Heya war friends!

I’ve tried some phalanx stuff but right now I’m not sure how it works the best. Everyone gets might when I hit with my GS, yet those stacks drop very fast when I swap to axe/mace. I’ve considered to stay on GS for the sake of my team, even though it’s a personal (!) dps loss.

So either I go 06062 and stay on GS with 100% crit chance on full zerk (GS sigils: +5% dmg / might on crit).
Or I go 05063 and swap between GS and axe/mace with a 100% crit chance (GS sigils: +7% crit / might on crit).

I’m really confused by the whole situation and my main questions are:

  • Shall I camp GS for might and have +5% dmg sigil?
  • Shall I swap GS and Axe/Mace with reduced CD on swap, but losing the +5% dmg sigil on GS?
  • Is the personal swap damage worth the team might damage? Vice versa.
  • If I camp GS, what 2nd weapon shall I take?

Hey.

If you are in full strength runes, you won’t need to do anything besides camp GS and use your signet elite + for great justice for might.

The reason 05063 is best is for PS is for a few reasons.

The first is that if you’re using a PS build, it’s under the assumption that you have 1-2 staff eles in the team. Despite the fact that you are going to be the primary source of might, staff eles can and do have two blast finishers to use every now and then (arcane wave + arcane brilliance) which will help with fury and might a little bit.

Because of this, there will in many cases be a large “waste” of might because you will frequently be at 25 might just by yourself. Having 6 points in the tactics line results in extremely long might duration, so whenever another class provides might as well it lasts longer for you. This opens up the opportunity to occasionally swap which can and is helpful for when vulnerability is lacking against bosses.

The second reason is that it allows for more comfortable play. Lacking fast hands is always obnoxious, especially when things beyond your control mess up your GS rotation. If you are camping GS, it’s assumed that the enemy isn’t moving around and that you aren’t being interrupted or forced to interrupt your rotation.

Ideally the best sigils on a GS for phalanx would be either force+night or force+slaying if applicable, but if you wanted an all-purpose PS greatsword then strength sigil would be an option to ensure that you absolutely never drop below 25 might, though in my opinion it’d be very very wasteful.

Your secondary weaponset should by default be axe/mace when in combat but if you need the extra block to stay alive, take sword. As for sigils… I suggest flat damage modifiers for these because you’re swapping back to GS as soon as possible anyways.

You should be frequently taking advantage of being ooc to swap offhands/weapons according to the situations.

Do you have rune of strenght? Because with it your might should last 10seconds which mean you will be able to switch to axe/mace, then switch back to GS before it expire.

GS have a higher personnal dps than axe/mace. Axe/mace give more vulnerability, which increase the total dps of the team.

You should definitively keep GS +Axe/Mace. You should be able to keep 25 stack of might and give vulnerability. If you can’t, then there is something you are doing wrong. You should only go GS camping if your party can have enough vulnerability on his own. For exemple, if you play with a nade engineer and 1 or 2 elementalists.

I this a min-max-question? It’s probably pretty hard to answer it without taking your team composition into consideration. Are you the only person granting Might?

Personally, I do not enjoy GS so I switched to Axe/WH with a Sigil of Might. Phalanx will work perfectly fine without Forceful Greatsword as long as you add in some other sources of Might (e.g. Shouts, Longbow when running Fast Hands, Fire Auras). I also like the extra support from the WH and the blast finisher is very handy.

You should swap and apply vulnerability w/ axe mace and use sigil of battle on that set bcuz that increases your groups dmg by 14% every time u do that. If ur group can maintain 25 stacks of vuln without u needing to do that than u should just camp GS.

Sigil of Strength on your Mace is going to be significantly better than Battle after Tuesday, for PS builds.

A PS build should follow the exact same rotation as the DPS build, which is why you have Fast Hands. stacking Vulnerability is just as important as Might, and if you don’t follow the normal rotation you’ll be costing your team around 6 vuln. 6 Vuln is worth about 8 stacks of Might, which is to say, extremely important.

If the engineer play nade properly and there is at least one other source of vulnerabiliy (Ele or Guardian for exemple) then yes.

If your team can stack 25 might (for exemple with S/X Ele), but can’t keep vulnerability then 6/5/0/0/3 with scholar and GS+Axe/Mace would be best.

If your team can stack 25 might and vulnerability, then 6/6/0/2/0 with scholar and camping GS. (But that will almost never happen).

But you don’t need to be that specific. You can simply play 0/5/0/6/3 with GS+Axe/mace. This will covert most situation. Its rare that pugs group can max out vulnerability.

And what would you suggest if I’m right now to poor to invest in strength runes? Or better – I run scholar for the time I retrait to 46060 / 65003. Instead of building a 2nd armor set – without strength runes I’m unable to sustain the might over the time I’m on my axe/mace. Or is there a way to improve? With strength 05063 and without 06062?
