This is primarily about PvP, but mobility is important in PvE too. My main is a dual axe warrior. I love the direct damage of axe gameplay, nice finisher too. But I often feel like I’m severely lacking in mobility.

In PvE and WvW I keep a rifle as my second weapon set because there are so many times when being able to switch to ranged is absolutely necessary. Sacrificing the offhand axe for a warhorn feels like it really hurts my dps with very little return, same with bull rush, we have some much more powerful skills that I just cant make myself sacrifice.

So I was wondering what strategies you guys were using to keep mobile. Is it possible to be a mobile axe warrior? Or do I need to consider switching weapons if I want to close gaps and escape death?

Mobility is precisely why I can’t bring myself to ditch the MH sword. Savage leap is just too useful – both in PVP and PVE (especially when gunning for certain vistas and in jumping puzzles). You could try adding a little bit of speed by using the Warrior’s Sprint trait (Discipline), but that isn’t really much help, to be honest. Another solution would be the Furious Speed trait in the Arms line. 10% chance of 3s swiftness on a crit. Yet another thing you could try would be using a sigil that grants swiftness on a crit/kill. In all of these cases, though, you’d be sacrificing potential DPS. Nevertheless, try them out. Perhaps you’ll find something that suits you.

In sPvP you can try using a 2nd load out with an offhand shield for shield bash which adds a bit of mobility.

Also the root skill and bull rush skill help a bit. But I do agree somewhat that dual axes has less manuverability than MH sword.

Thanks for the tips. I’ll try to find a swiftness sigil first, that sounds promising. I don’t have any points in arms right now, but I’ll look over it again and see if I can make it work. I have tried the “move faster with a melee weapon” trait, and found the speed difference almost undetectable.

That’s actually exactly what I’m using for sPvP. The shield charge is very useful indeed. I can only get away with that in sPvP because I don’t have to worry about having a ranged weapon set available. But I still don’t feel very mobile and spend most of the match jogging around at a leisurely pace.

I use the elite signet when i want to stay mobile, 30+ seconds of swiftness with 50% uptime, means you miss out on other stuff though

Yeah, the elite signet combined with the trait to reduce signet cooldowns means you’d have really good uptime for swiftness from it, without giving up your axe/axe combo.

mm yeah completely forgot to factor traits into it, you can get even more uptime with boon duration increased/signet cd reduction, should
