Musings of a new Warrior
The way he said it sums it yup. That’s why people think warriors are op. Because of pve. There are hardly any warriors except in a few grps in paid PvP. For dmg, thief can do better as well as get away easier. For defense well guardian and ele are better. I mainly don’t play warrior be because it is simple with its animations and very prddictable

Warriors offer no to little support to the group. a Guardian can play Tank, Damage and Support.
Warriors can only play Damage in WvW.. Their defense is terrible compared to other classes, and with the limited attack options, it makes no sense to have such a bad support.
At first I thought it was for balance, but when you see what other classes can do, it doesnt make sense. Warrior I believe was gimp like this because of stereotypes of the class being the archtype that it is. aka DnD fighter. its terrible in a game like this.
also the mobile locking skills for a class that is melee focused, and in a game which mobile combat is everything. very bad design.
Haha it is a rough to earn a living out in wvw. Maining my warrior is a labor of love =)
In SPvP I wouldn’t play a warrior, in WvW its still one of my favorite classes to play. If you are finding you are having a hard time revise how you play.

Warrior is by far the best class for soloing objectives in wvw.
Also, wvw is filled with low-skilled players against which… warrior shines.
It is pretty viable to be honest. Don’t underestimate it.
I only had to watch 2 seconds to come back and post this. I don’t think he is referring to rolling around with the LoD hammer train. That is a situation few few few GW2 players will ever have the opportunity to experience. Those warriors are also backed up by their guildies. They aren’t rolling around unsupported.
If you are trying to WvW solo you should probably play a thief or maybe a shatter mesmer. Classes excel differently in different areas of WvW. It’s one of those things and find the niche where you can play the class you want to play or find a class to fill the niche you want. Don’t complain when your soup spoon isn’t a better shovel when you try to dig a hole with it.

Good point. So, play a hammer CC warrior or reroll.
@OP I play Axe/Shield/LB and roam with a tanky mesmer. It’s rough sometimes but it can be done. Don’t forget the game is still young. Balance is still being worked out. A month ago everyone played BS thieves. Now it’s D/D eles, venom thieves, and mesmers. Just stick with what you like and let the devs work out the rest. They’ll get it right.
Actually I personally play axe/mace or axe shield and do fine. Hammer build is just one example where warrior shines.

I only took issue with this statement. The guy comes in here venting about an issue which is pretty legitimate and you say that ^^^. That is basically a polite way to say L2P, and you didn’t offer any help or advice; just snubbed your nose at him. Then you throw up a video based around a niche build in a niche guild as if it means something to more than a small percentage of the warrior community. Lots of guys come to these forums looking for help and they don’t have time to devote to a hardcore guild like LoD, nor do they want to play stun-bot in a PuG zerg. Does that mean they are wrong? No it doesn’t.

GOJIRA!!!!
+1 for music choice.
But I agree with what the other poster said, your video shows a bunch of warriors being babysat. That’s not the position most players will find themselves in. EVER. Also the fact that warriors require babysitters is the issue with warriors in the first place.

We want the Warrior to be capable of good melee damage in a sturdy body. They can still do some decent damage at range, but they aren’t as good at it as the Ranger (with their pet). They have a hard time taking enemy boons down, and instead, have to just go through them with raw force. They may have a hard time with enemy conditions, and may need to ask for ally help in order to keep themselves free of hampering conditions.

Warriors, as stated by developers are meant for group work. If you are trying to play warrior solo it will not work as well. Yes the LoD hammer build requires other classes to support or “babysit” them, but that is team dynamics. WvW is not about the individual but about groups. Whether you are working with a zerg or with a party, the group aspect is the key. I know that is not viable for everyone and disliked by some, if you are one of these people look at playing a more solo class.

Except no other class has in it’s ‘description’ (that came out long AFTER the game launched btw) that it requires babysitting. To put it mildly it’s insulting. To be blunt it’s rekittentarded and lame.

Don’t get me wrong, after playing the warrior I like it and it shines in large group support and in pve but sadly I prefer working in wvwvw small groups/alone which works fine until you come up against a Guardian/Mesmer etc…
If they are bad you can win easily, but if they are played average/well then you have little chance with no escape route ( a well played Guardian will sit there laughing as you hit on him while wearing down your health)
I guess just not my play style – which is sad but all a learning experience :-)

I have to disagree. I play a support Warrior in WvW and feel very useful between traited banners, my warhorn traited to turn conditions into boons, and being able to soak a lot of damage while I help downed players.
the big main problem i see with warriors is that a lot of people try to use the same weapons, traits and gear that they use in PvE for WvW
i know its not what you really want to hear, but to play a warrior effectively in WvW you maybe need to reevaluate how you have been playing and alter it to account for human targets.
In WvW if you want to win as a warrior, you need to find your individual strength, and know how to press your advantage.
Every class is equally “viable” in wvw, as part of a zerg. Obviously some classes bring some pretty unique tricks to the table. Mesmer portal. Ele swirling winds. Theif yak ganking. But warriors are far from bad in wvw. Longbow is a strong tool for area pressure when fighting in the open and in tower/keep seiging. And building up adren to crack off huge killshots at 1500 range also helps in those group fights. Plus you are just as potent in melee as you are in pve/spvp. Just be aware of your limitations.

I had fun playing sPvP with a bunker warrior (read PVT).
Though the n°1 rule is to never be alone. Ever.
And rules n°2 and 3 are to never be alone too.
Just be a pain in the kitten for the others and let people that can damage do their job.
And I left bus VS bus a long time ago, it’s all but fun, except roaming.

Complaining about your effectiveness while rolling around unsupported is a crap excuse anyway. That can and will make any class of minimal value in WvW.

That doesn’t change the fact warriors suffer from survivability issues or damage issues depending on which way you build. The reason they work in zergs is because they are able to disengage from combat. However, so can any other class in that situation. Put them in smaller scale stuff and they become much less effective if they are running a balanced build.

Well, the engineer has its extreme “versatility” in its class description. Ask one sometime how that versatility is working out for them =)

Hell I’ll back up an engi any day when they talk about being kittened over in class balance. ALTHOUGH, and this doesn’t excuse the first part, I do have an engi myself and the potential for amazingness is there in spades if ANet would ever fix half the issues with the class.

I am level 76 in WvW and I am finding my warrior is very powerful. I kill heaps of people – I prefer my “oh sh..” buttons (Shadow Refuge, Shadow Step, Blinding Powder) from my thief but warrior is pretty good. I took 20 badges last night in a couple of hours and I’m not even using proper gear (level 65-70 greens with no runes or sigils).
