Hey guys! I’m fairly new to warrior, but not by any means new to the game. I’ve played since launch with a couple breaks that amount in total to about 6 months down time. Anyways, I’m rank 49 in sPvP and I main Ele. I’ve faffed about on thief and Mesmer from time to time, but only briefly tried warrior in the past.

Yesterday I tried creating a warrior and found it insanely fun! There is just one problem. I love, love, love Rifle warrior! Without the rifle, I’d probably change to a different class. (It’s not that rifle is the only thing I love about warrior. I just simply love the rifle warrior play style.)

So my question is, is there a single viable build out there for WvW roaming or perhaps SPvP that will allow me to kick butt with a rifle? I don’t mind what other weapon I use, as long as rifle is the main deal. And I’m not looking for a “top” build or anything. I just want something that can be done. If there isn’t anything, I suppose I can begin the long road to crafting a build myself, but I would really appreciate any head starts, tips, or even a full fledged rifle warrior build that anyone has to offer.

Thanks in advance!
-MM

This is that new sound. Ya’ll ain’t ready.

With a riffle you can play in www using rifle trait and cleansing ire trait to increase quickly your adrenaline with multiple hit in the zerg, then take out your traited rifle and press F1, killing a lot of enemy in the line (traited rifle pierce targets!). But I’ve never try it.
With rifle as main weapon is hard to play in spvp because you need time to cast your F1 skill and it’s easy to block/blind/evade. But in www if you use stability no one can stop you or see you use it then no one can evade it ;…;

Rifle isn’t the best weapon for spvp, but you can try to make a build by your self, just for fun.

In www you can obtain better results.

There’s basically two standards I’d say. Either mace/x and rifle and unsuspecting foe for killshot reking, making your mace stun last as long as possible with sigils and stuff and baiting stunbreakers. This is good because it has ton’s of single target CC with 3 on mace/shield for example or mace/mace and 1 on rifle, awesome dueling build if you can pull it off. The CD on the combo is really short. Downside is no mobility. Would probably work pretty good in sPvp. You don’t want to use your elite signet as you get 110% crit chance with your rifle volley if you have stunned them. It gives you adrenaline passivly which is what you want. An example:

The other would be to make range with GS/rifle. Basically run away and fire your rifle at them. Not much more to it.

The only way I found rifle to work in wvw other then dueling or zerging, is with 04604. Take IV and X in arms, II, IX and XI in defense and III and VIII in discipline. You will want to be as zerky as possible. On your rifle, take sigils of air and fire, gs is debatable. I think I used bloodlust and battle, but energy and hydromancy are great too. Runes of hoelbrak and -condi duration food. Balanced stance, endure pain and bulls/zerk stance. Can also use FGJ for on demand fury and more might. In my vid I actually used Fear Me, but that is unreliable and trollish.

This build is actually pretty decent in 1v1. In 1v2 it is weak though, as you have little active defense. Try to take out one guy quickly, then kite with GS to regain health. On this spec, NEVER use gs#5 to close a gap unless your target is running, you have 1200 range on rifle for that.

When i first made my warrior i also loved the rifle and still do, sadly it is a very niche weapon. Can have a lot of fun though.

I only state my opinion unless stated otherwise.

I always rage but never quit.

Regarding PvP, you need some other tools in order to put the rifle to use.

1st: if your rifle is of rare or exotic quality, I’d recommend getting a Black Lion Salvage Kit. If not, then any other kit will do.

2nd: double-click the kit and then click your weapon. If you’re lucky, you just made some profit in the form of ectoplasm!

3rd (optional) Alternatively, you can gamble in the mystic forge with it.

But for combat, it’s worthless, don’t touch it. Worst warrior weapon by far.

Hello,

The rifle is a ranged weapon, which can now only be played in a physical damage perspective. As a result, I think it works best when complemented with:

  • Utilities restraining the opponent’s mobility (cripple, immobilization, chill, fear…), in order to keep firing without being bothered too much, possibly using the rifle’s burst,
  • Weapons providing good mobility (in order to achieve superior positioning), and good melee damage (so that the utilities mentioned above can also be used for melee combat). All in all, this means a greatsword or a sword.

One of the most used approach, I believe, is the sniper’s role: you maximize the damage output, disregarding anything else (such as condition management), and use positioning to fire bullets during group fights (like WvW skirmishes), where you’re unlikely to be discovered. This is an extremely unbalanced build, to be used in a specific set of situations.

Another approach seeks to form synergies between Leg Specialist and Opportunist, working a bit like condition rangers in the game play. It allows for more balanced builds, yet still dangerous to play (because very squishy and vulnerable to conditions).

Now, the warrior has some traits which work very well in power builds, whatever the weapons used. I believe that using these traits, not trying to gain specific advantage from the rifle, can probably work best.

I’ve tried the above build yesterday. 1v1s were fairly easy to win (but it was hotjoin), but 1vX were pretty much impossible to manage, as well as node holding/contesting. The build is biased with personal preferences:

  • Sword / Axe for its good mobility, soft control and damage,
  • Rousing Resilience for increased sustain during fights (it works each time one activates the Balanced Stance – although I usually like to equip it along with another stun breaker, such as Endure Pain or Shake It Off),
  • Fear Me, to push opponents away from you (working in many situations), and possibly prepare for a rifle burst.
  • Cleansing Ire + Brawler’s Recovery, for a no-brain automatic condition management.

In my opinion, the rifle can give lots of enjoyable fights, but is restricted to particular situations – the frequency of which being unfortunately low enough to raise the question of its overall usefulness.

HTH.

it’s 100% viable as a roaming weapon in wvw paired with a GS possibly, anywhere else i wouldn’t bother.
