How Is Rifle, and What Goes Good With It?
I don’t know, I really don’t like the weapon much. It’s fairly useless unless you get hefty amounts of crit damage, the autoattack (IE downtime if the enemy counters your primary forms of damage) is beyond horrible and if the enemy decides they want to push on you you’re 100% kittened besides a bad #5 skill knockback saving you time until you can swap.
It might work as an alternate set (I wouldn’t build around it unless you’re going 420 Xx call of duty killshot build Xx for hotjoin rofls) but I just love longbow too much to use something that’s not longbow, but if I were, I’d probably put it with a zerkers build with gs on the other set (Another weapon that takes good advantage of high direct damage).
really bad engineer

Nice range if you find you are needing range. Of course more range equals less risk equals less damage by design.
Rifle + sPvP doesn’t mix well, mainly due to the conquest style of the maps.
If you want an enemy off of a point. Longbow because of the AoEs and Conditions works okay. But the rifle, even with pierce. Just doesn’t work too well. Melee weapons can make an enemy get off of a point way better then a rifle, with the exception of the rifle butt skill + cripple.
Rifle is pretty great in PvE and can be okay in WvW as well.
I use Rifle on my Warrior purely because he’s a Charr. XD

I use it for the same reason.. I can’t stand how longbow look on charr.
Maybe one day rifle become viable, but some nerfs will be needed like power scaling to killshot
Doing that two-step “stack a ton of vuln on someone then hit them with a 3 adrenalin kill-shot” thing is quite a bit of fairly easily on-call burst, I have found. Sometimes it is useful for potting someone that has gotten away from someone on your team and is about to heal up, or just straight gibbing a thief or elementalist that’s playing ring-around-the-CC’d-target.
I have found it is useful in WvW due to the increased range giving you a little more lee-way time, and the fairly short cooldown ranged snare is nice for grabbing someone and holding them down long enough for the zerg to catch them.
I have made a warrior rifle build that hits extremely hard. If I get a good shot in using Kill shot I usually hit from between 10k-18k. There is nothing like downing a dancing thief who thinks he is out of range. Yesterday, using the pierce trait, I did a kill shot that hit three enemy players for 12k, 18k and 14k, downing them all. However there are some major downsides to this berserker style build. You will die a lot, you will miss a lot, and you won’t get as many kills as other classes. I have had to learn to stay with the zerg and be a support class. Any heroics and I end up dead. I’d certainly recommend a rifle build for anyone that wants something different to have a little fun with.
Yeah, my warrior is an Asura, and I want to use the rifle for flavor reasons, but it seems of little use except in situations where there is only one opponent, i.e. dungeons. For spvp I will probably be stuck with longbow as a longrange weapon unless/until they decide to improve rifle.
