errrr no. What profession are you using presently? Better to play through with one of the more ‘complicated’ professions first (elementalist if you like ranged), then afterwards if you really want to make your second character something like a warrior…you can i guess. There’s only like 2 builds for warriors outside of pve…..pretty easy learning curve although it is a long road to truly mastering the class. But you are better off not taking a warrior since it is not a good choice of profession atm….take revenant its similar but with magic and its meta. Most people here just still play warrior cause they like to play ‘warrior’ hehe. Everything is direct damage…no magic….no stupid stealth…no cheap moves. Pretty much every profession has access to a greatsword so…i wouldn’t get too hung up on the whole ‘warrior’ concept…its in this game but its far from being as effective as other professions are for content outside of pve. So no warrior is not good compared to other professions. It offers a specific playstyle though that is appealing to many people. Something that plays similar to warrior but is much easier and better compared to other professions would be necromancer (or so i’ve been told). ALthough you pretty much just have to look at the pvp season results….there is what?….a ton of revenants….followed by elementalists and then some mesmers and scrappers. im probably missing something but thats all u need in terms of information. Be a revenant….or an elementalist….or a mesmer…or a scrapper…then forget the other professions exist as options to choose….even if you are bad at the game you will best enough of the lesser classes in pvp to keep a positive kill count ratio.

I kill you in one gunflame, or I kill you in two.

At first I thought I made this post. I was like “wtf? Why would I ever ask this! ?”

Yes I’d say it’s worth it. Very straight forward style and if you love great sword then you’re in luck because warrior has the strongest gs set.

I am very glad I ran into this post. I have never played a warrior in GW2 and I’ve played since beta. But, I am looking to try it for the first time because I want something a bit different than my other toons.

Currently I have one of each except warrior and engineer. I’ve tried engi but just could not enjoy it as much so I deleted her. I like my Revenant too but I should have made her something other than a Norn….why is it Norns feel like they are running under water or caught up in sticky mudd? So slowwwwww….

Anyway, I need something different to just play around with to break up my game play a bit. I only pve and, on occasion, WvW with my guild. I am not the best player out there, I am more interested in exploration and pve experiences…pvp is not interesting to me.

As a senior citizen player, I find it really fun to just run around and enjoy the game environment. I am not into having to be the best …but lets face it, at my age (70+) its enough I am actually gaming. Keeps the mind sharp.

But all that aside, would it be an interesting ride for me to create a warrior ??

It’s interesting to know that players of this game have a diverse range of backgrounds.

Much respect to you.

To answer your question, warrior is among top tier in PvE, but low tier in WvW. Like other professions, you’ll see most of your viable attacks being isolated to several traits, weapons, and utilities and never see use of other weapons/traits/utilities. (In the case of warrior, you’re gonna be using a lot of greatsword for PvE)

I’ve fallen in so much love with my Warrior, I’m currently working at turning him into my main… a position my Guard has held for 3 years. I really wish I’d tried a Warrior sooner.

And, I’m a counterexample to this. I’m running an often-dismissed regeneration build with a Hammer/Rifle. My Warrior is an unconquerable walking god of a Charr. (I’m still tweaking the build, but it’s a lot of fun to play.)

I agree with this advice.

I started over a year ago, my first character and main was an Engineer. Once I leveled him to 80, I dabbled with a Guard, a Ranger, and a Mesmer, but never thought of them as my mains, like my engie.

Three weeks ago I started playing a Warrior.

And I haven’t looked back. It is just too much kittening fun to play. The damage is unreal, and now with the Berzerker spec, condi damage builds are fun to play with as well.

OP, most people on these forums are PvPers, so, yes, for PvP advice heed them- with only 3 weeks on my warrior, even I can see what they mean by warriors being kitten in PvP, compared to other classes. Not undoable, certainly, but it’ll be a brick wall you’re smashing to get thru to higher tiers.

In PvE, especially “harder” areas like HoT ones, Warrior is just a joy to play. I’ve never had more fun smashing NPCs in my life while play this game.

low tier in WvW

Get a friend who’s a ranger, run GS/Hammer, and just stun-lock + 100 blade stragglers while he/she pew pews from range is just sooooooo much fun.

But overall, yes, Warrior is even low tier in WvW too :/ I mostly did solo WvW, EotM zerging to get to level 14 for my legendary…and it was a pain in the kitten .

