Hey guys I just hit level 80. Unfortunately I am still ignorant about gear.

As my title indicates, my main focus is on WvW. I’m a bit confused about one thing, are PvP specific items only used in SPvP or in WvW too?

If PvP items are only for SPvP, then what kind of gear should I be aimed for?

I have enough money and karma to buy an exotic weapon, should I do that or get something else with my karma (I have 112k karma right now).

Also I’ve heard that there is different kinds of armor, the three categories I’ve heard of are berserker armor (Power, Precision, Crit damage I believe), Knight (Power, Precision, Toughness?) and Soldier (Power, Toughness, Vitality?) I apologize if I have the stat emphasis wrong, but the point is, as someone who wants to be fighting in WvW I’m pretty sure Berserker is too squishy.

So should a warrior be getting Knight gear or Soldier gear?

This leads to what build I’m going to have, I’ve decided that I’m either going to have the Greatsword/1mace and shield build (for the stun and hundred blade combo) or I’m going to go with the popular 2h hammer and bow combo.

By the way, if anyone is going to try and persuade me to not use either of these builds, keep in mind that I’m only open to using a build where the main weapon used is a 2h. I didn’t roll a warrior only to use 1h weapons in PvP.

you should aim for full ascended gear and top food so you will have advantage over your enemy.

Please don’t play cheesy builds like Mace + shield/GS, because when the combo gets nerf to the ground, you won’t know what to do with yourself. There are so many weapons to choose one, limiting yourself to 2H is like cutting off an arm.

it all depends on what you want to do in wvw. Id say you should probably go with soldiers (maybe mix in some berserker) and mess around with different builds. i use nikes hammer build with some little tweaks. However when im roaming i use his condition warrior build that he has for pvp. Its alot of fun.
but if you just hit 80 i would warn you not to just get sucked into wvw right away. Get some berserker stuff and do some pve to get some gold and ascended trinkets and weapons then go do wvw. thats probably the best and easiest course for you to suceed at smashing scrubs.

SPvP gear is only for sPvP.

Also, WvW allows you to play about any spec you want, unless you want to roam solo or something. If you stick with the herd mostly, you’ll be fine in whatever. I’ve been using a sword/shield+rifle build, but you can easily swap for mace/shield plus GS. I’ve been running it with the GS instead of rifle today and it seems fine. I use the standard pvt gear, as it’s a tanky shout/heal build.

Gear is largely up to your play style, so I’d suggest going into the Mists to experiment with builds and gear before you commit gold. I’ll also second the tip for food, it’s cheap and helpful.

For spending my Karma, is getting the Heavy Aurora set a good choice or no?

- full ascended/exotic zerker accessories (pve, wvw)
- 1 set of zerker gear with scholar runes (pve)
- 1 set of pvt gear with hoelbrak, soldier, melandru (wvw)
- zerker weapons: hammer, LB, gs, mace, shield. Then collect the rest
- run 0/10/30/0/30 and learn m/s with gs, m/s with hammer, hammer with LB- switching V missile reflect for X Merciless hammer

As a matter of fact, there are many efficient builds for a warrior, and trying them all out would cost you a lot, so I’d suggest you experiment a bit in PvP (where stuff is free), to find you which one you enjoy playing the most, before making any significant investment. If you keep on playing the game, you’ll probably end up with different sets anyway.
