rifle (5 seconds weapon swap) , and signet of stamina. Imobilize removal from mobile strikes ( whirlwind , rush ,bull charge)
I use pasive stances on defence , every 90 seconds an pasive stability and endure pain , wich allow me to escape from the battles i lose, if i decide to dodge the fight in time.
Yes , i can outrun P/D thief, and i can outrun D/D thief if he wasted some of his initiative.
For healing i use healing signet, adrenal heal, omnomberry ghost 350 hp /sec pasive + 352 lifesteal /crit
With this defensive / mobile build my stats are:
2880 p def // 21500 hp // 53 crit chance (maintenance oil /omnomberry included) // 93 crit power // 3070 p attack (goes up to 3300-3500 constant durring hb ).
Pro’s :
high mobility
8-9 seconds endure pain
5 seconds stability
high damage output on melle /range
decent condition removal.
decent pasive healing / lifesteal
Con’s :
-you cannot control your stability and pasive endure pain.
-food buff dependent (without food bufs i lose 12 critical chance) and more then half of regeneration
- only 2 CC’s rifle’s knockback and bull charge
-Cooldown on survaivability skills are too high , signet of stamina (36 sec trained / pasive /active stances – 90 seconds).

We can (and will) argue forever about which professions suck and which profession’s are overpowered. Every profession has bugs and broken (and/or poorly thought out) skills.

But at the end of the day, the ONLY 2 things that matter is gear and the player behind the keyboard. And warriors are probably the most reliant on good gear to be competitive, and consequently benefit the most from better gear.

Warriors have sub-par escapes, CC, and condition removal because we have an insane health pool with potentially crazy passive health regen that offsets bleeding, burning, and aoe damage.

Choose your fights – and think with your brain, not your greatsword.

Well gs is by far best warrior weapon for 1 vs 1 situations and i will explain you why.
With hammer /axe you won’t be able to kill an thief with 30 points in SA , since he will eat your cc/s on shadow refuge, while he regen 800hp /second for 4 seconds + 350 every second stealthed after refuge. you need burst in order to win vs him and an 7k damage- eviscerate- will not be enough. That’s from my thief experience on bunker build , where i got no problem to win vs hammer // axe /shield warriors, while i don’t engage vs agresive GS warriors ,since they can kill me before i can react. ( agresive are the ones who spam auto attacks and whirlwind , and hope they hit you. They hit sometimes and gs auto attacks hurt more then hammer’s burst skill )
Same goes vs elementarists, , without an rifle you cannot harass them to much. With rifle you can control the battle . An good timed knock back followed by volley will make them switch to water , and when they got water on CD, you can bull charge +100b forcing them to use mistform.
Guardian will just outheal your hammer attacks.

I don’t believe a warrior is the best 1v1 class in the game and I wouldn’t spec mine towards that goal in WvW.

WvW is all about group gameplay and group buffs.

My build focuses on Power/Toughness/Vitality and keeping the speed buff up all the time by way of my Centaur runes. I tend to be a distraction in order to protect my squishy allies who do the real damage.

if you die by the gs then your a noob, run and gun spec i run, just played wvw and the most op class thiefs ,mesmr they need the biggest nerf remove all clones just to one not 3, 1v1 not 1v 3 maybe 4, the stealth come on give me full up time block with shield.

As far as I’m experienced in sPvP ( not talking about W3, itt’s not a real form of competition) the best warrior can do is go rough aggresive playstyle. I’ve tried tons of semi-dps builds, tried defensive builds and it’s not that way. Of course, some builds are better or worse is some situations, but most viable set for me is glass 20/20/0/10/20 with GS/Hammer. I don’t really like Axe+Shield in offhand. Why? Lacks CC. Sure it’s better in big zergs, but you for hard escapes. However, I found out that hammer gives me muuch more survival and control than any other offhand weapon. Great to switch right after GS burst, gives you 4 hard controls with immobilize on cripple+ weakness, great with other Glasses, who Iconstantly beat. Warrior in this build really depends on staying on the target, so I use Balanced Stance, Bulls, Bolas. If you manage to catch foe in chain, they’re dead. Even D/D eles and support guardians (using sigil of rage on gs/hydromancy hammer). The only problem are mesmers. Usually avoid better ones.

