Q:
How are warriors?
A lot of fun in pve, more or less useless in pvp.
Loaded question. In a way they’re the most similar of all the profession changes. Like in GW1, weapon skills are of course tied to weapons. They still have stances, signets and so on. They still sort of operate in the same way, being marginally tanky while at the same time in PvP focusing on sustained DPS followed by a single burst.
Unfortunately the core mechanics of the game have changed around the profession. With no monks, everyone dies faster in group play, fighting is more frantic and intense planning and “tricking people” as in GW1 is no longer important. Overall, the game plays more now like a typical action game than the more tactical, paced combat of GW1.
Think of all the problems Warriors had in GW1 when you didn’t have a monk with you. That’s their problem now. Builds center around trying to account for this, but with such a tiny array of skills to choose from, usually everyone runs almost the same exact thing. Individual skills are not balanced, so most you will never use anyway.
Right now Warriors may be the most evenly balanced profession, but that isn’t saying much. They’re all plagued with problems. They’re probably the weakest in PvP in terms of playing an important role in organized play. Overall, it’s not quite the same, despite the profession being pretty similar. Adrenaline skills are gone completely, aside from a single weapon-based burst skill that doesn’t do much of anything. Elites in the game are very high recharge only (and almost always terrible), so you can’t base a build around one. So don’t look to have much diversity to weapons, like you did in GW1. There’s no Decapitate/Eviscerate problems here.
So, I guess they’re very much the same. It’s just the game isn’t as good yet, and may never be due to the intense dumbing down of what made up the core elements of GW1’s combat system, and the repopulation of those areas with number min-maxing.
In organized play Warrior is fine and isn’t exactly hard to amplify. Just that Warrior is simply a class that isn’t meant for low skill players.
In other words, it takes a ton of skill to somewhat counter the warrior’s innate weakness in pvp. But we don’t really have any builds or weapons that reward skill much, all our mechanics are very simple minded.

Nah just people like you who are simple minded and would rather cry than get better can easily dumb down the class in PvP. Warrior isn’t hard.
Go back to PvE.

Feel free to ignore “certain people,” by the way. Every forum has them.
Many of the skills are indeed simplistic, although all the classes are a little more simple-minded than they used to be. I suppose Warrior skills are just about the same, but because there’s not as many of them and the gameplay overall is less complex than in GW1, this can add to the problem.
@Plague
Good call. No point arguing with an uneducated player :\
Warrior is the most versatile class in the game and for me incredibly fun.
Apart from some people who are seemingly unable to find a good synergy in their abilities and weapon combinations, i’m having a blast in pve AND pvp, whether it is sPvP or wvwvw.
Let me give you a few reasons why many warriors whine like little girls regarding their pvp performance
1) They run around with a GS, in full signet builds and feel they should 1 shot everyone. If not, warrior pvp sucks.
2) They don’t bring skills which remove conditions and/or provide immunities to damage and die really quick, therefore warriors are squishy.
3) They focus in Burst instead of mobility, versatility and group support, therefore when their burst misses or doesn’t kill someone, then warrior damage sucks.
I roll as warhorn/sword and rifle bleeding warrior and my survivability over damage is extraordinary. I have won 1v2 countless times and have done some pretty amazing 1v1’s with skilled players where some i lost and some i won. This is so, because every class can be great when the player behind the keyboard is smart and agile.
Having said that, i mained a warrior/monk in gw1 and tbh i prefer gw2 much better. In gw1 warriors were in a sense, pigeonholed to choosing monk as secondary due to their dependence on heals. Our abilities are more fluid and our weapon swaps allow for some very dynamic combinations and unique styles.
So why are you still on the forums? Roll a warrior now!
Edit: Just to be fair, because we are definitely not God Mode in pvp, Mesmers give me the most trouble, not while i’m fighting them but their insane damage and unpredictability during their down time. It takes at least two people to safely stomp one mesmer during their downed state.

I really don’t understand how people can say Warriors suck for PvP. Have you tried playing a ranger (side rant)? Anyways, my point is warriors are a LOT of fun and can really do some damage. I can’t talk for TPvP only SPvP and WvW but in those two arenas I pretty much dominate. Generally, in SPvP, I run the noob build consisting of great sword and axe+shield with bolas, bulls charge, signet of might, and signet of rage. I pretty much immobilize my target, charge in, 100b and depending on the situation either switch to my axe/shield for interrupt or keep swinging away on my target. Generally I can down my target and if I don’t it’s no big deal, I just pressure them until I get back up or block with my shield while I stroll away (haters gonna hate style). The greatsword has great mobility for traversing a map and for running away!
In WvW I run a rifle and Hammer build. Generally I pew pew from a safe distance (I’m pretty low level in PvE) and when the time is right I spring into the frey, wildly swinging my hammer and knocking some fools down. I save bulls charge so that I can run to the safety of my backline (assuming they haven’t folded and ran away).
Ranger is my main in WvW and PvE but I do most of my SPvP on my warrior. Maybe I’m a bit ignorant but I love warrior and think it’s really a matter of knowing when the run away. There’s no dishonor in living, especially if you come back and smash some faces in.

