Is long sword underpowered ?
So, the longsword is like really bad isn’t it?

Sword is conditions and general utility.
Yes, axes do more direct damage, but that’s what they’re designed to do at the complete expense of said utility. Axes get no block, axes get less mobility, axes get no condition damage, axes get no immobilize.
Greatsword also loses out on some of the general utility that sword has but gains greater mobility than sword, and much greater mobility over the pure damage of the axes.
They all serve their roles and they’re all in a good spot right now.
Also, final thrust hits fine, let them burn their dodges first and then try it. Hits just as often as anything else in melee does, really.
Priorities, what to do?

Sword is our condition damage melee weapon. Offhand sword is very good at stacking conditions, but mainhand sword could use a little boost.
Flurry is pretty good, but I might suggest making it faster. Right now, you’re a sitting duck while you stand there and swing your sword. I think a level 1 Flurry will self-root for 2 seconds while channeling 8 hits, and level 3 Flurry self-roots for 3 seconds while channeling 12 hits. Each hit adds 1 bleed stack.
I would suggest cutting the channel time in half, as well as the number of strikes, but double the bleed stacks. So a level 1 Flurry would channel for 1 second, 4 hits, 8 bleed stacks. Level 3 Flurry would channel for 1.5 seconds, 6 hits, 12 bleed stacks. Total bleed stands and damage would remain the same, just reduce the channel time.
I would also suggest that the 3rd strike in the auto attack chain (Hamstring) apply 1 stack of torment for 4-5 seconds instead of the current cripple. The bleeds on the auto attack are good, but when you are using just mainhand sword, you run a little short on conditions.
Take leg specialist and relax.

Actually, if you trait 5 into Arms for Precise Strikes, Axe 5 becomes amazing for stacking bleeds if you’re running a DPS/Condi hybrid like I do.
you do realise that you can use the sword immobile burst skill then instantly swap to another weapon like greatsword and use 100 blades, its a win combo of death

Well, you lose the crit bonus you get with a mace, though. With only this you deal less damage and are IMHO a bit clunkier because you have to cancel Flurry, then swap and use hundred blades. I have to use sheathe weapon on mouse weel, and sometimes it doesn’t work.
BUT if you use sword/mace + GS, you can use Mace #5, Final Thrust, Flurry, Hundred Blades. Then the issue would become to make enough sustained damage t use this burst at less than 50%, but it might be cool.

Shortsword? NO!
Use scimitar or rapier, for the 18-20 critical area.XD
because he doesn’t know it himself
I still hate the fact that we have to cancel flurry bc its crap.
I still run longbow/sword+shield build.. but with power/crit.
I think it works better compared to full condition build.. (final thrust/arcing arrow and ofc the auto attack) and you still do nice condition damage in power/crit build..
Also if you go full condition build and you apply pin down > F1 they will cleanse there conditions after it.. and now your doing horrible damage.
Sword auto attack on power/crit build is not that bad.. critting for 1k + 460 bleeding + its fast..
Longbow auto attack is kinda nice because the 2x hits (bleeding/sigils on crits) but the total damage issnt that good, but i almost never use it.. (only use longbow for F1 > #5 > #3 for kitten good crits > #4 always nice against some burst > #2 mwah boring..
After that switch to your other weapon..
Running offhand sword? > conditions (final thrust/arcing arrow sucks)
Running shield/offhand mace? > power/crit (yeah your condition does less damage but its still nice.. also its damage over time.. and between the pindown/F1 you aint doing allot of condition damage so better build for power/crit build.. 5/7k final thrust + 4/5k arcing arrow? yes pls :-)
lol auto attack yeah, but skill 3 that hit more if u enemy is under 50% hp is nasty, with full zerk u can hit 10k in a single hit xd
Having the slightest lag makes final thrust utterly useless. Even though the sword is my favorite weapon, its true purpose is for mobility and flurry, nothing more. #3 takes a setup is awfully slow and predictable and requires your target to be in a small cone right in front of you. Good luck with that.

Sword damage isn’t bad, it just doesn’t hit very often and is telegraphed to other players in PvP/WvW.
It has a nice immobolize if you don’t mind being rooted and if you can get it to connect before you get rooted.
I don’t care for final thrust on skill 3, I would get more use out of that skill when it had cripple(It was excellent before leg specialist had that cool down.)
…but I must admit, the number three skill Final Thrust does feel unwieldy.. but i am adapting, Because it functions very similar to the Engineer Rifles three skill Blunderbuss which is equally awkward and painfully difficult to land but is still not as sluggish as the Final Thrust animation.
