So I started a warrior a couple weeks back in order to play with my friends. I’m looking fora build that can deal damage but can survive more than a few hits. Currently I’m using GS/Rifle as my weapon combo and I plan to roll 20/0/30/20 for my traits, but I could use some guidance on this.

Hmmm I’d say if you’re looking for tanky support, get 10/0/30/30/0 just so you get either healing shouts or banners. You’d definitely want PVT armor and then if you wanna be more tanky get knights trinkets otherwise zerker trinkets.

Warriors are not tanky, reroll to a Guardian. We have support.

until you’re lvl 80, having a signet build will make you tanky for the moment.

x/x/15/x/10

Those numbers represent the minimum on them to take advantage of signets. with your weapon spec.

When you’re 80, x/x/30/x/20 – will make you tanky too. But if you’re goal is to be a combat healer x/x/15/30/20 20 is for mobile strikes; so you can escape getting ganked. 15 is for skill II, very nice for adding toughness when you are being slowed.

Anyway, ask this question again when you’re lvl 80. ^.^

That’s foolish.

I do well being frontline control, first in last out, in both classes.

For both I am using 20/0/30/20/0, Hammer on both.
My Warrior uses a rifle as off weapon (considering longbow, need to test this).
My Guardian uses a sceptor/focus as off weapon.

For the last day I’ve been playing around with various other warrior weapons, and enjoying mac/shield as well – mostly because its so different from my usual comfort zone of Hammer and building the mace and shield made it easy for me to get my weaponsmithing from 375 to 400 with only one insignia (knights).

Both of these classes can do ‘tanky’ very well. Both can also do a lot of heavy damage output. I like them both, and the subtle differences in how they play. If a person wants to do either one – they can.

I recommend making sure all your gear has toughness. The other stats can vary depending on your build, but at least some toughness. Make your chest Knights, for the 105 toughness from having it the primary on the item with the biggest bonus.

My Guardian is all about condition damage (fire), my warrior is all about heavy direct hitting – and the gear of each varies accordingly.

That is far from foolish; in fact, it is the truth. If you want to tank Guardians can tank several times over the amount a Warrior could dream of tanking. Warriors have almost zero ways to sustain themselves once in combat and must retreat to the back for cool downs/healing. A Guardian can stand in the front for days without worry of turning up dead unless there are 25+ hitting him. It only takes two people pressuring a Warrior for around 10 seconds to kill him. There is a vast difference between the survival of the Guardian and Warrior and I will say this one last time: Guardian comes out ahead by miles.

The topic isn’t about guardians but warriors guys. Keep it to the topic. Else, there is always the guardian thread.

I guess my Warrior is really my second guardian then and I had no clue I was leveling a guardian. I must have some special elite skill that lets her use rifle, or a rifle skin applied to my scepter.

Wow, the things I can learn on forums.

Never knew my character wasn’t actually a warrior. TY for school’n me on what class I’ve been playing for my Charr since launch.

Agreed, keep the Guardian talk in the Guardian section.
0/0/30/30/10 is a very tanky build for WvWvW.
Shout heals + traited hammer = a lot of havoc and a lot of survivability.
Soldier runes for amazing condition removal not 4 other people as well.

With 30% boon duration, you should easily maintain perma-swiftness w/ warhorn + SoR when moving with the Zerg

0/10/30/30/0 could also work – w/ 10 on skill iv – adds 50 percent crit to stunned upponents. ;3 works well w/ hammer.

For open world PvE the warrior can tank. Unfortunately you won’t need your friends for dps.

Thanks for the input guys, just wanted to clear up a couple things.
1. I’m using the build for PvE (mostly dungeons)
2. I’m not looking for a Guardian-style never takes damage tank, just something that can take more punishment than usual while still doing melee dps (My friends have healing and long-range covered, but they’re all glass cannons)

Oh if you’re looking for PvE, google a build called sonic boon. I think that one fits perfectly for what am you are looking for.

You dont have a warhorn or mobile strikes. First one in maybe, but you’re not going anywhere without one of those in the mix sorry.
