Hello guys. Warrior is a class I know nothing about. And to be honest I always thought it could be a boring class to level to 80.

Looking akitten I may have been wrong but I am still unsure. I am looking for the pro’s and con’s to this class.

I want to build something different and something that would be fun to play.

I like to be able to give a lot of damage and take a lot. I am also torn between a Thief build.

Any advice would be great.

Warrior is enjoyable and use to be the easy learning curve class. It still is until you hit WvW/SPvP where it becomes a little more difficult.

Thief, for me, was difficult leveling since I was a burst playstyle. I’d recommend condition damage now. Died a few times as burst...story line was rough.

In WvW:

Thief is a great roamer but offers very little for group/raid/zerg gameplay. They have great damage and are typically turned into stealth machines for hiding mesmers and rezzing. Venomshare is great when you stack up for might stacks. Not bad at staying around the edge of battle and downing low health players. Current meta is dagger + pistol or sword + dagger and maybe throw shortbow in the mix.

Warrior has it’s uses but is currently needing some attention since the quickness global nerf. They are suppose to be king of burst but are not. They lack sustain right now due to little ways to mitigate damage. There are a lot of successful warriors out there. A few I follow are Boulderbog and TehSanny on youtube who are in the guild RIOT on Blackgate. Also, http://www.youtube.com/feed/UC8ZmqnTXsfelr8zWpHJexVQ plays a roaming warrior very well.

That is one build I run when roaming/small groups in WvW.

It depends on what you find boring.

Although warriors have the simplest combat mechanic it is pretty difficult to play right in PvP and WvW which to me is a good challenge and fun. I like facerolling PvE cause PvE=farming for money but when it comes to fighting other players I prefer either an average or subpar class cause of the feeling I get killing others with it. You have no room for mistakes in PvP compare to others and to me that adds to the fun. yes we need help but at the moment Warrior fits everything I enjoy in the game. I also like to see big numbers and being able to take a good hit without falling. We could use some more sustain though.

Warrior doesn’t have the flashiness of say a guardian or a mesmer but when it comes to variety in PvE they can be one of the more interesting classes. Although, you’ll probably always have a Greatsword for mobility and quickly killing mobs but that second weapon slot can be changed at will for variety. It’s also one of the quicker classes to level and most groups for dungeons always like to have a warrior around.

Absolutely fun to play, especially in wvw. so many diff. weapon styles to choose from, and playstayles that evolve off of that

I’m biased as my Warrior’s my main, but I don’t find it boring. A little frustrating as the builds are currently very limited with poor synergy, but definitely not boring.

Also, a lot of people say it’s the easiest class, but I’d argue that’s Guardian.
Guardians rarely have to worry about anything at all in open world PvE.

pve – faceroll, boring to level up in pve, but thats just me cause i hate leveling

spvp – no comment

wvwvw – it starts getting fun because while everyone is all magical fairy pew pew stealthing raining butterflies on you, your the guy thats just standing there with a simple sword and board, if you dont call that a challenge, i guess your looking for a different kind of fun than me

I mainly play PVE I have a guardian and a Necro, both great, but the Guardian is just to slow. My necro I love to bits so I am looking to have a change from a necro.

What you mean its the easiest to level in pve

every warrior is forced into either shouts or banners (30 stamina.) forced into certain runes of the soldier to clear CC, and its not even that good CC clearing either, its almost 3x worse then other classes even if you spend all that into it.

And you remove almost half your damage doing that.

Warriors are also not tanky, we waste to many points because our trees have stats all over the place, whereas Guardian can just get the toughness tree and be set-for-life, same with thief in there shadow arts tree, and elementalist in there attunement tree.

Warriors have some of the worst endurance regeneration, necromancers are right before them. Health is meaningless because we waste a lot of stats. What is the point in having more vitality when we waste it trying to get traits?

Warriors can have high damage builds, but they are NOT-MOBILE, our highest damaging attacks force us to stand still, anyone with a pea sized brain can avoid them, even AI-less-mobs do it! Guardians out-class us on mobile damage, everything they have is instant-fast-easily executed.

Warriors pretty much have to waste points in the brawn tree when brawn does absolutely nothing and most don’t even use there burst abilities. We have the worst class mechanic in the game because it hurts you more to use your burst then save it.

Warriors have by-far the worst traits and the weakest grand master traits in the entire game. Also the worst healing abilities as well.

I guess the top-pvpers are all just trolls.

Here’s my answer to that NO. Earn come cash farm cof 1 or something get 40g or so and level a warrior to 80 in a day through crafting. No reason to get bored if you do that. Play it and if you dislike it at least you’ll have a farming toon for pve so you can cash up and level another toon you do enjoy.

I like my warrior. I play it almost exclusively in WvW and its my primary in PvE. As simple as the mechanics are it is literally the most challenging class because you get none of it for free. No extra HP bar, no free block every 40 seconds, no invul built into the class, no insane healing, no stealth, no clones, no ridiculous number of tools, and no pets.

