Hello fellow warriors,

I play a warrior as my exclusive character due to my limited time and enjoying it quite a bit. There are some concerns of course like with all those broken traits and uncertain effects, like our survivability in WvWvW, like our usefullness in tPvP and so on. There are quite a few bugs that need to be addressed, but all in all it is an interesting class to play.

Currently I am running my own version of a sword-warhorn(mace)/rifle build, with rifle being my main weapon and the off-set as means to apply melee presure on squishy targets. I do fine, win some, loose not too many and in the open field in zerg situations I completely destroy single targets, which I pick rather carefully.

Now, in 1on1 or controlled group situations I realy miss the gimmicks, that other classes have. We apply damage and have some minor perks (healing shouts, which btw are amazing in siege scenarios), but thats it.

So my proposal: make a change so we can actualy use the warhorn as a primary weapon too. The warhorn itself has damage stats, so why not use it this way too? My vision is a GW2 version of the “singing barbarian” from D2.

The #1 chain could be a melee attack chain with some boon negation effect (DPS wise it could be as good as mace’s)
The #2 ability could be a melee hit with semi-short boon(s) steal (if no boons on target, apply random boon(s) that expires before you can use the skill again to prevent boon stacking) and apply-it-to-friendlies-in-range gimmick.
The #3 ability could be a melee hit with aoe chill (mighty roar that freezes enemies in 600 aoe range for 1 sec).
The #4 and 5# abilities I quite enjoy, so leave them be.

This way you have an offensive supporter (as opposite to the defensive supporter like the guardian) that is capable of dealing somewhat good DPS and capable of applying control/disable opponents in the front lines (or support the ranged teammates via weapon swap and ranged weapon).

I guess I’m not sure I understand your intended goal here. You mention offensive support, but as things stand I feel like you can actually accomplish this by going sword/warhorn, or my preferred combo, axe/warhorn.

As someone who has used warhorn as their main weapon slot since around level 15, I feel like it adds massive support. I wrote a post on why I think it’s pretty fantastic.

With the proper traits, it adds massive group utility, and since its in the same tree as both banners and shout healing, chances are you are taking one of those to supplement it as a support warrior.

Sword main hand gives you good single target lockdown, meanwhile the axe has great AoE potential for WvW/PVE.

Maybe I’m missing something about your request, but I feel like what you are asking for is already possible.

What he’s asking for isn’t to use the WH to apply buffs, but to remove buffs from other players.. to use the WH itself offensively.. to have skills in slots 1, 2 and 3 for the WH.. but OP, that’d be a little weird, don’t you think? duel wielding WHs? You can’t really do a “hit” with a WH.. what would the attack animation be? lol.. it IS a cool idea, to be able to have offensive WH abilities.. but I don’t think the WH will ever be a main hand weapon.

I do, however, hope they someday incorporate a bit of choice between the weapon slot skills.. so you could switch out skill slot 4 or 5 for different WH abilities, perhaps some could be offensive.. I would totally love that ^.^

If that’s the goal, I think that would be easier achieved by an alternative major trait. The current trait allows for condition conversion into boons for the warhorn. Maybe add a counterpart trait that converts enemy boons into conditions when they are in range. That would be pretty cool.

That’s the necro’s job.
We shouldn’t be a profession that can do exactly evertyhing what the other professions can do, even if it’s weaker.

By itself, I consider the warhorn most useful in many cases, either general PvP or end-level PvE. Espacially with the trait converting conditions to boons. Man, you can put yourself “protection” lasting as much as there are stacks of vulnerability !

Frankly speaking, I’d rather see a two-handed axe as a new addition to your arsenal.

And to this I say… Well of Power! lol the necro does a mediocre conditions → boons (like our WH trait.. and that’s a trait, WoP is a skill), so why can’t we do a mediocre boons → conditions? Not trying to justify the new Major Trait idea (even though I do think it’s cool) but I just wanted to point that out.
