Please feel free to be blunt – but not kitten – about feedback.

Was going for well rounded – able to provide support, cc, damage, etc. I don’t like being glass ankitten ot a super l33t 1v1er so I was aiming for flexibility.

If I need to scout an area, swap hammer for greatsword for mobility
Keep defense, longbow
Escorting yak, others are better but aoe swift never hurts…
etc, etc…

Yes, I know specialists tend to be more effective – but I know there are others out there who enjoy having flex in their builds because you don’t know exactly what you may be doing.

Have a full suite of weapons in the bag, all zerker with various runes depending on need and I swap often but the staple is Sword/Warhorn.

Thanks…

Well for starters use a calculator that’s up to date like gw2skills.net or intothemists.com.

I only mentioned it because there have been trait changes since gw2buildcraft was last updated. Such as “Turtle’s Defense” and “Embrace the Pain” no longer exist.

The problem with Cleansing Ire is that it only really works 100% of the time with Longbow. It’s the only burst skill that will go off every time. Others can miss due to a number of factors resulting in no adrenaline spent meaning no conditions cleansed.

I realize there aren’t a whole lot of options for traits there, but Dogged March with condition removal is slightly redundant. The normal approach to dealing with conditions is go all in to either duration reduction (Dogged March, Melandru runes, and Food) or removal not both.

Also as far as Hammer goes it gets hurt probably the most out of all weapons when untraited. I really can’t say because I don’t think I’ve ever used Hammer untraited.

For the runes you are running two shouts so you could run Soldier runes. Also I’ve never liked Lyssa runes. All it takes is one smart Necro with Corrupt Boon to ruin your day. And you should have enough condition removal between traited Warhorn, SIO, and Cleansing Ire.

I really can’t suggest a good generalist build that’s in line with what you appear to be going for, but I hope my comments help.

Dont wanna give all the answers but do want to point out some of the more glaring issues:

1) for your build (and most builds) balanced stance > dolyak signet, even if it is traited its still a 48 sec cool down compared to 40 sec on stance. If the passive effect is up (rune not being used) your group is already dominating the fight and you shouldn’t be taking massive damage, typically though in a zerg vs zerg, you’ll be popping stability almost straight away. so the difference is the cool down timer.

2) healing signet: unfortunately even with the trait active or passive heal per second from this is << heal from mending… this holds especially true if your build will be running cleansing ire (when u take damage, adren fills up, so its full when u need the heal).

3) If your going to run 2 or more shouts, run soldiers runes and shout heals, if your running less than 2 shouts, dont run soldiers runes and shout heals.

4) Death from above: how often do you find yourself actually killing players or winning a battle off of this? If you really want to defend a gate, aren’t there more effective ways to do it? Are you sure you cant find something better to do with the 10 trait points that would increase your effectiveness in combat?

Sagramor and Tammuz make some good points.

In my experience Merciless Hammer and Leg Specialist improve the hammer greatly, as does Unsuspecting Foe.

I want to use Death from Above but keep finding something more useful in the other four trait lines.

Awesome feedback – it is very much appreciated.

Took it back to the drawing board with your input. Y’all helped me realize I was missing a lot of synergy.

I ended up losing a lot of crit chance dumping Lyssa but I make that up by swapping some of the PVT armor for Knights since I have vitality to spare. Condition removal now pure shouts/soldiers and horn. Included stance synergy for the 2 auto/1 active stances. I may have gone overkill on Stability sources but really if I get pinned down/separated it’s gonna hurt.

Keeping DfAbove for mobility mainly…chasing/evading. You are probably correct that I’ll end up nixing it but I’d like to try and keep it in the build at least as a swappable option. It’s also a touch of fun factor – gotta have some flair to enjoy. This may end up going to 10 in Arms for Unsupecting Foe next iteration.

Running to/from locations will find me with GS equiped and the default setup.

If I know I’m going to be running in the hammer train I can swap out Defy Pain for Merciless Hammer and Sure Footed for Cull the Weak, then dump Empower Allies for Leg Specialist.

By the same token in seige/defense would swap to Longbow and change Empower Allies to Stronger Bowstrings.

I think this starts addressing some of the glaring holes pointed out…maybe…

Since this is a Zerg build you could probably drop DfA. It’s more of a roaming trait. And you’ll get a lot more mileage out of Signet Mastery or Unsuspecting Foe. Try dropping DfA for a week or so and see if it’s something you’ll actually use. I don’t often see too many zergs jumping off cliffs.

You don’t need to trait Cull the Weak to make Hammer useful. Merciless Hammer is enough. If you have your heart set on the Hammer I’d suggest trading Merciless Hammer for Defy Pain, and DfA for Unsuspecting Foe. I never liked traits that trigger at 25%, because unless you’re heal is off CD you’re going down anyway. Especially in a zerg. Besides you’ll still be susceptible to conditions and control measures.

Hard to dismiss Unsuspecting Foe – so more damage output and balanced out crit % for less waste (aiming for 100% with Fury and Unsuspecting, am just a touch over that).

A little worried about the 2.9k armor – then again this isn’t a pure tank build.
