I’m looking for some info about the Warrior class. Bit of backstory here: I’ve been playing since launch, and I have a maxed out Thief (Main), and Guardian. I like high damage melee classes, but I was thinking of making another. My first class was Guardian, but I sort of got burned out doing a lot of AC runs way back in the first months of the game, so I decided to make a Thief, and got hooked on the high damage and mobility of the class. Also found it more challenging that Guardian, since I leveled in tank-ish gear like a kitten. Missing one dodge on my Thief meant death, and that part always kept me enjoying each moment of combat. I go back and play my Guardian a few times, but I just find him slow. The damage is good when geared to maxed out DPS, but it wasn’t what I expected when I made the class on launch. I’ve never been one to level alts, and most of the ones I do level, is because I find the class really strong and fun. And the completionist in me likes to 100% everything. That being said, I don’t like finding midway that the class is boring and I wasted time on it.

I’m ready to take a little break from my Thief, and see all the changes to leveling that have being implemented, and Warrior seems fun. I like that I have access to a lot of weapons, some I haven’t used before. I have a few questions though:

1. How is the mobility of a Warrior (DPS) while in combat? I know Thieves are insane in this department, and that’s one of the things I love about the class, but how would you compare Warrior? I’m talking about dodges, movement WHILE in combat and outside.

2. Guardians bring a lot to dungeons and fractals. I haven’t done many dungeons since I have avoided them on purpose so that I have something to do when I want to try something new. I usually bring my Guard to the ones I do, sometimes my Thief if I see that the group is good in boons and can do without my Guardian. What are some of the things that a Warrior can bring to Dungeons and Fractals, if I decide to do some on him?

3. How is Warrior in solo PvE? This is what I do most of the time. Farming, doing Temples in Arah if one is up, World Bosses and exploration.

4. How is Warrior in sPvP and WvW? I’ve done my fair share of both on my Thief and Guardian, and always have always enjoyed fighting against good Warriors.

5. This is more of a silly question, but I’m sure a lot of people have this problem, and I want to see how Warriors deal with this. I don’t really zerg, but when I do, it’s he occasional Champ if I’m farming near him in Arah, or fighting against a Temple Boss. One thing that I don’t like is trying to melee as a Thief, when huge zerg of people are on the boss (if the boss is not a giant or something big like that), and a bunch of particle effects are on the boss. I can’t see what he is doing, what way he is facing, and can’t timed my dodges properly. Even on the lowest setting. Now, for a full zerker Thief, that deals more damage when I’m behind the boss, trying to actually see what way he is looking is a big part. My low health means that 1 miss dodge and I’m downed. So I end up dpsing the boss with my Shortbow, when I could be doing insane damage to him. I don’t really have this problem on my Guardian, since my dmg is not position based. So the question would be: How do you all deal with this in a big battle? Long and weird question I know, but I’ve notices I’m not the only one having this issue.

I guess that all I have to ask for the moment. Any input is welcomed. Thanks in advance.

Thief DPS isn’t that much higher than a warrior’s, it’s like about 10% more if you’re running meta on both and thief doesn’t have good AOE.

As for zergs, what’s stopping you from putting on a full set of Cleric’s gear and AFKing at max range with a bow/rifle? That’s what I do in Crown Pavilion, I honestly don’t give a kitten if other bads get mad at me for playing as badly as they do. They can do the work for once and let me leech the rewards, I do the opposite in dungeons. As long as you can maintain that mindset (“the zerg/party/guild exists for my benefit”) you’ll do fine on any class.

1. How is the mobility of a Warrior (DPS) while in combat? … dodges, movement WHILE in combat and outside.
warrior can have more dodges, if
- they carry a signet of stamina (1 utility slot) for +50% endurance regen
- warhorn as offhand support weapon

not sure if the vigor from warhorn stacks with the signet of stamina though.
from the wiki it seems like they do not stack.

as for movement, warrior can close gaps or widen them very easily, only if certain weapons are equipped.

long sword 2 – 600 targeted / forward leap
greatsword 3 – 450 choose a direction and whirl
greatsword 5- 1200 targeted / forward rush
shield 4 – 450 targeted / forward bash
hammer f1 – 600 targeted aoe leap

warriors can use these weapons to get closer to their targets or away from them.

2. What are some of the things that a Warrior can bring to Dungeons and Fractals
might stacking via long bow f1 and various blast finishers.
convert conditions into boons via warhorn (master trait)
various banners for stats boost (grandmaster trait to give regen boon)
healing shouts (grandmaster trait)

3. How is Warrior in solo PvE? This is what I do most of the time. Farming, doing Temples in Arah if one is up, World Bosses and exploration.
warriors are fine in solo PvE and can explore around without much trouble.

4. How is Warrior in sPvP and WvW?
warriors are very good in both sPvP and WvW.

5. …. zerg ….
not sure what you meant. do you mean you want to facetank melee world bosses in a zerg?

Hello,

First, welcome on the warrior forum. I hope you’ll find your stay here enjoyable.

1. How is the mobility of a Warrior (DPS) while in combat? I know Thieves are insane in this department, and that’s one of the things I love about the class, but how would you compare Warrior? I’m talking about dodges, movement WHILE in combat and outside.

