Norm or human warrior?
I can tell you how I made my choice.
As a human you are smaller and harder to find, focus and target. As a norn you are bigger. So if you want to be tank warrior that everyone wants to hit, be a norn. Otherwise be a human
Right now I play human warrior focused on dps but my next character is huge norn tank guardian.
That is a very good reason I suppose.
Thanks
that would not apply in PVE would it?
No it wouldnt, but if you roll a norn and decide @ level 50 you want to start spvp you will find it very hard to hide, run, land long animated hits. And then you will want to reroll to something smaller….like i did (but i was only level 35 in pve )
Weapon X, please explain how you can hide in sPvP at all with text floating above your head? Why do you say Norns run slower? What makes you think the Norn animations are slower?
I find it very hard to believe ANet would have racial differences like that when race specific skills aren’t enabled in sPvP.
The Norn don’t run slower nor have slower attack animations. They do have slower running animation to make up for their size (one step for them is nearly 2 steps for a human). All races run the same speed but the larger they are, the slower their movement animations will be. He never said that the Norn have slower animations. They are just way more noticeable. Meaning it will be harder to complete skills that have a longer casting time (long animated hits).
Norn aren’t any slower, just far easier to read. A larger target makes larger animations and thus is easier to see what they’re doing, which way they’re facing, what kind of weapon they’re holding. Playing as a larger race also make it harder to see around you, since you have to zoom out more just so your character is not taking up half your screen and so you can even see what’s directly in front of you. Most things you fight in game will be smaller than you and hence harder for you to see what they’re doing unless you’re constantly adjusting your camera.
Similarly, a smaller target hides more easily in the chaos of things. Asura characters are very hard to read what they’re doing, hence harder to counter their moves properly. They can also hide under other character bodies or just get lost in the chaos of splashy animations when there is a bunch of people fighting over a node in sPvP or even worse in WvW. If the game had cast bars telling what someone is casting like every other MMO, this wouldn’t be a blatant PVP advantage.
Predicting abilities by reading avatar animations may sound like a great idea in theory, but in reality is a terrible design. It forces anyone who wants to be competitive in PVP to roll an Asura.
I like female Norns. I also make them the smallest you can…. They are basically slightly bigger humans then… It works out well.
I’ll make one suggestion, if you plan on making a female, make it Norn. As a Human female Warrior, I regret not just remaking her a fifth time, due to using 2h weapons as a human female, you make this awful squeaking noise with every single swing. It’s the most unbearable, horrific, stupid, nonsense noise I’ve ever heard in a game, especially when it’s dealing with swinging giant 2handed weapons. I have my warrior to 80, and I flat refuse to use Hammer and Greatsword just because of the terrible noise, even though they are great weapon options. That’s my 2 cents.
I picked a Norn and i would pick any other race except maybe Charr.
My Norn is not totally huge, he is the shortest but well over 2 heads from the tallest human. Armor looks GOOD.

CHARR!! for………..nevermind choose Norn.
Asura, for novelty and concealment.
The norn have maybe the best looking heavy armor ingame, only avaib. to them

Goodandy summed it up for me….l2read dude. I’ve been playing a norn warr since beta and i can tell you there is a night and day differance between an Asura and a Norn.
Now this might not be the case for a caster but i would still think that anything that isnt insta cast will have a distinct animation and will be easily dodgable.
I have a Norn gs guardian and i get top player quite a bit so size cant really be that much of an issue. The human GS / Hammer grunt sounds as female are annoying as 2 cats fighting outside your window at 3 in the morning every night for a year.
I hope it gets changed, it kind of sounds like they are little girls falling down or something with each swing. I say just make one of each, look at the cultral gear, look at how the other gear is on each character then make your decision. I dont think size really plays that big of a role to make it so you are countered more easily, i just force people to use their 2 dodges quite fast then unload on them as a norn.
Have you ever played an MMO before Faranox? Smaller characters are always at an advantage in pvp. They’re just harder to see. It even matters some for spellcasters. In GW2 it matters less than in other MMOs but it still matters.
