I have been looking around for awhile as to what skills/weapons I can use on my Warrior that will give more AoE damage/support or that will inflict damage upon multiple targets. At first, I created a build for the rifle that used piercing but wasn’t all that impressed. I was wondering though, if I go with a zerker set or something similar that used power+precision, is the LB a decent option for what I’m trying to do?

Basically, I find myself in groups trying to take down or slow down the advance of a zerg and so I thought if I go with the LB and then trait into the increased range, perhaps that would be more effective than my current GS+Rifle zerker build.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Well personally, Longbow is my favorite sidearm for WvW. Combustive Shot generates tons of adrenaline if it constantly hits 5 people (though that’s about to get nerfed), Arcing Arrow does a load of damage. Smoldering Arrow is capable of blinding multiple foes. Fan of Fire is a cone AoE that pierces, so it can also hit a ton of people. And this is from a Power build POV.

I don’t think that Stronger Bowstrings is worth the investment. It increases the range from 1,000 to 1,200 and messes around with the damage of various skills.

Almost every WvW build I have has a Long Bow in it. The only one that doesn’t is my zerging Hammer-Sw/WH and even on that one I am sometimes tempted to replace the sw/wh for a LB. Long Bow rocks in WvW. I also don’t trait for it anymore since they increased the range to 1000.

The trait used to give you 100% projectile finishers. I haven’t paid enough attention to see if that’s still the case, though. Can anyone confirm or deny?

The trait still does that. It also reduces the damage of Dual Shot by 10% and doubles the damage of Smoldering Arrow.

Is that even a question? How many interrupts does Sw/Sw+LB have? But if you use Sw/Sh with stomp or bulls charge, and distracting strikes, thats different.

Here is what i use. Also furious is amazing. You can literally use your f1s off CD. Also since dual shot is 2 hits, if both of them crit your getting 6 strikes of adrenaline from one auto. My favorite part is the longbow auto hits twice, allowing twice the chance for on crit affects. I’ve gotten 10+ stacks of bleed and burn, all from just using LB. I almost never swap to Sw except to reapply torment and to finish people off with leap and sword f1.

Ill swap out zerker stance for endure pain based on whatever build ill be fighting
Runes are pretty important. We get 50% bleed duration from traits, 40% condi duration from food, and 10% condi duration from runes. In total, bleeds are 100% duration, and burns are 50% duration. Plus that fear from the x6 of nightmare always seems to off at the clutchest moments for me.

If you wanted to use perplexity I’d just take 20 from arms into strength and use stomp and either kick or bulls charge with offhand shield.

Also bit off topic, wouldnt it be cool if rip on offhand sword had like a 1sec daze on it?

I love the longbow in WvW together with s/wh. What you need with the longbow is an adrenaline strategy to keep the bursts flowing.

Very happy with the LB in wvw, worried about the next patch.

LB is great for tagging. Paired with Cleansing Ire and Discipline tree you can almost spam a large fire field AoE. Great for stacking Might also.

I always use LB in WvW, mostly in zerg fights. The good points are already pretty much outlined above. But just to add, LB’s AOE skills are great in raking loots as well. Pop out ur burst, skill #3, skill #4 and with sigil of fire, u have alot of good dps, low cd AOE skills. AA even though has 1000 range, but due to its arcing projectile nature, it can go much further than that. Lastly, Pin Down is one of the best cc skill in game, for its duration.

Personally for me the LB is a utility weapon in WvW but I carry one almost religiously when I’m with a zerg or group. I mostly use it to immobilize rabbiting players before closing for the kill and to stack area might on team mates with Combustive Shot + Arcing Arrow. It’s also not too bad for putting AoE fields down on walls to take pressure off of friendly rams/gatecrashers.

When running solo or in small teams and I want a ranged weapon I usually take a rifle for the ludicrously high damage you can get right off the bat from Killshot.

So personally I feel that yes, it’s a good WvW weapon, but I only really use it in group situations.

I’m not sure about how effective it is using P/P/T set, but most of the bow skills are condition ticking, so stacking + condition just makes sense.

I watched a vid of a guy using a ham/bow on youtube and what struck me was how low his ticks were compared to my condition build ticks.

That’s kind of what I was thinking as well. The problem is, while this is great for roaming, it doesn’t appear all that effective in zerg Vs zerg. With all the AoE condi removal, I found that most enemy zergs just ignore me.

In WvW Rifle > LB.
With inc path this will become larger.

In Zerg v Zerg or Blob v Blob it is all about the AoE’s…. and the immobilize #4 skill on runners… All about the bags. Swap to a GS and do the GS AoE on movement of the commander, which isn’t about Cond. much, but hits a lot of folks, the more the merrier. Let the sure weight of your Blob/Zerg do the overall killing, tag tag tag is the name of the game. Also, on keep takes the #4 LB is great for tagging the keep/castle/tower Champions, the tick will do a lot of dmg, get you the chest and you don’t have to be at the front to do it, just make sure you’re up the ramp enough or you will be obstructed or the Champ is pulled down the ramp.

I run a DPS-oriented build in WvW with longbow, and it works pretty well for my build. The thing to realize with the longbow is that it’s somewhat of a hybrid weapon. While it has some attacks that include conditions, the raw damage from some of its attacks are pretty strong too.

More importantly, the LB seems to be the only viable range AoE option for the warrior. In many WvW situations, having something that can hit multiple targets at range is invaluable, which makes the LB so useful there. If they ever provide an update like giving the rifle some AoE shots (via change to the skills or traits), then that might make the rifle an option to consider instead.

I don’t usually use a range weapon but I always have a rifle and longbow in my inv, and from time to one if in get lazy and just wanna stay in the back ill just equip one, and as a berserker warrior here’s what I think about it. I feel like everyone that sees a warrior with a longbow assumes its a condition warrior so they don’t really try to dodge to much or something , but once I land that immobilize and use the 3 skill their hp just drops and then my auto attack usually hits for around 900 x2
