Mace + Shield/Hammer Def Build
If your going to support, try mace off hand, and sword main hand. Sword main hand provides you with leap, a cripple and some decent damage if you need it. Mace off hand provides an awesome knock back that chases people, as well as a 13 seconds 4 stack of vulnerability. Mace 5 is better than shield 5 and mace 4 provides more support. Run stomp, kick, and enduring pain, all provide nice support and tons of knockdown/knockback.
Shield gives you a lot of survivability if you put traits in defense to GM.

with sure footed you get longer shield stance, which will be enough to recharge your heal skills and with missile deflection you are even safer.

Strength Trait: III
Defense Traits: V, IX, X
Tactics Traits: II, V, XI
Utility skills: Healing Signet, Banner of Defense, Banner of (your choice), Endure Pain and Signet of Rage.
Equipment: Full Toughness/Vitality armor (except for helmet because it doesn’t exist), Cleric’s Jewelery, Knight’s Hammer, Knight’s Mace, Vaklyrie Shield
Does a Full Defense Built and gearing does have a major impact on how durable you are? I know that you cant facetank most stuff but do you survive situations you wouldnt have survived with less defense?
you know… 90 toughness useless.. pick something else on that trait line. seriously.