The mobility is more than correct, but IMHO not as good as for the thief. Basically:

  • The warrior has a trait that allows him to have 25% speed increase when wielding melee weapons (no need to use a signet or dedicated runes), which is better than most classes,
  • It is quite easy to get access to perma swiftness (33% speed increase) during a fight, using either a skill (the Signet of Rage, which most warriors equip) some traits (like “Furious Speed”) or weapons (the Warhorn),
  • The warrior can also get improved endurance regeneration thanks to the Signet of Stamina or certain traits (Building Momentum), and can reasonably obtain vigor, either traiting his stances (a Stance is a type of skill) or using his Warhorn. This however implies a certain build commitment (more than for swiftness),
  • Many weapons allows him to move fast without a target (sword and greatsword), and many skills come with a break-stun,
  • The warrior has some traits that can remove mobility conditions when using utility or weapon skills (“Mobile Strikes”, “Restorative Strength”), and his Warhorn as well helps in that,
  • The warrior has no teleport at all and cannot stealth (except by blasting in a smoke area), so is always visible to the opponent and cannot really confuse him by its moves.

What are some of the things that a Warrior can bring to Dungeons and Fractals, if I decide to do some on him?

A warrior does very well in dungeons, be it in group or solo:

  • Great DPS with reasonable tankiness (high base stats),
  • Ability to give and maintain might for party members,
  • Ability to cleanse conditions for the group, although not as well as some other classes,
  • Ability to provide speed and vigor for the group.

3. How is Warrior in solo PvE? This is what I do most of the time. Farming, doing Temples in Arah if one is up, World Bosses and exploration.

In solo PVE, the warrior should have no problem at all. It’s a sturdy class, very forgiving (you can take a hit or two), with good mobility if you use the right weapons. Most of its weapons cleave, so you’ll tag a decent amount of mobs, but not as much as other classes (few AoE available, no bouncing attacks – you’ll miss your staff guardian here).

4. How is Warrior in sPvP and WvW? I’ve done my fair share of both on my Thief and Guardian, and always have always enjoyed fighting against good Warriors.

It’s pretty good, with the Hambow (a build using a hammer and a bow) being one of the top competitive builds (along Spirit Ranger, S/D thieves, Meditation guardians). Also, there are many viable builds other than Hambow as well, so quite the diversity in your choice of game play.

All classes have the same problem, this is an issue brought by the unreasonable visual effects of GW2. You can probably hug the boss and retreat if you take a hit (usually you’ll survive a hit), but the safest would be to range him with the longbow or the rifle. World boss are zerged most of the time, so don’t expect any kind of fun fighting them.

HTH.

  1. Warrior is one of the best classes when it comes to Swiftness. Warriors have very few skills that root you in place and most weapons have cleave on most of their skills, so warriors aren’t known for standing still. Unlike Thieves though, Warriors don’t have a very notable access to Vigor and evades.
  2. Warriors are most known for their decent DPS, their banners and might stacking (For Great Justice, Blast finishers, Phalanx Strength).
  3. Warriors are fairly good at solo PvE, what with their decent DPS and naturally high defenses.
  4. Warriors are fairly popular and good in both sPvP and WvW. With WvW, it comes down a bit more to what you’re doing, as warriors aren’t exactly the most popular roaming profession.
  5. Warriors don’t have any skills that are strictly position based. There are a few skills that will root you in place during their channel, but that is only a problem if your enemy has a tendency to move around.

1. As others have said, Sword+Greatsword and the Signet of Stamina give warriors pretty awesome mobility, though it lacks the confusing mobility of rogues, or breakdancing of rangers.

2. I think everyone else answered this better.

3. Excellent. Good mobility for getting around the map (Sword 2 is beautiful for getting you where you want to go, once you learn the range! And the trait is useful as well, and in a pretty valuable tree), so there’s little downtime between events or waiting to get to where you want to be or see something new. They also have good durability and strong damage. Since I can’t afford high-end gear, I tend to run Carrion for Sword during solo PvE because of the nice blend of direct damage, bleed DoT, and Survivability making it possible to solo tough enemies, and quickly dispatch groups (Condition damage is worthless in dungeons, but great when you don’t have anyone else competing with you for condi stacks). You’re also self-sufficient at self-buffs and recovery. Even when downed, you can use Vengeance to get back into the fray immediately – if you can down enough enemies once back on your feet, you continue as though nothing happened. If not – well, it’s still a good eleventh-hour moment of glory when you would have been defeated anyway (And, you’re Invulnerable when getting back on your feet). Utilities like Endure Pain, Doylak Signet/Balanced Stance, and Berzerker’s stance give you moments of Limited Invincibility as well.

4. From what I hear, excellent, but I don’t do much WvW or PvP.

5. Zerging as a warrior is extremely easy – facerolling would be too much effort. Either by standing back with a rifle and occasionally popping Vulnerability if that pops low, and keeping volley, and Killshot on cooldown for almost-decent ranged damage, to just charging in with a greatsword and popping Balanced Stance or Doylak Signet to let you 100 Blades it (You might want to hit it with an AA first to see if numbers pop up) unhindered – if you get hit, you can facetank it, and if there’s an indication an attack is coming, you can Endure Pain through it. If it’s a Condition-applying boss/event, just hit your burst whenever you get too many conditions popping up under your boons and passive buffs and let Cleansing Ire do the work for you (Or Signet of Stamina. Or, if you know it’s a condi-applying boss before you wander into it, you can Berzerker Stance it).

I only have 1 lvl 80 char wich is a warrior and i don’t see the point of making other classes since warrior has it all, i hope that settles it