We are the plain white rice among all the gourmet food. But like rice throughout MMO history despite the fads we are there feeding the community. This class is classical in its simplicity and honestly that’s the beauty of it. It so simple that I am still learning things about it.

Warrior is NOT boring.
Warrior is lacking is some areas yes, we need some changes, yes. But the class itself is loads of fun, this class is more about knowing your animations and what your enemy does and when to attack than having lots of stuff to manage for yourself. Also make sure to pick the trait that gives you lower cooldown on weapon swap as that ability will keep you always busy as you swich between weapons all the time to utilize all abilities.

Its all about watching your enemy and attacking when it is a good moment to do so
I would say Warrior is a lot more fun in pvp(spvp/wvw) than it is in pve, altho pve will be fun too if you like big numbers : P
But me nor anyone else can not know wether this is what you want from a class, so try it out, see if you like it.

No you need to go out and have a bit of fun, just because a class may be OP or UP does not affect a classes fun factor.

First 80, had it for several months and i’ve discovered all its strengths and weaknesses. It has not had a significant change since then.

That trait means NOTHING to the sigil, in-fact it just makes it “off” and harder to use because you could use it a second before its Internal cool-down.

Do you even know what sigils do?

Here’s the thing I have 5 80s and had a 78 engineer I deleted to make space. Of the 5 warrior is the one I play the most the last few months though I have many more hours on ele and almost equal on thief. The thing is there is no way to know if you’ll like the class till you play it. The reason most people get angry over warrior is spvp and the class not having a spot in tpvp. I will put this in perspective. Tpvp is the smallest community in the game but has the most power in balance patches. Its is also the main reason for QQ here.

In WvW and PvE warrior is fine. My suggestion take one into Spvp. It’s the worst it is ever going to be for warrior. If you still like it then likely you’ll find it fine everywhere else.

The other thing I have learned is that if you can skip early levels then do it. Without the traits and skills you need for a build the leveling process is beyond boring.

You do realize that this sigill only triggers when you swap to the weapon that holds it? Therefore you have to wait 2×5=10 seconds.

lol don’t listen to Daecollo. He dislikes the warrior class because it does not fit his playstyle. Browse the forums or his prior history log. He has a pretty poor track record granted a few good posts.

This class is solely based on your playstyle. Do you like burst classes? Do you like condition(or DoTs) classes? Do you like to feel great satisfaction when you defeat one or even more players at a time?

I play burst, high risk / high reward, and pulling off clutch combos and plays is my kinda of game. Warrior is not suited for condition builds yet and yes I have defeated 1v3 before and it’s quite satisfying. I won’t even claim to be a superior player but the warrior does have the tools to get the job done. Skill will play a big factor in this class so prepare to make your way from the ground up.

Simple answer to your question is that it completely depends on what you like. I’ve played mesmer, elementalist (was my first main), guardian, ranger and in the end i keep coming back to my warrior. Because i simply like playing warrior the most somehow. Before i’ve never been much of a heavy armor type of person in an mmo, and played the magic classes. Still fun to play but my preference goes to warrior in PvE and WvW.

If you think warrior is exciting or boring also depends on how you play it, and what you do with it. Great thing about a warrior is that it has a lot of viable builds. GS can be fun on a warrior, but dont just take it because you think it’s the only viable weapon out there.

Overall warriors aren’t boring to play until you get bored of playing one. It also depends on your build too.

Reading your description you want to pull towards power, critical damage and defense. I’m not sure what type of weapon set you want, but for a starter you can start off with dual axes, Greatsword, long bow, dual wield sword or off hand mace.

For Pve you want to be a AoE godlike warrior which is great for leveling and you’ll take out mobs quicker.

Pros for warriors:

• There really isn’t much to say because you can practically do anything and stay alive in Pve.

• In down state we get a move called Vengeance which is a great teamwork / Second wind skill to help out others who are also in downstate who cannot get a second chance to get up and also defeating our opponents before Vengeance timer is up.

Cons for warriors:

• We lack defensive boons, and rely on condition removal cool downs. Condition builds won’t be useful in dungeons unless you’re the only one whose in that group that is condition.

• Pvp is not a place for warriors because they’re truly the underdogs there at the moment. So expect a challenge and always expect defeat unless you’re facing a bad player or another warrior. Then the statistics changes to a 50 / 50 fight.

To precede all of this: I have played a Warrior since beta and launch. I’m always a Warrior though. I was in GW1 and almost every other MMO. With that noted, I love my Warrior for PvE. I will get into PvP later.

The Warrior is supposed to be able to overcome all challenges with just his weapon and his armor. They have the highest amount of HP in the game and since they wear heavy armor the Warrior and Guardian have the most armor. I use this to my advantage by using Power, Vitality, and Toughness armor (PVT). I always use it since it allows for me to be the most versatile and reactive for the group.

My track record with dungeons goes as follows: For mobs, I am always the last one to go down no matter what. For bosses, I’m usually tanking the boss, whether it is with my GS, Sword & Board, Mace & Shield, Hammer, Axe & Shield. I usually use a Longbow as a back up for the 2 handed weapons, but not always.

