How much armor is considered "viable"?
I like going full knight armor (toughness/power/precision) for pve.. having a lot of toughness makes it more fun taking on a lot of monsters at once. It’s just nice being able to take a massive beating with huge amounts of toughness.
I don’t bother with +critdamage because I don’t like the burst trait line that much, which is kinda necessary to max in glass cannon builds since it gives +30% crit damage. I don’t think glass cannon is that viable either in pvp or in pve.. you just die way too fast, there is little difference with cloth glass cannons.
I doesn’t matter much in PvP. Even with 2k Toughness you will be dying in seconds to a Thief or to 2+ players of a different profession.
Either go super tanky with healing shouts and regeneration from teammates (that’s still a bad build, but this way it will at least make a difference, at least until you get poisoned/stunned inside Chaos Storm) or go GS glass cannon with 900 Toughness.
No idea about PvE.
Base armor is viable in PvE, even Arah. Might wanna try out knights until you are comfortable with full berserker’s though.
It’s not a game where passive defenses will keep you alive against focus fire. I felt viable when I had full Valkyrie and Beryl gear with only the base 916 toughness. The amount of survivability you find right depends on playstyle.
Between 0-450 toughness is really all you should be aiming for. Warrior’s damage starts to really drop the second you focus on defense while your time to death won’t improve to reflect the damage loss as warriors generally lack ways to multiply their defensive stats through healing and active defense.
There are also a lot of classes who’s burst combos will put you in a losing position whether you have 0 or 600 toughness so its not going to be night and day difference.
