So, I make a point of being a kind of ‘jack-of-all-trades’ when it comes to the professions of guild wars. I like to take time learning the strengths and weaknesses of every profession and along the way I inevitably find the professions I’m surprisingly good at and the professions I find surprisingly difficult to get into. Unfortunately, Warrior seems to be one of those professions for me in this game that I’m having a lot of trouble getting into. I find that I seem to die rather easily as a Warrior, which I think must be strange seeing as they’re a high armor class and I don’t seem to be killing things as quickly as I see other warriors killing foes.

I understand that part of the reason is that I’m not lvl 80 on my warrior yet, but I’m at 45 and I’m just having trouble really feeling motivated to work on her. I was wondering if there were any really die hard Warrior players out there that could help me understand the class a bit better? Maybe help me work toward a more efficient build and explain some of the finer points of the Warrior that I can begin focusing on? Tell me how you run your warrior and why? What works and doesn’t work and why, anything you think might be helpful for an aspiring Warrior newbie!

If it’s helpful, I think I’m really fond of the axe main hand, the adrenaline skill is killer, but I haven’t decided on the off hand for that. I like the shield bash skill, but I have to wonder if I’m not missing out on damage by not having something like another axe or a mace there instead. I see a lot of warriors using the great sword as well, though I’m a little on the fence about it but over all I’m just unsure. Great Sword/Hammer/RangedSomething/sword? Are signets or Shouts better? I’ve tried both and I still can’t decide, I die both ways…

Me and my main man Jesus Main Warriors. I Main Warrior because they’re the class that frontlines hardest by nature, allowing for more or less 2 choices, A BRRZRRRKRRRRRR or tanking. I’m strictly PVE not even WvWvW so i can’t help u with PvP, but Jesus Wv3’s as a tank and protects the commander as a massive Tinak, he’s told me great stories full of smashing and lulz. I went all damage on warrior because I saw potential in Warrior damage, if I wanted to do anything other then max damage I would just play another class.

I’ve leveled all classes except Ele and Mesmer, and having leveled 2 warriors I can honestly say that I had alot more fun to level Engi and Necro.

On the other hand, the DEEEPS. Just go straight out damage. You will kill things fast and always try to achieve new highest crits and also learn to dodge like a shaolin monk! While hitting hard you will be squishy, and you will die trying to take on bigger challenges, and that gives opportunity to work out your own build along the way, and you will always have things to do while fighting.

On a side note it can be hard to identify with the Warrior. It doesn’t have a clear “thing” imo. Ofcourse they bring control and high health pool and high damage generally, but I think coming from maybe Mesmers with their confusions and clones or Guardian with their clear support builds or Engis with their turrets and elexirs and kits the Warrior can be pretty…. “Is that it?”

Keep on going though, there’s nothing like beating an awful thief to death with a hammer in WvW.

Yeah, it’s definitely a ‘is that it?" kind of feel, Gamgee! XDLike…it’s almost too straight forward? I keep wondering if I’m missing some grand over arching brilliance of the class. I’ve tried going through some of the less suggested trait lines, looking at possibly maxing defense or tactics just to see if there’s some hidden gem there but it’s entirely useless. Putting everything into defense doesn’t seem to be enough to keep them alive /and/ they don’t kill anything that way, it’s like the line may as well not even be there x.x

I seem to be much more fond of the Necro with her high, high defense and survivability, and the Ranger with his high mobility, versatility, and that adorable little companion XD I’ll just try applying what I’ve learned as far as that goes with keeping mobile and knowing when to bail out for now? :/

Keeping mobile is the secret to playing warrior like a beast. You havn’t missed anything, I just think that the hardest part of playing the warrior is to make most of what you have and eventually get the pieces together. Are you a PvE guy or WvW aswell?

Yeah then there’s not much you can do except go full damage 30,25,0,0,15 and equip a GS. Learn dto dodge. There’s really nothing more to it. If you get really good at it you can solo lupicus
