So I was just thinking and I thought of this idea, I love shield stance as it is, but thought of this added effect that would add more group utility to the warrior. I am not a programmer so I had no idea if this would even be possible.
What if when a warrior activated shield stance it either A) created a zone behind the warrior like 180 degrees that received no damage, from AOE’s or any other type of attack, kind of like a protected cone behind the warrior or B ) when a warrior activated shield stance all Aoe in a small area is drawn to the warrior. This would give Warriors a really combat veteran (like warriors should be, in the front lines killing and hacking away) role. The way I see it is that say your buddy gets downed, and somebody starts rezzing him, the warrior can stand in from of the downed player, with shield stance up absorbing damage that would hurt the 2 behind him.
I feel this would also bring more situational awareness to the warrior class. While you are hacking away killing players/mobs it rewards you for noticing a friendly life dropping, you can stand in front of them and absorb some damage for them.
Shield stance has a decent cool down with it, so it’s not like the ability would be OP, (same as it is now) just an area behind the warrior takes no damage for the duration of the stance.
I’m drawn to the warrior because it is a Combat Veteran grunt, in your face killing where others wouldn’t go, rallying teammates, and leading attack, type of playstyle. I feel this would be a great add on to group utility without a huge change, and would supplement the Combat Veteran playstyle, with situational awareness and combat awareness.

Anyone support this idea or thinks it terribad? Just looking for some input.
The reflect and immunity are too powerful for tpvp to be nerfed to the ground for something like this.
Some chain ability addition, or a longer duration, directional immunity would be more helpful, in line with what the devs seem to want for the shield, without giving warriors enough to make all the mesmers reroll.
Still waiting for the shield to be useful for pve as more than Giganticus crutch.
I wish the duration was +1 second longer and/or the cd was ~5 seconds shorter.
Otherwise its a pretty solid skill. It is the main reason you pack a shield for sPvP (and is the 1 REQUIRED weapon for basically any warrior sPvP build)

Back on topic now. . . I support the idea but the amount of whining would only increase if it was ingame, even if it is a great idea v_v
One problem i see if it was introduced is how would it work is things hit from the side, behind, or even above? Would be awesome it it worked for whatever is infront of you but that must be a pain in the kitten to code
I really like the idea of a cone of protection for players behind the shield warrior. This is already something I sort of do in WvW. When I see a player go down, if someone is already rezzing them I throw up my Shield Stance to try and block any direct incoming fire for the two of them by standing between the enemies and my allies.

The way I see it is if attacks come from behind or the side it wouldn’t protect them, kind of make the warrior have some awareness about positioning, warrior shield stance would stay the same, the warrior still wouldnt take damage, they just wouldnt protect the allies from the side attacks or back. Yeah as I’m saying this now, I could imagine it probably being difficult to code, possibly way to difficult, but it would be a cool feature IMO to add more group utility to the warrior.

Exactly some people already do this instinctively, so I figured reward the players for team work and assisting team mates. How is it working for you now?
or just give warriors a modernized “Shields Up!” that blocks projectiles.
