I’ve been playing since launch and took a 5 month break and now i got back into playing. I missed a lot of the changes that happened to the warrior and just changes in general.

I am now clueless to what builds are effective in WvW and would like some guidance. The only thing I know of is the p/t/v shout sw/w build.

Solo roaming, zergs, or small group(2-10)?

Any other builds out there? i’d like to see some options. i really want to use a sword as i just got Jormag’s Breath.

That build uses a sword :/ did you even look at it? Any decent build is gonna have a hammer as the AoE stun is invaluable. The sword is there for mobility and finishing with final thrust. The war horn is to buff your group

I did look at it. i would just like some other perspectives, it actually appeals to me a lot.

Well you can go tankier with it as well, just at the cost of dmg and earthshaker spam.

After playing my new warrior allot int WvW, I have went against the grain as it were. I find The Hammer and Long bow to be the most versatile and useful build. There are simply times you run across a bigger zerg, so staying back a bit and hitting them with the long bow, or using the long bow from a keep wall is really useful.

While it may be different on other servers, on mine, its SUPER rare you will run across a fair fight. You will face 2 or more players alone. I just found that the hammer, long bow offers me more options, and better survivability. As far as the war horn offering a better option for the group. I just thing there are already enough warriors in the group using the war horn, So I play my warrior a bit more selfish.

There have been LOTS of times I come close to taking out the enemy only to have them try and run away, Well, My long bow kinda helps stop that. Using the “Stronger Bow Strings” I have taken out more than a few who tried that “run away” defense.

Gotta head to work in a few, I will be more than happy to post how I built my warrior, and the traits I find to be most useful in the am. Again, I may get flamed. While nice armor, runes, and sigils do help, you can drive your self crazy trying to find the best combo. My attitude with WvW, when your over run by a zerg, or Attacked by 3 or more toons, no matter what gear you have, your gonna get owned.

The only time you really need to become picky about your gear is in pvp. I don’t play pvp. So keep a eye on this thread, I will go into detail my build in the a.m.

It largely depends on what you want to accomplish. Do you wanna be able to actually kill people and deal dmg, or do you wanna be the guy thats impossible to kill? For smaller groups id recommend going more on the damagy side, but anything 15-20+ id reccomend going full on tank

For my WvW warrior I go with Hammer, Long Bow. Just offers me better options to either Get in the fight, or hang back and Snipe, and Get the “run away for defense Toons”

I run a Mixture of Berserker’s and Knights, with Superior Rune of Lyssa. For Wepons I use berserker"s.

I trait him out to 0 0 30 10 30. Dogged March, Clensing Ire, Balanced stance. Blanced Stance is So handy In WvW. Then on the 10, Stronger Bow Strings. More distance for my bow. Then Warrior’s Spirit, Signet Mastery, and Burst Mastery.

For My Skills, I go Signet of Stamina to cure all conditions, Dolyak Signet to help Incoming damage, And Stomp, Just to get a crow off of me if needed. Very useful. For my elete, I like Signet of Rage.

With this build, I have not found any major Flaws, I can Run Orr no problem, Dungeons, WvW. I dont play pvp.

I went with a Asura, Love there dodges, and I power leveald him pretty fast in Edge of the Mist.

The problem with longbow is youll never be able to do the “run away for defense” thing which is very important for WvW. You won’t always be fighting smaller zergs than you, eventually your gonna find a much bigger Zerg which youll have to run from

basically this. if you’re going to be playing with other players around, then go shout heals, sword/wh hammer. it’s the best all around build for warrior in wvw.

theres a couple different variations to the trait setup though. 1/0/4/6/3, 0/0/4/6/4, 0/0/5/6/3 all work basically the same.

as for gear, build as balanced as possible. get up to 3k armor, 30% crit chance, then everything else into power/ferocity, and maybe a little bit of vitality.

I agree, there are times you gotta get out and run away,thats why I use “stomp” Imho, without the bow, you have two choices, tank, or back out and wait to heal.

I have backed out to the edge of a zerg fight, and threw my long bow blast with some great luck. In the end, you gotta play your warrior the way that works best for your play style. I am NOT saying using the long bow is must. I am simply saying its a very viable option that you should explore, try, see how it works for ya.

I have seen to many posts that swear using a longbow in wvw is a very bad Idea. I humbly disagree, and strongly suggest you try it out. I have tried the Sword/Warhorn, Hammer build, not a fan of it. Thats just me.

I tried to make use of the bulky soldier’s gear but i didn’t want a drastic drop in dps. I found that the condition removal into boons would compliment this nicely as my warhorn also removes conditions. What are your thoughts?

yeah thats fine, but you want reduce shout cooldowns, and probably zerk trinkets

Can you explain how the zerker trinkets would help? It just seems like i don’t need the precision and ferocity.

even with the might stacks? my power is boosted to 2900 whith 10 stacks of might and reaches about 3.5 with 25. the loss in power and defense doesn’t look worth the small precision boost of 22%. and with the crit nerf, not being more invested with zerker gear makes this investment irrelevant.

Warriors are generally tanky enough passively and have great mobility/evasion skills that adding much more to it is overkill and stunts your skills. Unless you’re part of a specialize WvW guild I don’t recommend taking too much gear that is tough/vit, rather rely on your positioning and skills to stay alive.

In that build you can swap FGJ out with another ability if you think it’s not needed (Endure Pain if you are seeing a lot of ZvZ and usually your side is outnumbered could help, Bulls Rush if you find your self in more small man fights, FGJ is a generic all-around good skill though).

With your traits (Dodge March) + Food + Runes you have -60% condition durations (they almost need 300% condition duration to counter this) and 93% movement defense (if you get immobilize it’s like a split second of your character jolting). But if you do find yourself stuck with some conditions Earthshaker will remove 3 conditions.

Idea is to swap back and forth and use your hammer CCs correctly to line it up with 100B, while using GS 3 and 5 to get out after doing your damage. It’s a decent build vs zergers, but against specialize 1v1 or small man players it might not do so well due to how highly telegraphed Earthshaker is.
