I want to make an archer. I may make a ranger however I’m not really into the whole pet deal. I can work with it but I want to know if the longbow warrior is any good in dungeons, WvW, and spvp.

I will probably run with a sword/warhorn in the other weapon slot. Any information will be much appreciated.

They’re pretty fun and decent overall because of the AoE burst attack they have which I call ring of fire but it’s actually combustive shot It can be used as burst damage or condition damage. I use it for condition because I play a condition warrior build “sword / sword + longbow combo”

Scales better with Berserker than condition trinkets. Hate to admit it but its still a “Berserker” weapon.

Is it possible to use the longbow exclusively and only switch to sword when in melee combat. I would like to sit back and shoot with my bow and not just use the bow for a small bit then mainly switch to swords.

For leveling I’m challenging myself to only use the Longbow and rarely use something different…well solo it is not THAT great unless you pull 2-3 mobs then it is efficient and especially No. 3 skill hits like a truck.
Not sure about maining LB though..would love to know that too(wanted to make a topic myself especially for that ..thanks for taking this off of me =) ).

You can do whatever you want depending on your spec. If you’re a burst damage build or condition build you can sit back and shoot with your longbow.

Use 5th axe to build adrenaline then switch to bow for its burst , you have to use For Great Justice , Signet of Might and signet of rage all the time as soon as they are ready.
Banner will heal you + signet of healing + Adrenal health .

The Warrior’s longbow is something of a siege weapon – it can be quite efficient for dealing with groups of stationary enemies, such as those anchored on a melee-range buddy of yours, but against single enemies or against mobile enemies it tends to fall short. You don’t actually have a lot of damage on it – two of your five skills are short-duration support condition skills (neither of them really very good) and one of your remaining three does mediocre at best at anything but, effectively, point-blank range unless you’re firing into a wide scatter of enemies.

The burst skill is very useful and you can self-combo with it using Arcing Shot, but in more situations than you’ll like, you’ll find yourself firing your autoattack and wishing you had more options. It doesn’t help that the longbow’s supporting traits are in a trait line which otherwise does nothing to help it out, though if you’re wanting S/WH under the bow, Tactics might be worth investing in anyways. You’ll want Stronger Bowstrings – it not only improves your skill range, but turns your 20% Projectile finishers into 100% finishers. Too bad range really isn’t the bow’s problem.

The sad truth is that the Warrior’s longbow was meant for situations that don’t crop up very often in general PvE. Smoldering Arrow and Pin Down both have no real excuse for being as bad as they are, and your only truly long-range attack is Dual Shot. Everything else is either too slow or too something-else, unless your enemies are staying conveniently put. Still…SB and a bunch of Dual Shots through a Fire field off Combustive Shot is a lot of burning damage. Maybe that’ll be enough.

Longbow can be a beast in WvW with a full berseker build. You can clear a keep wall like no one’s business – I’ve had Combustive Shot ticking for 1500-2000, and Arcing Arrow hitting for 7-8000. Normal dungeons it’ll work, fractals not so much, you’re going to be pretty squishy. You might be able to make a LB/zerker build work in open PvE, but you really only have one ranged CC, unless you slot Throw Bolas or something. IMO, you’re better off going Rifle if you want to play a ranged war, where at least you can keep the target crippled half the time.

That being said, LB is a great secondary weapon since you can drop a fire field and finish it yourself. I run axe/shield and LB, and my favorite is Combustive Shot > Arcing Arrow (might) > swap and Shield Bash for fire shield > Eviscerate for fire shield again when you have a bar of adrenaline.

i suggest axe/warhorn + longbow its the combo i use and does really good damage.. its the best convination of weapons to me so far.. and also fun.. needs more control it has great survavilty , i also use knight equip with runes of soldier…

for weapon i use sigil of blood and sigil of battle and sigil of fire in longbow..

I wouldn’t recommend this. If you want to use a bow without a pet, go shortbow thief.

in pvp i’ve only scored 300 several times, and only scored 325 once,
and that 325 was as longbow warrior!
i rolled 0/30/0/10/30 focusing on crits and conditions, with 70%(90 with fury)
combine the 30 point “furious” trait that grants adrenaline on crits and the 30 point “adrenaline skills cost less” you can pretty much use your burst with stage 3 adrenaline every time its off cooldown.

i use either “Flame Legion” or “Pack” runes and the amulet with over 700 crit and a nice amount of condition damage

love running a bow as my secondary because i run with a condition build, it’s mostly the burst skill that i use it for because it’s amazing for denying an area for the enemy to stand on, and with all my condition damage it can do some really nice burn damage

If you say “archer”, I see Robin Hood archetype. Warrior with longbow is more like Rambo with his exploding arrows. Not so big bang, but same style.
