Why no stronger bowstrings? Is there something I am missing?
Why not take those 30 arms and put them into strength? If you take heightened focus and a sigil of accuracy with some food, your crit chance is around 90% even without going into arms. 30 into strength will ensure your crits are crazy high.

I personally don’t think the two longbow talents are really worth their investment compared to other things.

The purpose of 30 arms and 30 tactics is to be able to do a Combustion shot every 8 seconds. While the 30 trait in Strength for Berserkers stance isn’t bad it only provides adrenaline boosting every 45 seconds, whereas extra adrenaline on hit is constant gain. Especially since it’s AoE crits, it usually guarantees at least 2/3rds of your bar full by the time you’ve hit your Explosive Shot.
But I will experiment with your suggestion and see if it works better than what I’ve got going on. Thanks!
Thanks I will try your build out tonight.
Attached is my current build, feel free to laugh at it. I run longbow/sword+warhorn with quick breathing/boon conversion and movement breaking/leg specialist… its fairly mobile and i can get away from most bad situations… but I bet lacks the damage you bring.

Actually, you will be able to fire off a combustive shot every 8 second. You have 3 sources of max adrenaline: signet of rage, adrenal health and signet of fury. If you think about it, usually even with furious, you’ll probably get max adrenaline form either signet or heal before you furious fully recharges it. This is especially true in defense / offensive positions as you will not be able to stay at the front line for long.

You raise a good point. I’ll definitely give 30 strength a shot tonight.
I was actually doing this with a rifle and gs in wvwvw at first and I found a lb and switched out the rifle, gotta admit it is fun in Zerg fights
If anything bow is great just for badge farming for invader/or whatever gear.

Wich is also why you should use Explorer gear instead of Berserker, you’re pretty much farming so why not?
I think I have an armor set with pirate runes on it! will have to check
lol longbow is crazy in wvw, just place a f1 in the zerg then sit back and enjoy the loots
I love the longbow in zerg fights. I traited stronger bowstrings for a little more reach so I don’t have to walk into all those enemy AoE fields at choke points in order to fire into their zergs. I haven’t tried my MF gear yet but I probably will give it a shot and see if I get more badges.
Traiting longbow also makes the auto attack a projectile finisher (2 actually) 100% of the time. playing smart with fields you can be inflicting conditions on the bad guys or removing them from the good ones, stealing health, and all other kinds of nifty things.
This is pretty close to the build that I run, it’s really fun. I’d definitely suggest the greatsword over the hammer for this build. And like others are saying you should look into stronger bowstrings, it does much more than the description says. Plus the extra range is always helpful.

the fact of the matter is that the stronger bowstrings trait is one of the most powerful weapon buffing traits in the game. if not the most powerful. it makes every attack on the longbow either a combo field or a guaranteed finisher.
i’ve used [fan of flames] in my own fire field at point blank range far to many time to not love this trait, after getting hit with that an opponent either needs to cleanse or die, then there is hitting someone trapped in a feedback bubble for massive confusion stacking.

this,
also stronger bowstrings its a must.
because without it you can’t defend keeps, your arrows will not reach targets when you stand on the wall above.

This. It’s also the only time I miss my ranger when on my thief.
U mising 10 points fom Traits loooooooooool
U mising 10 points fom Traits loooooooooool
That’s because the last 10 traits are optional. roooooooooooooooooooooofl
I used the last 10 for stronger bowstrings.
I like it, still running sword/warhorn.
Ill keep it until I get enough badges for invader gear, then hammertime!
(I run lyssa runes in knights gear, and I swap out some of your utils for bolas (for when they break out of pin down) and stomp sometimes for obvious www reasons)
Seems like a good build for farming badges, going to give this a go before trying a Hammer/Sword build.
I’ve found that if you run Zerker gear with Superior Runes of the Eagle, ascended rabid backpiece, ascended rabid accessories, and cavalier amulet & rings you’ll end up with the same 88% crit chance, a much higher armor rating (more survivability), and increased condition damage to boot.
As for my melee weapons I run dual axes. The mobility is far more than running a greatsword and the damage is on par, as well as being able to have multiple sigils. (Accuracy and Rage)

How, may I ask, does dual axes provide more mobility? Sure, you have the gap closer in Eviscerate, but that’s it. And you can’t use it as an escape skill really because it barely goes anywhere and has a recoil.

It’s not more mobile than having a warhorn or a sword leap, but you’ve got a cripple with a long duration and are able to stay on the move while you build adrenaline with Axe 5. It’s a lot more flexible than say, greatsword.
Ah, I see what you’re saying now.
This guide has been updated and moved to Into the Mists.

Stronger bowstrings is something you would only want to touch if the range was necessary. Open field (which is where a zerg backliner would be…) you’re dropping 10% of your auto attack dps if you put it in.

Greatsword has 2 mobility skills (one of which is a dodge) and an even longer cripple…

What are you smoking o.O
Comparing those 2 weapon sets and saying GS has less? when was the last time you played this game?
