Guild Wars 2

I just made it to 80 on my warrior. I have limited play time and want to focus on PVE and some WvW. I am not super hardcore and play for fun. I ask questions a lot and people are over all helpful. But, people use a lot of acronyms and short hand, or “use the wiki”. These are helpful to an extent.

But can someone in plain english tell me the “best” gear i can get right now?

I bought all the beserker gear from badges of honor and the great sword. I have a yellow beserker ring and a random trash ring. I have a yellow beserker amulet as well. I have plenty of karma (about 500k) and another 4k badges. I am saving for the golden title (171g) before i spend, but then i planned on crafting.

Any help of a link to where i can find Guild Wars for dummies would be much appreciated.

You’re going to be using two different sets of armor for WvW and PvE. If you’re doing primarily PvE, you’re going to want to invest in Berserker’s armor (or knight’s to start w/) and it can be obtained for free w/ dungeon tokens: Citadel of Flame, Crucible of Eternity and The Ruined City of Arah. The trinkets and rings can be obtained for free from guild missions/laurels/pristine fractal relics, and the back pieces can be crafted (for a bunch of cash) or obtained from fractals.

WvW armor (forgive me, but I think that soldier’s is the meta for that, but if I’m wrong, someone please correct me), can also be obtained for free from dungeon tokens: Ascalonian Catacombs, Sorrow’s Embrace and Honor of the Waves Dungeons. Tokens and rings can be obtained the same way.

Your weapons should be berserker as well, for both game modes, and they can also be obtained for free from dungeon tokens (the same places I mentioned earlier)

Those weapons and armor aforementioned are all “exotic” quality. “Ascended” is better, but since you only have limited time, I would recommend going for exotic, as the grind for ascended is a long one.

Try to save your karma, as it’s harder to come by these days, and you may want to make a legendary in the future. Same w/ WvW tokens for “Gift of Battle” (also used in Legendary weapon forging), but you can get a discount on your trinkets using them.

Both Karma and badges are very easy to come by to a point where I make about 200k karma a week from WvW and casual PvE, and I don’t think that making a legendary is very relevant atm to a casual player who just hit 80.

Personally, I play with half berserk/knight armor and knight trinkets with strength runes, this works for me on both PvE and WvW as I serve the same role in both (mightstack), It also works fine for solo play though I’d recommend Hoelbrak runes as they’re cheaper and make you a bit tankier. Don’t worry about Ascended gear yet, the difference between Asc and Exotic is hardly noticable.

This is a very, very good idea to do when learning to master PvE. Knights and slowly moving over to Berserker’s. I didn’t know that about the karma, and I’m quite jealous

Don’t put expensive runes on either karma or WvW gear. You can not salvage that gear to get the rune back, if you decide to swap the rune to another piece of armor.

So first either craft or buy your gear from the tp, then put the strength runes on them. Or, better yet, take Hoelbrak. Slightly less damage in PvE (who cares), but way more survivability in WvW.

Thanks everyone for the responses. It has been very informative. I just got Golden title so now I am going to start crafting. I believe weaponsmithing is first for me.

Don’t focus on crafting just yet. You only really need it for making ascended gear or legendaries, and you are too poor to start down those paths just yet.

Your focus right now should be joining a good pve guild and learning to do dungeon speed clears. That’s where the money is at.