Mattidore, I think your problem is that you’re not exploring the warrior’s capabilities and other weapon sets. Warrior’s have some of the highest mobility in the game, and in WvW, mobility = survivability.

Hammer is a difficult main weapon to run in WvW. It is not a damage weapon. Because of that you need coordinated teammates that can hit people while you have them locked down. Not to mention it is not a very mobile weapon, so you are almost entirely reliant on your weapon swap for mobility and survivability. Lastly the CC that hammer does provide for the most part can be broken with stun breaks which is not always ideal.

I think other weapon sets provide better survivability, better mobility, and greatly increased killing power.

Greatsword is almost ideal for WvW. It has high mobility – Whirlwind Attack + Rush, some minor CC – Bladetrail which can be further improved with the “Leg Specialist” trait, and it does high burst damage – Hundred Blades.

As for weapon swaps there’s a couple of things you really need to think about.

Mobility – charge/leaps, swiftness
Survivability – high mobility, condition removal, hard defense
Utility – Supplemental actions, usually snares or combo fields

There’s one weapon set that fills all three of these categories. Sword/Warhorn

Sword provides yet another leap/gap closer(savage leap). Hamstring provides some CC(again made better by ‘leg specialist’). Flurry(burst skill) immobilizes, which can allow you to hold someone still for 4 seconds(which can set up 100 blades nicely).

Warhorn is for survivability. It may not seem like much at first, but it can save you AND your teammates. Charge supplements your signet of rage so you can keep swiftness up permanently. It also removes cripple and immobilize. Call to arms gives you and your team mates vigor which allows you to roll more. If you choose to go into tactics warhorn can be made even better with the ‘Quick Breathing’ trait.

Lastly and very importantly. In the Discipline at 20 points you have access to the trait ‘Mobile Strikes.’ This allows any skill that generates movement to break immobilize.

Using Greatsword as your main and Sword/Warhorn as your swap, you can chase down and CC just about any class. You can run away from large mobs. You can deal large amounts of damage. You support your group.

I’m not telling you that you need to run GS + Sword/Warhorn. I’m just giving you an idea of what is available to you.

Warrior is one of the least played tPvP professions. They have no role to fill on a team. Thieves are much better suited for the burst role because they have better mobility, survivability, and they deal more damage.

There is no other role that the warrior is even remotely adequate at filling.

EDIT: OP is talking about WvW. I’ll leave my rant though. Developers need to be made aware of the uselessness of the warrior in tPvP.

Fairly right. I’d say it’s more:
Mobility + Mitigation (dodge/evasion/block/etc)+Sustainability (HP Regen, etc) = overall power in PvP. This is why guards, eles, thieves and mesmers are so fuggin’ strong. They have all 3 in spades.

learn your class before complaining

warrior is like theif, their mostly ment to roam, pop outta nowhere make you disapear, go back to roaming and about 1v1’s.. 1v1 doesnt mean everything, but warriors can 1v1 pretty kitten well.. only class I have problems with are good ele’s( obviously ). If you think you got bad survivability, learn to to dodge/block/endurepain whats important, and don’t stand in aoe’s in teamfights, thats why your better to roam, but you can teamfight well you just need a good team to protect you with their spells/utilities.

- Just noticed you talked about wvw. wvw you need totally different builds out of the ordinary. Horn is amazing wvw, but than again, where are you going ?

If you think war is bad at 1v1, just change class, maybe this one just isn’t your playstyle or ment for you. I 1v1 very often, at least 1 hour a day, sometimes more, and I almost never lose vs any class.

Warrior is simply not for new players. Its supposed to be but it isn’t, which is a problem. I would say watch my stream and maybe I’ll be able to help you out when I talk about Warrior related stuff.

