Mesmers
Not what spec you are or the mesmers you are having trouble with. WvW or spvp, but heres my experience.
InWvW, I just keep the fight moving. It keeps the clones at a distance. I am a condi spec so I try and keep a variety of condis on them so they cant cleanse all stacks with 1 torch skill.
The actual Mesmer will need to stay in front to hit you. Hit him when hes not in stealth.
The main thing is to keep the fight mobile to make their clones useless.
im currently specced 20/0/20/30 with a hammer.
Im new to playing a warrior(playing since yesterday) and Ive found myself to be completely obliterated by mesmers.
Now that we are at it, ive also tried playing with an axe because ive heard eviscerate does high damage. But when I tried it out I was hitting people for 250 damage with it when having full adrenaline so im not sure if ppl are trolling when they say its high damage?
I mean, i literally couldnt kill an AFK enemy warrior with the axe as mainhand, his passive heal outhealed my damage.
For mesmers, try crying. I’ve had moderate success with that.
As for eviscerate, that sounds impossibly low. Are you using a really low level weapon? The big numbers come when you spec for critical damage.
It will depend on gear. Axe is powerful. You need to be in range for the third auto attack in the chain. The damage is back loaded now. On eviscerate, you need to make sure its a crit and that you actually land it. It should be a lot more damage. I am not sure what gear you are wearing. Axe seems like an odd pair with hammer though.
What role are you fulfilling? Are you running solo, small group, or in a large group?
At the time i was wearing an axe + shield and longbow. This is for spvp btw.
With runes of the lyssa. Ive heard that you can almost one shot thieves with eviscerate but 600 damage crits are hardly a scratch.
In a build calc, using my full condi gear it said a level one eviscerate normal hit should be around 672 against heavy armored. (2600 armor) it was over 1000 for a level 3 hit. Like I said though, thats full condi stats not power/precision/crit gear.
Are you running p/v/t and it was a non crit? Perhaps verse someone with protection active?
I moved away from power based builds since I couldnt make them viable 1vX when roaming in WvW against mixed groups so I may not be the best help here. Wish I had better advise to give.
mesmers are confuseing at start only way to beat mesmer is to know how mesmer plays so basicly main mesmer for month or 2 and learn its tricks and you can beat mesmer with other proffessions later. and at current meta dont kill clones it hurts
You can eat PU mesmers by running enough condition cleansing. For that purpose, I run an off-hand Warhorn and 3 shouts supported by Rune of the Soldier. This gives me a ridiculous amount of condition cleansing that completely counters most, if not all, condition builds.
The power-based mesmers require control; a hammer is great. Make them waste blink and decoy with short low-cooldown interrupts, and then move in with your strongest Earthshaker and on-switch damage combination. I use Axe and Eviscerate for that purpose. A Mace/Shield have given me success, too, but I personally can’t run without Quick Breathing Warhorn in fear of condition spam.
Inactive: Guardian, Elementalist, Ranger, Thief (ex-main)

Hammer is too slow against a mesmer. I main a Mesmer while I actively play a Warrior (Axe/Mace-S/Sh) and I don’t have huge problems with Mesmers since they are predictable as Greatsword Warriors. Most bad Mesmers expose themselves in a battle by moving completely different than his/her clones.
Though Greatsword is a good option against Mesmers since you get an additional Dodge-skill which is great to avoid damage spikes.
But I think that Shield always does a great job combined with Endure Pain.
If you put enough traitpoints into Defense (At least up to Cleansing Ire) and at least 10 points into Strenght you will have enough condition cleanse along with Berserker Stance or Signet of Stamina . Its the most important thing against Mesmers and Necros.
And try runes and bufffood which reduces condition duration on you.
Also try to strike when they already dodged twice. Do something unpredictable and try to control them.
In my opinion warriors are able to eat tons of damage and conditions and you are still able to dodge a huge damage spike of a mesmer.

Axe/Shield + Longbow
30/0/0/10/30
Signet of Fury,Signet of Might,Bull’s charge
Everytime the mesmer try to get some distance, jump into that way too.
Try to zig zag between clones. Use longbow #3 and F1 to kill them off quickly if they bother you.
Try to use longbow #5 to immobalize them and #3, it crits around 6-8k.
If they used all their jumps use bull’s charge + shield charge + axe F1.
Then after that instantly Axe #2 and #3 (make them cripple + immobalize cuz of trait)
The main thing is to keep the pressure on them and they will lose their kitten quick.
Now there is mostly 1 build which kitten up the world.
It’s the one where the mesmer stealth 8x more like a thief.
Teleport, evades, stealth for 24 hours, etc.
Well for that, no idea what to do. It’s just broken. And ANet will never remove stealth so they just pop clones and NPC will finish you. passive play ftw.
If youre only getting 600 hit eviscerates in pvp… it sounds like you arent wearing an amulet.

- Perma-vigor takes care of any window of opportunity you think you have after the second dodge roll.
- Mesmers go invis for 1/4 a second and de-target every time they spawn a clone or use a clone skill. Which means every single dodge roll when they take Deceptive Evasion (and they will take DE if they have half a brain).
- Good mesmers do not damage spike, they let their clones condi you to death while using skills that grant them invis outside the normal “revealed” mechanic.
- Players who build properly have a 24 second cooldown 900 range blink that breaks stun…don’t ask why it was OP for the ele to have it but not the mes.
The problem is that kite+condi is the best build right now since you sacrifice no defense for pure, unmitigated offense and soft CC. Mesmer is the king of kite+condi and its going to be hard to find a playable counter build that isn’t more of the same.
Just remember this: if it seems easy to beat a mes, especially on a war, you’re not playing against people who know the mes class well enough.
So much false information in the above post…..thanks, it made me giggle.
I’ve played a Mesmer for a while now so I can clearly tell which is which, but if you haven’t then I’d suggest kiting round an object. They are extremely easy to spot when you do this.
Stay in range, if you’re within their range you just go for the one that’s moving/attacking fastest.
I tried defiant stance against a Mesmer last night and that did the trick. If you work that into a rotation with your condi removal it works out nicely.

this is the only sensible piece of advice you should take in this thread. axe/horn lb destroys most pu+condi mesmers. you just have to make sure to dodge key phantasms and kill them as soon as they spawn.
