I can’t even get a straight answer to what Hambow is exactly from googling it. I get more or less what it is but I was hoping someone could show me (preferably from Gw2skills) what the meta for Hambow is.
I’m strictly a WvW roamer, currently using hammer alongside axe/shield, was wondering how well Hambow would perform in WvW in comparison.

warrior’s hammer longbow is good in sPvP due to conquest mode being the only game mode we have at the moment.
with longbow, you can cover the capture point (except for graveyard in legacy of foefire) with longbow burst skill combustion shot, creating a fire field, drop an arcing arrow for 3 stacks of area might via blast finisher, swap to hammer for another blast finisher via hammer burst skill earthshaker for another 3 stacks of area might.
longbow offers suppression and condition damage
hammer offers crowd control
however, if you are strictly a WvW roamer only, warrior’s hammer and longbow may not offer you a lot of escape options should you encounter an opponent that you cannot defeat.

Hambow = hammer + Long bow , is not going to work in WvW.
you need mobility, hambow is as slow as a turtle, its only viable in just one part of the game “capture point PvP”.
I don’t run hambow in wvw but I do run longbow but no mobility weapons such as sword/horn/greatsword. I still do fine outside pvp but then again I roam a lot with someone else so mobility through swiftness is supplied. Though I do roam solo and the base swiftness is fine for me.

well, it would work as long as the warrior can put down his opponents before their reinforcement comes.
there are very little escape options for hambow in WvW.
if the warrior has at least 1 bar of adrenaline, earthshaker leap of 500 – 600 range every 7 – 10 seconds is possible as a last resort escape option.

and why would the enemy stand in melee range of a hambow in WvW ?
in PvP it works because there is a point to capture or defend, even in a roaming group other sets are far better than a hambow.
This is what I use when roaming. It’s basically Hambow, but tweaked for WvW roaming (ie replaced Longbow with GS).
Key points:
- Leg Specialist trait because you don’t have a 5 second root from Longbow.
- If you can afford Lemongrass, use it instead of Saffron. I only use it because it’s dirt cheap.
- Yep, all Zerker, except for Melandru runes. I used to run full Soldiers but I gradually weaned myself off it; Healing Signet + Melandru runes + Defense trait stats = very survivable.
- Fight mostly in Hammer, use GS for escapes/chasing/hitting HB on newbs who actually fall for it. Fire and Air sigils = unexpected burst
- 3rd utility skill is your call; I usually do either Bull’s Charge or Endure Pain. Sometimes I use Fear Me if I do EoTM and I’m in an area where people can fall off and die easily.