I would pick main-hand sword over mace ALL DAY in such build.
1v1 it is maybe better, but you are a real SNAIL because of complete lack of gap closers.
Mace control abilities are decent, but sword flurry is godlike because its 4+ sec immobilize.
I could see that build getting ranged and kited to death pitifully, to be honest. If it would be 1v1.

I have a warrior mes and guard, I mostly play the mes in wvw because you can pretty much just pick out anyone in a zerg and kill them. Today I specced my tank to 20/20/0/0/30 put my zerker gear on grabbed the rifle axe & horn and had the most fun I had in a long time.

Oddly I think I died less than I normally do, being a tank with a hammer just makes you run into a bad situations.

PvP:

1. get a greatsword
2. get a mace/x or a hammer
3. trait for unsuspecting foe (and leg specialist if you pick hammer)
4. bait out stunbreaks
5. go nuts

There are a lot of viable alternatives to greatsword + x / x, but they will not be superior to greatsword + x / x. That said, there is not much a warrior can do that another class can’t do better, besides maybe baiting those stunbreaks.

There will be things that can beat you, either being op or a counter to your spec. But it’s nowhere near as bad as in…

WvW

1. get a hammer
2. get a longbow
3. get something for mobility
4. join the zerg
5. stun to win

Keep the longbow in your bag for sieges, but otherwise just stun to win. Stay with a zerg though, you’ll be pretty easy to take out by op damage specs even in full survivability gear.

Why?

Because their op-ness gets magnified by such a large amount due to gear and the way damage scales v.s. defense. Also, culling makes thieves and mesmers that much more annoying…

I guess I play differently. I play for support. I stick with group and use my shout heals and my horn cleanses. I can’t blow people up, or probably even 1v1 much, but wvw isn’t about me, it’s about /us/. It’s amazing to know you’re supporting so much.

In terms of spvp and tpvp…
Reroll another class… even tho this game advertises itself as being skill based
[ funny since warriors have a description that tells us were ( the only class ) reliant on others – how is relying on others skill based ? ] it just isnt in case of the warrior.
( i know its sad to tell people to reroll to another, probably more powerful or even fotm class/specc, since we all know that doesnt fix anything regarding balance in general but personal level of fun or frustration )

On a warrior… even when you are at the top of your game, most other classes can easily outplay you by puttin in less player effort – or the same level you put it, but far surpassing your classes abilities in that case.

People will QQ at our 100b speccs… while gladly accepting thieves and other classes with much higher burst/dps [ and survivability ] that dont need 2+ utility slots to support their almost only burst dmg skill once every blue moon [ 60sec ].

If you love GW2 pvp… play and enjoy it, but dont kill your fun by sticking to the warrior class just because you may like it a lot [ like me ], because it wont perform anywhere near almost every other class no matter your level of skill.

i made thief right away after my last post and the ways you can play it feels so ridiculously crazy its a paper class but the things they can do … thief with a full set of exotics and well done build its Superior to warrior hands down if u die as a thief l2p if you clam killing thief’s with warrior you never fought good thief and this probably goes for mesmer eli and guardian as well if you killed one you fought bad player.

the state of balance in this game is so bad it can be capture in one sentence

Elementalist ( light armor) is better at tanking then guardian or warrior will ever be ( heavy armor )

I can 1v1 anyone (thieves included, but they hide 90% of the time before the kill). The only times I get flack is a Mesmer and someone else, or a ranger AND someone else. I don’t have any real issues that aren’t directly related to gear (in WvW).

I approve of this message. Warrior currently has no place in PvP. Try guardian if you like the warrior archetype. They use most of the same weapons and they’re a heavy class. And most importantly, they’re actually useful in PvP.

All I see from your posts specifically are veiled tears really.. whine until ANET decides to make the Warrior broken class.

Rifle/ Axe+Shield with Signet of Furry, Frenzy, Endure pain, Signet of Rage works for me. Tough you can swap Frenzy with Balanced state for safety purpose. Bola also work wonder if they already fixed it.
