I am wearing almost entirely exotic 80’s Knights gear, dual axe + axe/warhorn, shout heal build.

I have 25k health and over 3200 armor. I know how to play, and in group situations I’m pretty durable.

However, I have been running into Thief players recent that have been absolutely dismantling me. I’m getting hit with Cluster Bomb for upwards of 5k. 1500+1700 by Dancing Daggers, 5k Backstabs.

I’m telling you, there is no other class that I have run into that can do those kinds of numbers. When you look at my combat log, it’s very clearly an outlier, and really just looks bugged/broken.

I’m ending fights dead and they’re often near full health.

So, what’s going on? What can I do?

I should add, it’s extremely difficult to actually do damage to these slippery fools, which seems completely ridiculous to me that they do that much damage while also being able to avoid so much.

On the weekend we meet with one we where 2 warrior and some other class with the same skill we ended up dead all 3 of us , and recently i see in wvwvw they do the same thing like 3 of them jump down from the walls and start to their stuff killin most of the guys in their range , with their knifes making you criple uneable to avoid they are most of the times imune to cc’s and if for any reason you got next to him he just disapears with stealth and starts over , i didn’t find any trick until now how can we could deal with it

You cant, since when they come into stealth then pops out – full hp, even if they were in like 200hp before. Stopm + bull rush with few burst skill cant hadle them. Was fighting with thief for like 15 mins, he cant kill me and i cant kill him because of endless healing. It seems that thiefs a lil bit broken if you know how to use this class.

Now, to beat a thief is very hard, near impossible if he is as good as you, simply because the thief has ways to reset the fight.

In my experience the best ways to beat thieves is having the greatsword/mace+shield set. i don’t think it’s possible with any other set.

1) Don’t blow frenzy+rush right away, save it for the last half of the fight.
2) Save your shield block for the initial haste+basilisk poison burst if he’s a backstab/spammer thief, or save it for the dagger dance if he’s a condition thief. You can tell the difference in how they usually start the fight.
3) If he throws up refuge swing and spin in that circle, he’ll soon come out as you’re getting free hits.
4) Use dodge to get range, use GS 3/4/5 to come back in damaging and close on him. Use GS 3 to get away, then bullsrush and frenzy to get him down low.
5) Once you have a full adrenaline bar and he’s half health or less then this is the time to switch to mace/shield. Mace adrenaline burst, shield slam, mace 3, mace 2 swing swing back to GS, rush/throw etc….

6) My third utility skill is either bola (which is great if it lands) or fear. Fear is great as it buys you time and some free hits.

That’s your best chance. I will target thieves above everyone now, simply because if you can do well against decent thieves, it means you will do very well against most other classes. Really good thieves are ridiculously hard to beat though.

Just don’t be the bulls rush,frenzy HB as soon as you see someone guy. Use it at an appropriate time in the fight when taking 50 percent more damage isn’t a factor.

Come on, don’t troll. Greatsword stands even less of a chance. You’d know that if you actually played a Warrior vs. Thief.

Chances are you are a Thief. If you’re dying to Greatsword Warriors, I suspect you should be in the Thief forum asking them what you’re doing wrong.

Does anyone really fall for the bullsrush/frenzy/Hb combo anymore?

If i’m up against a warrior who is relying on that it’s an automatic win for me.

Thieves counter you pretty hard, simple as that. Best blind class. All you have is physical attacks. What do you expect? They could sit there with a 1 damage dagger and poke you to death if they have any blind set up in their build.

As far as backstab damage goes…those numbers are not even high, due to your toughness of course. ***You won’t ever outlast a thief, you have to outdamage them. If you can’t do that, you already lost.

But of course if the thief screws up you can just two shot them and keep going laughing at how easy it is to kill us if we make mistakes.

Applicable to warriors only. Other classes can do that just fine.

Other option is Hammer/Sword n Shield with Toughness/Vitality build

And just trade with the thief you will not die but you won’t kill him either….

Keep in mind that Thieves where medium armour and have the second lowest health pool in the game only slightly above Elementalists; in other words, they are incredibly squishy. Also, Thieves damage is done in bursts, not consistently like the Warrior, another trade-off that comes with the low survivability in direct combat.

Yep, I still wreck people with it, thieves included (I do have trouble with mesmers though, but thats more due to their obscenely OP downed state)

You need to be smart about it, but it’s still just as strong as ever. Learning to bait dodges, weaving it into the middle of your auto attack chain, leading with it (only if you know they don’t see you), and being able to kite off a failed attempt is more important. Being able to get kills without using bullcharge/frenzy on a GS warrior will also get you far, that way whenever you do have bullcharge/frenzy up its just extra, vs relying on it.

Traited Vengeance is also something I’ve been getting alot of use out of, and pretty much guarantees a win against every class sans mesmer, because as a burst dmg GS warrior by the time they down me, they’re also very low health, even if HB doesn’t connect, and most players will not expect the 2nd Hundred blades when theyre standing right next to me trying to finish me off followed by whirling attack. This only doesn’t work if they immediately start finishing me off right as I’m originally downed, since it means I can’t enter vengeance state due to the cd even with perfect timing on the KD, or if there are 2 players trying to finish me off, or if it’s a mesmer since I can’t get up from downed, kill them, and finish them off, before vengeance wears off 90% of the time. Otherwise traited Vengeance greatly increases win ratio when hundred blades fails, for whatever reason.
