I see everyone using a greatsword and I tried it out on my level 20 warrior and I don’t see the big deal. I was using dual axes that seemed to be better.
Can anyone give me any advice on what weapons I should be using? All I want to do is level and farm.

GS is only good because of the Forceful Greatsword trait (X in Arms line), which means you need to be at least level 40 to see how powerful it really is.

even then, it performs better only in PERFECT circumstances (you can connect with 100b) over an Axe MH build.

The roaming abilities of the greatsword are some of the best, making it great for getting around and running away when needed. 100b & whirling do a ton of damage, and a cripple is a nice addition to the movement skills to pin down foes.

Edit: It might not be as useful, in this aspect, in PvE.

^ what Theamato said, and if you read the forums long enough, people thing perfect conditions happen 100% of the time, so they take the GS. I myself hated the GS and axe builds

I was curious as well, it didn’t seem very good for me (level 15), and I ended up doing dual axes and longbow offhand

While I was around 20 I was running a sword/warhorn bleed/signet build for crits and bleeds. Warhorn’s your best source of run speed before rage signet elite, and the burst skill is just sick against mobs. Carry a rifle or bow for kiting, and you have a complete kit for getting to 40. Just remember to get a grown-up build when you start playing in dungeons or over 40… signets are great for low-levels but crud after.

I’m leveling a warrior and I’m using Greatsword + Double Axes. The Greatsword really feels like its being forced on you because it has the best AOE dmg AND its single target DPS is good.

In WvW in particular, the GS has one of the best mobility of any weapon in the game. Few will outrun you if combined with the Signet of Rage especially with the immobilize trait (Tactics I). As for PvE the Hundred Blades can be nasty. Personally though I have noticed that many out there do not swap weapons in a fight, and i’m always alternating between it and the rifle almost every cooldown to combine the cripples and range; it’s not my sole weapon.

Whirlwind, best aoe/movement and evasion skill on low CD.
HB is just a nice Dps finish/PvE skill, and rush gives massive space coverage.
Can’t get that with any other weapon in warrior arsenal period.
Honestly, i disliked GS for a long time cause everyone rolled with it, but after getting used to its abilities and learning to switch weapons constantly when your other sets CD’s are up, GS is godly.

IMO whirlwind is super strong, its like a third roll that does great aoe burst dmg and moves you to any location.
