I can’t hit jack squat when attacking an enemy on the ledge of a wall or when in the reverse position “Obstructed”,“Obstructed”,“Obstructed”,“Obstructed”,“Obstructed”. ARGHHHHHH unless I climb on top of the ledge I can’t hit anything. I can’t even hit the oil rig when I’m right in front of it.
It’s not that I hate using bows but rifles feel so useless when trying to take down enemies on walls.

I’d use a longbow when fighting in towers/forts anyway – it’s about the only time I’d suggest using a longbow.

Rifle has better potential in an open field battle with the stronger abilities. Longbow is better in sieges for the AoE suppresion. People in WvW back up when you start dropping AoEs. Either to suppress the walls(attack) or keep them off the door(defend). Besides that the AoE damage still isn’t that amazing.

Besides that longbow has really crappy abilities. It’s only useful for the AoE burst skill. Rifle is way better otherwise.

Rifle is actually okay in WvW. Better than as if you used it on sPvP.

I actually use the rifle in WvW to decent effect. I usually hop up on the little ledge around a castle wall, pick a semi-hurt target, and then volley into that target and/or do a kill-shot. I’ve killed a surprising number of people that way.

I’ve tried the longbow, and I do carry one around with me, but I really don’t like the longbow at all. I see its merits, but most of the time I don’t want people blinded, immobilized, or on fire — I want them laying on the ground dead, dying, or otherwise not standing up doing damage to the gate or my allies.

I do have to admit that using the vurst skill followed by #2 is pretty entertaining though on the Longbow.

Anyway, the rifle isn’t great, but is acceptable.

EDIT: To be clear, I’m talking about defense. For -offense- (ie: shooting up at a wall), it is completely useless and you’ll be obstructed every time. Thats when I bring out the Longbow.

Bleed, crip, vulnerability and a KB. Please tell me which other weapon set has that much utility along with skills like Volley and Kill Shot. Put a sup blood on the rifle with your percision up and a whatever/warhorn in your other set and you are good to go. Sure, obstruction is an issue but you just have to figure out the angles after a bit.

Rifle’s better than Guardian scepter, lol.

Plus Kill Shot is super easy to land in WvW since it’s hard to pick the animation out of a crowd. Free ganks all day.

Was Kill Shot changed recently? I’m doing about 60% of the damage that I was doing with it last week.

I have a buddy war that we roam with uses longbow + rifle its amazing. Longbow number 5 is outstanding in combo with killshot. Nothing gets away with him in the group.

However killshot is so kitten easy to see coming, it could be the training animation teaching new players what to dodge.

Only issue with rifle is like someone said, you have to get on the outter ledge to get shots off, risking getting pulled off. Not a problem with the right skills, but get it in the wrong position and you have to hope the enemy team didnt notice. Piercing rounds is a must with rifles as its single target, and against the bow you arent really doing a lot for your team taking down one person. Sure, you can pick on one guy on the ram for example, he backs off, gets replaced. On the bow though, you see someone casting aoe in to a group, pop your burst aoe in to that group, then arcing arrow, watch health of that group go bye bye, at least make them back off.

A little tip for defense with bow. Change traits around. Myself I am 20 str/25 arms/25 def/. First thing I change is gain adrenaline when hit from my 200 toughness when snared, then I take off the 5% of power as vit and add death from above.

So now, I jump on to the ram, knock away attackers, irritate them, this builds adrenaline fast, I pop my aoe, repeat. Dont however, jump on heads too far from the portal, and be sure you arent heavily targetted before going in. Especially effective defending near a cliff.

You can also just stay up top building adrenaline, which is fast if you counter in all the hits you take defending.

if you think rifle sucks , go play a ranger and use a shortbow….. you will find out real quick how much better the rifle is for warriors than many other classes ranged weapons. the utility is amazing and the burst is top 5 for ranged weapon skill sets easy.

For tower offense/defense bow is better. For general wvw fighting, be it large zerg vs zerg or small skirmishes, riffle is better.

One mini combo i love to do with riffle in a large crowd is find a target > Bull charge > fear me (to get anyone nearby aside from the target i knocked down away) > position behind the knocked down target and riffle #5 to knock them into my team > riffle 2 to root (with leg specialist) > swap to hammer and earth shaker back to my target (and my team). Makes me feel like Alistar from League of Legends lol.

I’ve been using rifle for quite some time now and it is pretty game changing. Every fire ele out there will try to play area control when it comes to tower defending. Your killshot is shorter than their AoE charge time, and if you’ve build yourself as glass cannon as you can be, you one shot most fire elementalists and thieves. Rangers kneeling to rain arrows down are also great targets.

Killshot to down one squishy guy, 2-3 try to rez, frenzy volley the squishiest guy rezzing. Hit the precision signet to gain another killshot within 8s, traited. Repeat. You can’t remove many invaders out of the equation when it seems stalemated. If you’re anything other than glass cannon, you shouldn’t be using a rifle. It’s the hardest hitting burst warriors have, and at a range of 1500 its alright to be fragile.

Was Kill Shot changed recently? I’m doing about 60% of the damage that I was doing with it last week.

I’m wondering that too, Kill Shot seems to do a lot less damage suddenly, maybe it’s just my shoddy memory though, it’s been a while since I last used it. I just switched to a rifle build and it just seems as if Kill Shot is like 40% less damage now.

I dunno, I still find it pretty easy to Kill Shot a squishy Ele on a wall down in one well placed shot when I’m buffed, haha.

I really like the Rifle in WvW – I’ll often use it in small groups or in field battles for high damage to single targets. Longbow has a good place too though, and I often switch the two depending on the size and speed of the battle.

Rifle is great in open area Wv3. Pop #3 then rapid fire away, switch, close distance and then destroy your target. Warriors are perfect except for a bit of aoe protection and banners kinda need to just go.

My main is an engy but dungeon runners prefer warriors.