Schwarheitsimply a class that isn’t meant for low skill players.
Indeed! Which is why you should watch this guys pro streams/vids of his top tier tournament play owning everyone on his warrior…..
Oh, wait

Because the only people who are good have videos and streams of their game play. Kind of a ridiculous statement.
Because the people that consistently make “L2P” remarks with insane amounts of ego-driven attitude and insinuate they’re better than other people without evidence to back it up are just as ridiculous.

We don’t have a specific niche of our own.
Our best burst can be avoided if wary and is situational at best, also making us very easy to kill.
Our roaming isn’t very good unless you have sword/warhorn but then you may hamper your build.
Our adrenaline skills are far too lacking, and easy to avoid.
Our endurance isn’t high unless you build yourself as a tank, but then when the enemy team sees that, they’ll just ignore you and leave you for last.
Our problem is not that we’re weak. It’s that other classes can do some things a bit better than us and still give more to the team. This results in the class not being very popular in tPvP.
Warrior is a safe bet to roll, Anet always balances around the war as a benchmark, alot of games do.
Already there are planed nerfs to classes that are outperforming the war by a bit.
I have to laugh at the person saying warriors are the worst class in pvp…. forget the necro comparison….. really a ranger is better then a war right now? Give me a break…
Good in PvE, especially solo PvE. Bad at PvP.
It’s “ok” (not great) in PvP with the infamous wombo combo build, a one trick pony burst faceroll build that relies on several long cooldowns to reliably kill enemies.
Well, there’s also a healing build, but other classes can support better.
Condition build? No. Heavy support? No. CC? Could be, but no, since you’re a melee and very slow with that Hammer. Point defense? No. Ranged? No.
Just Frenzy+BC+100b. So much fun.
The class is also not survivable by any means. Armor and health mean nothing in PvP, it’s all about avoidance, so blinds, blocks, stealth and target cancel are premium methods of defense. Also, the required Frenzy skill is the weakest of all Quickness utilities in the game, as it increases the damage done to you by 50% resulting in pretty hilarious situations of self-ownage.
Bottom line, the Warrior is like a train, which sounds cool before you realize that everybody else is a fighter jet, so not only they’re not obliged to stay on the rails, they also have a much wider effective arsenal of… well, everything, really, from damage to utility and defenses.
Don’t listen to the nay-sayers in this thread. Warriors are very powerful in PvP.
There is more than just a single burst combo. Frenzy+BC+100B is actually pretty bad as you will have a hard time killing anyone but glass cannons with it.
Warriors as roamers are very powerful, and you aren’t restricted to sword/horn. Killing stragglers and other roamers is our forte. With a good build there isn’t a single class we can’t beat 1vs1.
Can we bunker like an engi or guardian? No, but a well built banner warrior can turn that bunker-built engi or guardian into a shiny golden god.
One final tip: don’t build glass cannon and expect to do well.
Warriors are a useful and flexible class in all aspects of the game. The constant whining on this board is completely detached from reality.
The one thing ANet should have another look at are the F-skills. They’re one-dimensional and boring for the most part, having a burst and a defensive option per weapon would be a start.
banner warrior
HAHAH! omg
Wow, thanks for that. Always good to start the morning off with a good laugh.
I especially enjoyed how you finished by saying that warriors are good because they make guardians even better! Yay! That’s what every warrior wants to do, play second fiddle sidekick to the paladins that are already like improved warriors 2.0.

If you really want to be a guardian that badly, roll a guardian. While you’re there: enjoy having 60% of the health and 60% of the damage compared to a non-idiotically built warrior in exchange for more active defenses.
If you don’t see the benefit of banners you need to look again. If you still don’t see it you may want to try a different class. I hear thieves are in vogue right now.
My ele poops all over your banners and doesn’t have to spec for it in order to do that job, I can just give it to people because I feel like it at any given time. Yeah, go banner war! lol

So your ele can give everyone on a point the following stats any time you want?
175 power
175 condition damage
900 health
90 armor
10% boon duration
10% crit damage
25% crit chance
210 health per second
33% increased movement speed
For 95 seconds every 100 seconds with the following having 100% uptime:
900 health
90 armor
10% boon duration
10% crit damage
25% crit chance
210 health per second
I’d love to see that ele build!
