Norn warrior, easily dodged\countered
Kinda, quite many tPvPers prefer Azura because they are small. Honestly, it does give small edge, but meh. Problem with warrior class is that its very very easy to predict what is he going to do next.
Agreed, but being norn doesnt really help either…my hammer might as well have landing strip lights on it.
O_o dah hell, I have fought asuras and norns and don’t see any difference at all.
Other than personal will to destroy asuras I really don’t see anything special in their size, nor on the large size charr or norn.
It’s more the class than it is the race

Initially, it may seem Asura is harder to target, hard to read but eventually you’ll get used to it. The only thing about being a Norn is you become the most visible person on the field.
Same with the charr :’<
Hammers do have a pretty slow animation I think. Being large would make it easier to see, but I think the weapon itself is probably most of what you’re experiencing.
Learn to play a strong mix up game and wait for your foes to slip up. I feel that a lot of warriors (and players in general) are rooted in the old habits of ‘press keys x,y,z to win’.
Norn are big and hammer attacks are slow. Both of those factors increase the propensity to be dodged or blocked in PvP. Try a different weapon before rerolling. You don’t have to run a hammer build do you?
It makes no kitten difference.
Against any player with a quarter of a brain, size will not make a difference.
I’d don’t believe physical aspects are factored into the physics of the character. As in, a Norn should by nature of it’s size, conditioning, and muscle mass have a greater reach, greater jumping distances, and faster terrain speed coverage. But, none of that appears to take place. This was in fact truly disappointing to me. Honestly, if a Norn were to kick a lil Asura, they should be able to punt that sucker 2400 units easily!!! Am I right or what??
In the end, it seems we Norn just ended up being visibly huge targets on the battle field to spot and attack. All the downsides and none or the benefits…. Heck, combat in close quarters, you can’t even get the camera angle down to see a lil critter or Asura nipping at your heals. Rotation speed is abysmal to say the least too…. #NornNerfed
@ Kyle, i completly agree.
@Num, i already do that. but you can only fake someone out so much if they know the class. If i were a Asura war they wouldnt be able to tell the differance in my #1 auto attack and my #5 smash your face in skill. But as of right now i am the most visable target on the battlefield with no clear advatages…kinda like kyle said.
I’m just saying, i’ve been playing a Norn Warr since launch and have pretty good situational awarness. And last night i was in a tourny, there was another warr on the other team, he was asura and i got dropped fighting at Keep, i didnt even know what hit me, i looked at the combat log and i ate a full 100b. i looked up to find the warr while i was down….sure enough he was hopping around like a god kitten bunny on meth. If we were to switch places, there is no way someone would have ate my 100b because they would see my big house sized kitten running to drop the bomb.
I’m not saying that in some random WvW situation where you get to fight someone 1v1 and you can pay attention to everything they are doing. I’m talking more about encounters where you have the element of suprise or a terrain advantage….its hard to hide a norn behind anything except a mountain.
Once you get used to camera angles and a lot of fighting you will see what you need to see out of the asura. It takes a little longer to get used to stuff like that but experience goes a long way

