Recently I’ve been cringing to do some sPvP, mostly because the people in it don’t know what communication is, or that capping points takes priority over getting kills. But in most tourneys I find at least one poor clueless warrior who pop frenzy, his bolas, his charge, and his tons of blades, and hopes to get a kill on somebody who doesn’t know what stun breakers or blocks are. They don’t even know what switching weapons is, and they chase you around with their greatsword, even while snared they swing it at you without the thought of a ranged weapon crossing their minds. My question is, why are there so many hopeless one trick pony warriors in sPvP, or in general really? It’s simply a FOO strategy that people hold onto and don’t let go of.

Because melee is pretty much our only option? In any persistent ranged battle we will lose everytime, we have no evades on them, best we can do is try to deal some damage with the rifle or lockdown with the bow before we go in for the kill with axe or GS. I’ve had most of my success when I run two melee sets and rely on Leg Specialist to keep on top of them, but any half decent thief/ranger/mes will just kite me into the ground with their ridiculously defensive ranged weapons.

Probably because, to some extent, their tactics work. They’re very poor tactics, but (if you know anything about chess, I’ll be going off on a slight tangent) so is the so-called “Scholar’s Mate” in chess. They work against very new, nooby players, but eventually not only do they not work, they actually create a disadvantage for the players that run them.

But hey, look on the bright side. As long as warrs like that are around, we might as well label them “Free Kills”.

Like dolan said you are either melee (our best option) or you are ranged. We do range well because we do alot of damage. The problem is as soon as someone is in your face and you have a bow or rifle out you can be hurting. Especially if you miss with Bow 5.

Everyone plays a specific build in sPvP for every profession there are optimal builds pretty much. So if you aren’t running that then your kitten basically. The rotations for those aren’t complex so while other classes can run those builds and they work. Warrior is kind of stuck running their best build that doesn’t do much.

^ not a fan of people using acronyms that already have a more popular meaning. Thank you for clarifying that you didn’t mean signet warriors should be used in FRACTALS OF THE MISTS.

About taking points taking priority, actually, that’s only partially true.
The point system is balanced around 5v5, meaning, with 5 players on the map, taking points, objectives, etc. is worth far more than kills.
In Hotjoins, you can have pretty much everything.
In 2v2, 3v3 etc. Trying to kill other players is pointless while on full servers just going for kills will typically grant you far more points as there are so many players, the amount of kills will make the point tally skyrocket.
Especially cause in Hotjoins there’s loads of glass canons around. Quick kills, quick deaths.

Entirely fictional numbers:
Tournament -5v5: ~20% of total points from kills, rest from objectives
Hotjoin -5v5: ~33% of total points from kills(less bunkers, lower skill), rest from objectives
Hotjoin, 8v8: ~50% of total points from kills

I don’t know exact numbers and the example here is strongly exaggerated(I’d say, it’s actually more like 33% in 8v8) but I think, you get the point.
The more players die and the faster they die, the lower the benefit from capping points.

About warriors: It’s not exactly one trick.
It’s more like 3 trick.
Warriors are either some sort of ranged glasscanon specced for killshot, some facetank burster with GS or Axe or some chain stunner with either mace/shield or hammer.
There isn’t much around besides that and honestly, countering them is pretty much all the same.
(I’d really like to see someone spec his warrior for condition bunker, just for the hell of it)

The only crime, turrets committed, is being good against the celestial meta.
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.

Flavor of the Month has been in use way longer than Fractals, but yah that currently is the more popular use. Flavor would be the main use if not for S and TPvP being generally terrible.

Or people could be less lazy. I understand why Flavor of The Month has an acronym, but you could just call fractals…. “Fractals”, unless 4 more letters of text is too hard for this generation.

To be slightly on topic. Like someone said earlier for hotjoin pvp it’s not terribly horrible, though I’d still drop the idea of using frenzy (or kill me now as people have aptly suggested). It’s not like it matters that much at this point anyways, frenzy or not you won’t see warriors doing what little competitive pvp there is left, which is why most people are talking about pve or that zerging game mode more than anything else right now in our sub forum.
