Hello everyone!

I was just wondering if such build makes any sense for solo/zerg PvE play? The idea is to put all trait points into toughness/vitality and select any traits that increase these two stats in either way. Plus runes, armor and sigil – all toughness/vitality-focused. Minus jewelry – it will be power/precision-focused. As for the skills, I’ll choose only condition-removing ones (except the elite skill).

The question is: what am I going to get as the result? Will it be somewhat increased survivability and almost no offensive capability or great survivability and again almost no attack potential?

Hey, just for fun, I made up a build here:
http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/warrior/?8.0|9.1c.h2.e.1c.h1l|2.1c.h2|1c.7o.1c.7o.1c.7o.1c.7o.1c.7o.1c.7o|2u.0.2u.0.3u.0.3u.0.2u.0.2u.0|a2.0.u28b.u57b.0|21.1|0.0.0.0.0|e
50% damage reduction, 60k effective HP

At this point, your damage is low, and you won’t crit. You are basically a walking damage soak and help your allies with banner buffs and heavy CC (mace + hammer)
You also proc protection randomly from earth runes at which point damage is probably close to 80% reduced.

I also made a build for fun but went a bit more offensive as I don’t believe full defense is the way to go without some damage.

http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/warrior/?8.0|7.1c.h17.e.1c.h1|c.1c.h4.g.1c.h8|1c.7x.1c.7x.1c.7x.1c.7x.1c.7x.1c.7x|2u.0.2u.0.3u.0.2u.0.3u.0.2u.0|a5.0.f2.u68c.f6|39.7|0.0.0.0.0|e
46% damage reduction, 56k effective HP

You can get up to about 56% crit chance by getting stacks for 250 precision, and almost perma fury between signet of rage and For great justice since its a shout build.

Utilities: [Heal of choice (suggest healing surge)/For great justice/Shake it off/Signet of Stamina(can be on your mark or any other utility)/Signet of Rage]

With axe and 56% crit chance/fire sigil/ 2k+ power, you can still do good damage, support team with buffs/ and still tank-soak plenty of damage.

That’s still hardly an offense…
Doesn’t even hit 3k effective power xD

It doesnt take into account sigil stacks/fury/sigil of fire blasts/the 8+ might stacks he can keep between signet of rage/for great justice or empowered bonus. Id say its almost 4k effective power if you take all into acount. Which I think is pretty nice for a build that boasts some nice tanky stats/condition removal.

If you’re going for max survivability in solo pve then full cleric/banner regen is the way to go.

I tested 3 gear sets with axe/mace against different level champions in solo mode (a risen noble in Malachor’s Leap, The branded general in Iron Marches, Corrupted Kodan in Snowden Drifts).
-First set was full exo soldier’s with ascended back, rings and amulet. I managed to survive for quite a while but in the end the champ wore me down before getting him to 50%.
-Second set was full berserker with ascended back and rings. Burst dmg means nothing when you’re soloing a champ who attacks a bit faster than a turtle (most champs). Dodges go a long way but 2-3 hits and you’re dead.
-Third set: full cleric (no ascended), banner of tactics regen, healing signet, full adren. Alt+tab and go eat a sandwich. Return from time to time to reset the banner and you’re golden.

Now I’m not touting this as the discovery of the century but my tests yielded the results shown. In terms of pure survivability a max regen warrior with tactics banner and runes of the grove (some protection) can simply shrug off a lot of damage (either from champs or from packs of mobs).
Solo pve is the way of attrition if you want to complete group events by yourself.

What you’re seeing there is what we call “sustain”.

It’s what guardians have in very large amounts, and in many more ways than this.

Yes, I think I got spoiled by my dear Guardian. I am having problems, and am actually finding Warrior the hardest Profession to play. It’s not a “learn to dodge” issue, as I have been playing the game since headstart, and surely know how to dodge. But it’s rather sad how a supposedly “bad PvE Profession” like Mesmer has it way easier than my lovely Warrior. Simply put, I cannot play at all like my Guardian does-she has no fear, and unfortunately, it seems I cannot take as many mobs at the same time as I am used to with my Guardian.

(Note to Warrior lovers-this is not a troll post against Warriors; I just want to make it work for me, so I am not saying that “Guardian is better than Warrior.”)

Granted, she’s only level 19, but the Ascalonian Ghosts made short work of her as if they were a bunch of Risen from Cursed Shore (and those mobs are actually easy for my other characters.) Even 3 Level 19 ghosts finished my Warrior, no problem.

Is it a matter of Warrior being underpowered at low levels, or that I just cannot engage many enemies as I usually do with my Guardian? I am tempted to NOT go glass cannon at all with her, just based on my horrible (so far) experiences with survivability (Warrior high hit points are not making any great difference.) I also use Endure Pain to make her low survivability more bearable, but 5 seconds can only do so much. If any of you have any tips on early level survivability, please feel free to contribute.

The difference actually gets bigger as you go up and unlock the guardian traitlines allowing better survival and damage, and the warrior falls further behind.

If anything the strongest time for a warrior is at low level when the higher baseline armor and hp means something with the lack of utilities and gear available, and ofc signet lolcrit spec.

Perhaps I don’t remember how was my experience with Guardian during the first weeks, but I do feel quite frustrated dying more than any other Profession at this level. :/ It is the reason I posted; soloing stuff is getting hard to do.

Another person told me the same, that he/she found it “easier with warrior”, but my experiences tell me otherwise.

Things are easy with warrior at low level as long as you go critlol spec with signets. That thing makes it hilariously easy and quick up to level 50-60 or so. Been a while since I levelled warrior but it was simple to say the least.

PVE aside from high fotm’ is mainly berserker gear with a few cav(i use 3)
The defense tree adding nothing you’ll ever find useful in comparison to pretty well any other tree especially when it comes to solo pve. That’s the reality of a pve warrior.

BG Mrplow – Highly rated since 1987.

The OP asked about a warrrior solo pve style. The first posts provided options.
Let’s not get bogged down in pointless war vs guard discussions else this becomes another “best healer” thread.