This may be true in a more realistic situation but in game it doesn’t fit because then everyone would be rolling a norn warrior due to their size affecting their speed and damage output. People will alwasy min/max, expecially people who are serious about competition. All races run the same speed making Norn look like they run slow because they would be at an advantage if they were faster. Anet doesn’t want the burden of attempting to balance something like that. People would cry harder than they already do about balance.
The only real advantage of Asura is being able to hide inside your Charr and Norn melee allies/enemies in order to do your key abilities. But really it makes very little difference in most cases as warriors are very predictable…
There was some testing done on the guardian boards with regards to character size and there was some evidence suggesting that “melee assist” option caused issues but when turned off there was no difference.
Tarnished Coast
What bothers me about my fat norn size is that I have many trouble hiding in case of need (ambush at a capture point, runnig away from enemies, …). Animations aren’t a big deal.
Anyway I made a big fat norn cause I wanted to be targeted before my team mates. Then game came out and I realized warriors aren’’t so good at tanking and they better go full dps roamers with much better results.
They’re all the same speed, but being smaller gives the illusion that you’re faster. so in a way it gives you a slight edge through the illusion.
I personally regret rolling a Norn warrior tbh. I always get mostly killed by asura characters. There is definitely a difference. Some of you say the speed and dodging is the same, but that is not true, I can never catch an asura character, even with speed buffs and using skills to jump at them. Anyone care to explain that? Also, they seem able to hit me from further away using melee weapons than I am able to hit them at the same distance. Since we are bigger, there is more of “us” available as target, and since asuras are so small, it is much harder to hit them. Fact is, most of the hard core players have gone to asura (check wvw out) and this is clearly unbalanced. How the heck can asura characters consistently knock me down all the time? So, ANet doesn’t want to fix this issue, so instead of people rolling Norn warriors, ALL OF US are going to end up playing as asuras. Is that what they want? There should be trade offs imo. They dodge and jump around a lot easier than all the other races, they should not be as strong as the rest of the races, simply put. Can anyone imagine a gerbil or a hamster knocking down the heavyweight boxing champion of the world? hahaha… Honestly this is broken and I can’t start a new character now as I put too much time into my Norn Warrior.
Its broken because of the hit box. Its the same across all races, but based off of the smallest one.
I rerolled a Asura Warr and after playing with it…i’m deleting my Norn, and i willl prolly never roll with norn again. If you are serious about tPvP then the only time i would play as a norn would be for a bunker class, since you want to be the most visiable..
There were multiple cases last night where i dropped 100b on people and they didnt even know what was going on. I was at keep and was masked by AoE’s and other players. Just like i explained in my OP.
/Nerf race size
PvP is almost never 1v1. When you get two or three characters in close proximity, spotting everything that an asura is doing isn’t as easy as spotting everything a norn is doing.
If you like norn and want to play a norn, fine. There’s nothing wrong with that but denying the fact that it is more difficult to see things that are smaller is silly. Bigger characters are just easier to spot quicker with fewer camera adjustments. And hammer, with it’s long animation times, is the weapon which most exemplifies this reality.
Two words: tab targetting.
Common sense, of coarse size matters. Tab targeting regardless, you have a small target and a large target running around hiding in the scenery one is going to be easier to see. If you rolled a Norn bear it up, and understand you will be very popular on the battle field, your enemies will delight in watching your big chunk kitten bite the dust.
i play a norn warrior and my biggest problem isnt pvp its kitten jumping puzzles…. i cant see around myself. if anet could add like a way to fade your character a little so we could see through them that would be great thats the only thing i think is unfair (screen space) other than that i want you to see me, im not a theif im a warrior. i want you to know exactly who killed you.
proud to be Norn

Targeting has nothing to do with it, it’s about seeing.

Yeah my guardian is a norn and I hated trying to do jumping puzzles on him. If you’re a tank and you’re playing PvP as a tank, being a Norn can be a huge advantage for your teammates. It means you are a bit more likely to be targeted while nearby squishies are less likely to be. Being big has its uses.
press tab….lol discussion over
Being asuran does help. Its not about targeting, but its about visual cues and recognizing what attack is about to come up. This is the difference between dodging, say a random auto attack, and dodging…… backbreaker.
I’m a norn warrior myself, so i feel your pain. Every ability on a norn warrior is painfully obvious. That being said, its the price i’m willing to pay to not look like a weird alien/rat midget. I’d definitely roll asura for other classes though where looking like a kitten isn’t as important to me.
^^^ that is soo true
if you have trouble hiding for a ambush .. use the /sleep emote. you will lie down and stay there until you move
I agree with WhysoSully.
I hate jumping puzzles on my Norn Warrior. It feels like every time I get into a puzzle, the camera gets so tight that I go into first person view and the camera starts jumping like its trying to get out of the corner.
More than once I thought of just giving up and re-rolling because of all the tight spaces I was forced into. If I knew at the beginning of the game there were so many confined spaces/jumping puzzles I would have never rolled a character that takes up so much screen real estate.
They all have the same hit box, but you should make a charr warrior on another thread people concluded that charr have better racial spell for the class (battle roar/hidden pistol)
With all the crazy conspiracy theories on the forums, ANet needs to add a tinfoil hat to the store.

Nah, Norns would probably look horrible in it and it would start a whole new thread.
Jumping puzzles are terrible on Norn, Though in WvW I can lead a push, everyone see’s that giant norn push into the zerg they follow. Lead by example
[FIRE] Serene Snow, Warrior
Jumping puzzles are worse on a charr. They’re the same size, but the awkward sideways running animation (when in combat) or four-footed running makes small ledges horrible.
Doing the PVP jump puzzle on a human was ridiculously easy after charring it for so long.
Asura is def an advantage for PVP. Reading asura animations is much harder than reading norn or charr animations.