As for leveling, I knew that I always used Power, Percision, and Toughness. It gave me enough armor to mitigate most damage. This allowed me to pull a large group of mobs and take them all down at once. It made leveling a bit more challenging and intense which kept it fun. Taking on 7 mobs at a time instead of 2 or 3 and coming close to death is much more fun. Another benefit for the Warrior in general and for leveling is that they have the most weapon customization and builds to create. It always kept it fresh and fun. Being able to start over with something totally new and change your play-style was what kept me interested.

sPvP and WvW are a whole different animal and you can read more about those on previous posts made about them.

I won’t tell you what builds I run because you get to experiment with that yourself and to me that was the mokittenn.

Well tonight I jumped into it. Manned up and made my warrior and it was a pleasant surprise. I did not like the sword at the start felt very boring but once I got a great sword and then double axe I was like wow this is cool. So far so good. I think I may enjoy it

Such a subjective question… but:

PvE: Direct DPS Warriors are fun because you do tons of damage and everyone wants you to come play. Control warriors lose out on their goodies when you fight mobs with Defiance, which are also the mobs you would want to interrupt so that’s a bummer. Support warriors are good too with their shouts or banners.

I roam so this isn’t from a zerg/team fight perspective: Once you start fighting players, the fun level changes. Good D/D eles, condi thieves, mesmers, nature rangers, extremely skilled necros, and bunker guards don’t have much trouble outlasting a warrior. A fight against a good player with lots of mobility, self heals, or mitigation can be an exercise in self-control and ultimately end up leaving a disgustingly bitter taste in your mouth. We just can’t match the sustain of some of the other classes, and when a good opponent is able to work well with their sustain mechanics AND build for more damage, they become pretty terrifying.

I’ve logged over 1600 hours on my warrior, mostly in WvW and I always come back to him. The one thing a warrior can build for better than any other class is insane dps coupled with stability and, although limited, fantastic burst mitigation. This combo will help you succeed against glass cannons and and middle of the road builds as well as exploit mistakes made by opposing players. However, you could struggle against anyone who effectively uses their sustain mechanics and multiple opponents. Bottom line, a good warrior player will make a better X,Y, or Z… if your playstyle fits well into any other class and your definition of fun = winning, I would suggest going a route that doesn’t start with “W” and end with “arrior”

I didn’t follow the usual way of the Warrior and I went instead for a full Rampager Build Rifle / Sword&Shield build. Took a couple of unused skills and traits like Distracting Strike and Kick. I ended up with something different, maybe not as damaging as Greatsword or Axe builds but instead, a good build capable to hold its ground with high damaging level of attacks and enough tools to turn the tide of a battle. And this is something I like about the Warrior, you can basicaly build something different and make it work.

While yes, it is the profession with the easiest learning curve, the gameplay of the Warrior is limited to “Do or Die”, kill or be killed. This makes you very reliable to the tools at your disposal and also force you to use your brains, and not mindless spam your abilities, if you don’t want to be splatter in less than a second. Very skilled Warriors will use their skills at the right time to disrupt ennemies actions or dealing tremendeous amounts of damage whenever they get an opening.

Warriors can also afford a good offensive level of support in a team, and you are always better to run with a Guardian budy, but the current PVP situation makes this profession a favoured target by any people with a bit of inteligence and team coordination. Because they know, whatever you do, it is just a matter of time before you are downed. So if you like PVP, prepare yourself to get focused a lot, and I mean a LOT!

If this guy is torn between a warrior or thief and wants to know if the warrior is boring then the answer would be yes it is boring and picking up the thief would be a no brainer.

Warrior is lil more than a low level pve mob in this game in all game modes. It’s highly telegraphed abilities are easy to dodge in pvp and the pve gameplay is a mindless 2 spam with greatsword in dungeons. A lot more thought and positioning goes into other classes that yield a far greater reward when played decently.

i find the warrior pretty boring, one I have is still mid 40s, Started it before my ranger and engineer(that’s before the last few class updates), and both of them are lvl 80 now with a few ascended pieces. whole play style is pretty mind numbing imo.

Warriors are boring if you can’t find a build that you enjoy.

I am having major fun with my warhorn/longbow build, and I stopped playing any
other professions since I discovered it. I focus on supporting my friends, and I’m very
good at it. But I can still pack a serious punch if I have to fight others on my own, as
mainhand axe with +45% crit damage, plus very high toughness, I can lay down a lot
of hurt while being quite tough to kill.

I also look kitten cool since recently with my Rox’s Quiver back item.

It’s fun to have permanent swiftness, vigour, fury and might, with a ton of area wide
condition removal, two of which are converted into buffs.

There isnt alot to the warrior besides weapon skills. which every class in the game has already. I have a gaurdian because I wanted something with spells that could take a few hits. However the class has so many different things you can do with it. the warrior has basically none. you wait for cooldowns and purge adrenaline. you can swap weapons but so can every other class in the game except elementalist. Its no wonder people who have warriors roll a gaurdian, they have way way more toys. heck even the engineer is more interesting and they have basically 2 weapons. pistol and rifle.
