Is hammer/s+wh still viable in wvw?
I haven’t personally run that build myself. However, looking at it, I’d say it looks like it’s a decent hybrid between the berserker warriors people are normally running now, and the old fashioned support build that was run pre-rev.
In a fully comped group, you might be better discarding the support and going full scale DPS, (GS, or offhand axe is popular) but in less organized groups I think this build would be pretty solid. Again, I haven’t actually run it, but I don’t see any reason why it shouldn’t work fairly well.
dont use a warhorn. it gives you a blast finisher…..but if you think that’s worth 2 weapon spots then you need to go play a different class.
And the only thing I can see making hammer work in a zerg fight is a tank warrior running nomad or something, that spams sigil of absorption or whatever the steal life on interrupt sigil is that has no cd. Meanwhile the tank ele who grants giant cc spam on everything it gets near is just strolling through the enemy zerg like a boat on the water, is asking…..“what is that idiot with the hammer doing here?”

Indeed, the good ol hammer warrior is long dead and so does support warrior. Even warbanner might not be worth it since everyone gets revived in 2 seconds. Just go full damage.
Hmm, that’s sad. I wonder if they ever bring sup warrior back. I mostly thought about it to cleanse conditions and provide some utility, as condi bomb seems to be a problem sometimes.

Make hammer f2 ignore stab and I’ll use it
As someone who is forced to play hammer/sword+wh with full soldiers in everyone’s, it’s absolutely trash and doesn’t contribute meaningfully whatsoever to fights. The damage is absolute garbage, mobility is trash, and even with full soldiers it’s very easy to get condi bursted down.
Full Mara’s with GS/Mace+shield is infinitely more impactful in fights and having GS3 as an extra evade is massive for survival.
Any commander that encourages hammer/sword+wh is stuck in a meta that’s been long dead and can’t keep up.

i honestly still DO run the good ol’ sword/warhorn and hammer build when im in a zerg
i find it fun and even with full zerk i can always survive with good positioning etc.

under tactics, u will see that i have phalanx strength traited. If you are facing a condition heavy group then you could swap out PS for vigorous shouts.

Unfortunately hammer is not realy good. While i use S/WH for roaming mobility GS is is just better then hammer. The hammer CC is unreliable and slow. GS3 evade + damge and the damage from arch divider are superior.
I must admit in the end I tried both builds in wvw (sword/warhorn+hammer and gs+hammer) and what can I say is (keep in mind this is my personal opinion):
1. sword/warhorn+hammer is simply horrible for wvw situations. Warrior sucks badly as a support and you lose a lot of damage potential, not to mention your group utility skills are crap when you compare yourself to other support professions.
2. gs+hammer is my new personal favorite build for wvw. High damage, tons of cc, slows, weakness, I think this build benefits a group much more than the s/wh variant since apart from tons of cc you also deal tons of damage with gs.
In my opinion greatsword + hammer is really, really great for wvw, maybe even perfect, especially when 2-3 people in your group run with it. You land 1 rupturing smash, switch to gs launch thousands blades, whirlwind and arc divider and the damage is ridiculous.

I tend to strongly disagree with that statement. Maybe it is matter of build, item stats or consumables, I always buff myself with 10% dmg reduction food. As for items I mixed mara with berserker and 2 accesories with some extra toughness, I think knight’s but don’t remember.
As for being slow, well it is, it’s a two handed hammer Keep in mind it compensates for the speed with its damage output and when you are in berserker stance hammer hits like a truck with the speed of warp 10.
If someone would be wondering whether to choose s/wh+hammer or gs+hammer, from my personal experience I strongly recommend the second option and your group will surely appreciate it.
OK you migth be right that its good for a group. I focus on solo/duo roaming and i want to be fast for that. If going with a group i im on ele in zerg (which i usually avoid) staff ele ….
gs/h used to be great for roaming, and running a team of two was like Super Smash Brothers. It was my go-to build for a year or two.
What’s really killed its value (for roaming, at least) is the proliferation of stun breaks and stability that came with HoT, as well as, paradoxically, in increase in the amount of ranged cc that somewhat overshadows what the warrior hammer brings to the table.
I also found the increased amount of ranged pressure generally forced me to swap to a shield. A high damage ranged opponent will just ruin a h/gs if it has any kiting potential.
In a group though, I suppose those deficiencies can be overcome, whether because your opponents stun breaks get exhausted, you’re less likely to be focused, or because your team is shoring up your defenses.
