The damage,trait and cast-time for longbow needs to be changed to compere more with rifle wich does alot more dmg and the trait is in damage tree.

Longbow is AoE and Rifle is single target (if you’re good you can hit some multiple with the piercing trait, but not that often).

Longbow also is a great support weapon with fire field, blind and immobilize.

Problem?

Yes I have a problem… I cant decide which to use in WvW!

Rifle for offensive, picking off defenders on walls namely. Longbow for defensive, like firing down off of a wall onto a horde of attackers//burning siege.

For both offensive and defensive sieging the longbow pulls ahead with its area denial.

In open country I guess the rifle is better.

Longbow for sieges for sure. Rifle wont hit guys behind the walls.

I personaly use rifle and longbow. Rifle’s kill shot aka the burst skill/adrenaline skill does more dmg than eviscerate so I use it to snipe the channeling elementalists. Can do up to 15k dmg with it. Longbow with 6-8k AoE dmg (arching arrow) and the burst skill (800-1000dmg/s dot), root(this one gives me +20% cirt rate), AoE blind and piercing(pierces door) fire shot for eliminating whole zerg. Can easily take half hp of the people on the area.

Sometimes use melee weapons so I can whirl on the gate so the attackers gets hit.

On PvE I use 2x Axe and a longbow. Longbow has 2 part attack on auto attack so it can get the sigil effect (chill) faster on for kiteing (it is also easy to kite with axes) and regens adrenaline faster. Arching shot does fast big AoE dmg and regens nicely adrenaline. If there is big group of enemies I just set the fire on ground and combo myself on the flame with whirling axe + eviscerate. Much bigger dmg than you would think to be done with rifle. Rifle is good for 1vs1 pvp and for bosses. You should almost never go melee with bosses

In sPvP I use Rifle. Hands down better (for the rare occassions I actually switch to it)
For PvE I use Longbow as my secondary weapon mostly for the burst skill, Longbow Burst+Arcing Arrow is really strong wide radius aoe, great for events.
Currently I only WvW pvp on my Ele, but I’ll just assume Longbow for Sieging, Rifle for roaming. Pretty basic, it’s just single target vs aoe.

I usually just use rifle in keep defense instead of bow, though it’s a matter of preference. I have specific targets (squishy classes) that I want to see dead, and the rifle can usually burst them down before they realize they need to run. Also when taking keeps, there’s no small amount of overeager rangers and eles that you can almost 1-shot by keeping your target on them and bursting them as soon as they jump up on the wall to get an aoe off (if you open with your burst while they’re casting their aoe they won’t even know someone is aiming for them).

I use both the rifle and longbow in WvsW

I use longbow with my 100b frenzy warrior. You can initiate with it and hopefully force people to waste a dodge or two because of your explosive shot. (Which crits för 3500-4000)

Tossing out a fire field in the middle of points and confirming immobilize into bulls charge frenzy 100b works very well for me. Besides, explosive shot crits for as much as eviscerate does. And having 5 s swap time really helps.

Personally I think rifle is weaker in this build at least. It only has volley and kill shot for damage, and they are both very easy to dodge. Especially after the enemy is aware of your position. On the other hand running a bolas – frenzy rifle warrior is hilarious.

So nobody realize the huge difference? I know its aoe vs single target and that is fine.
The problem is still damage,trait and cast-time.
The spec on bow is in a defensive tree.
I feel like a grandma when i fire the bow.
And base dmg are to low.(with 900 base-range)

Longbow double shot is gold for combo fields, building adrenaline, and general pressure damage, as it hits very hard as it is.

This really is an apples and oranges comparison. There is no competition as they have different roles in combat. One is a slow pressure weapon with an emphasis on AoE damage, the other is a bursty weapon for dealing with single targets.

So what do you suggest? Buff longbow single target damage to the same level as rifle? Who the heck would ever use rifle after that?