Thank you for this information. hehehe…I even mentioned to my son what I was thinking of doing and all he could do was cover his face and say “what have I created?” You see, I used to watch him play WoW like it was a spectator sport…he did not like that so he bought me a computer and asked me to create my own account. I’ve not looked back since.

heheheh..he tells all his friends that he created the very first granny gammer in his family. So, even though he shakes his head, he appears proud he encouraged his mom to try it.

I think I shall try that. Now to figure out the race …hmmmmm

I recently came back to GW2 after a long break and rolled a warrior just to try. Right now my playstyle is mostly just running around the world farming and messing around with world events, map completion, jumping puzzles, and personal story/living world.

I’ve found the warrior to be hilariously fun compared to some of my other classes (thief, guard, ranger, and ele). It’s just so nice to get on a toon, see stupid big damage numbers, and smash some face after a long day of work.

I play for an hour or two a day – mostly to distress from work and I’m not into some of the more competitive elements of game play (WvW, PvP, Raids, ect.). That being said, if you want a toon just to have fun running around the world with I can say warrior is definitely worth playing.

It’s not completely faceroll on your keyboard as your not as tanky as a necro or ranger and lacks some of the self-healing of other classes. Which, for me, gives it the right risk-reward balance for my current playstyle.

The great thing about this game is if it doesn’t work for you, for whatever reason, you’re not locked in and try something else.

Warriors are more a “necessary evil” than an actual desired class. Their damage is pretty low and they are only brought for might stacks and party buff. A lot of groups are only running 1 in raids now. Pvp they are aren’t the bottom of the barrel they are the dirt the barrel sits on. So unless you really want to play warrior, I would recommend a different class.

Thank you all for your suggestions…however, I am not enamored of pvp, or charr for that matter. I’ve tried both and walked away….far away. I get vertigo when playing the charr and I am not into pvp.

Even though I am not into pvp, I enjoy the group runs in WvW. What I find fun is running around large maps with our group and trying to outmaneuver our opposition. Its the voice chat in the guild runs that is more interesting during these experiences for me. After all, I am not the best player but can help the group out a bit most of the time.

I am often the first to go down and have to waypoint to spawn, but that’s ok, everyone cheers when by accident I end up being last person standing …that is funny.

Lol, I went with Charr only ‘cause I got tired of losing sight of my Asura in all the flashing lights and mosh-pits of battle. I just couldn’t see the little guy when in melee!

My warrior was the first character I made when starting the game almost 3 years ago, and it has been my favorite to play so far. Like you I have no interest in PvP and I only occasionally venture into WvW. I have to say though, I feel like my warrior is not as fun when I am soloing, but is great to play alongside my husband who is an Elementalist. I can run up and take/deal damage while he does he ranged attacks. I have really started to enjoy Reverent for soloing, as she seem to be more versatile.

As far as races go I prefer Humans and Norn. To me Charr and Sylvari have a lot of grinding in their early level and I can’t seem to get past it. Also, while I’m sure this is a mental thing, I feel like doing jumping puzzles as a Charr is impossible. They are so huge and the ledges are so tiny

I keep choosing Sylvari….I really like the elf concept I can create with them. I have a Norn, a Human and a bunch of Sylvari…I even made my rev a Sylvari. But I have to agree with you about the efforts of various races in JPs.

My first character was a Sylvari Ranger and I still play her the most. My Norn is just way too slow and even though I chose the smallest build I could manage, she is still too large. I get vertigo playing the Charr so once I get my personal story out of the way, I shall delete it. I just hope I can manage to hang in there to finish that story though.

I just created my new warrior this past week and yet again, I chose a Sylvari…I just feel such an affinity with that racial setup. Hard to explain. As for my human character, I made my ele a human, and just have not played her much.

I have noticed I have a tendency to gravitate toward my Ranger when I decide to run in guild groups or solo around the new HoT maps.

I have two level 80 warriors (different races), I do enjoy the class. They have a lot of utility for solo exploring, doing Living Story, events, etc. If you just want to run around doing stuff they do the trick. But I can tell they’re currently kind of weak at the more end game pursuits in the game.

That’s the reason I have two warriors. After I got my first one to level 80 and geared I sort of ran out of things to do. So I made another one with a different race and gender and started over with a different story line.
