i like how it is now. you dont have to be in a party to help someone out with a banner. or a conjured weapon if you’re an ele.

That’s a fair point and I agree, assuming people are trying to be helpful. But it just seems most people take the banner and go off and do their own things. Maybe if we could dismiss the banner at will (can we?) that would discourage people from “stealing” the banner.
Since the game is still relatively new people are just curious. In WvW I put down all my banners when I can, people like to pick them up and play with them, whatever. I think as people try them out they’ll be less inclined to pick them up and run around with them, as they already know what they do.
The only time my banners are picked up… its some random asura that immediately charges off into the distance with it, making it useless.
Party only, please.

mm I would be happy with Party only or Self only, its annoying when it gets taken and people run off with it, or when I want to pick it up and I gets taken.

I wish more people realized you could use a banner’s #5 skill as an extra blast finisher. For example, a mage can use it for an extra AOE heal with their water combo fields.
I think this is caused mainly because the loot key and pickup key are the same, I would love to see an option for different keybindings for :
-Loot
-Rez
-Finish
-Pickup
With the option of having the same keybind on multiple of them if you so choose. i.e. F for loot only, G for Rez/Finish and H for pickup.

I agree party only, I hate accidentally picking up someones banner trying to loot.

Half the problem is that the banners have a similar sparkle at the base that loot bags do. The other half of the problem is many people are just plain stupid and think running off with your 2-4 minute cooldown banner is both original and amusing.
Maybe when you deploy a banner, the skill on the bar should change to a “Summon Banner” skill that puts the banner back in your hands. It sure would make them far more useful and less prone to both accidental or intentional theft. As it stands they are close to impossible to use in WvW. You put it down and they will be half way across the map the next time you blink.

50 gems should buy you a skill called kill the banner holder with a cow…. just sayin.
On the opposite end, today I saw a banner, the tide had shifted and we were moving forward. I picked it up (i’m a ranger) and plopped it down at our new line. Then an asura came and ran with it to the hills….
I was annoyed and it wasn’t even my banner!
Not sure a good solution, but I would love to keybind loot to a different button.
Because of the nature of banners to be placed near combat (600 range radius), people pick them up “F” key only to realize they have the bundle much further away before it is discarded. Rarely do people intend to take it, use it or ‘steal’ it. I know I’ve been spamming “F” myself more than a few times and picked one up.
I think the best option is to have the warrior gain a secondary utility ability after the banner is placed or picked up by another player that recalls the banner back to the original warriors hands (“I Carry the Flag To The Grave!”). This would also give the banners some needed mobility/weapon functionality in conjunction with other weapon options.
