Hi folks,
I’m in process of leveling up a warrior, and i’m a huge fan of the hammer. I love the playstyle and the “smash smash” aspect to it; however, as I understand it the damage is not as good as a greatsword or axe.

Are there any hammer builds viable in high end fractals/pve (arah, etc.) that can serve as a cc/dps role or should I make the switch to greatsword/axe for these situations?

From what I understand hammer is mega underwhelmed when most bosses are immun to cc’s and don’t dodge roll hundred blades. Not saying it isn’t possible but these forums probably won’t be the ones to help you as most will just say GS(for pve) or go home

I think it is viable last night I got 21 stacks of confusion on kholer last night using my hammer on him. But besides that hammer hits hard harder then a great sword but it has obnoxiously long cool downs. Making people think its not as good. However if you can ever get two hammer warriors in a dungeon group you can control pretty much all the mobs and when it comes to bosses you can knock defiant off fairly quickly.

And if one warrior is running a mace when that defiant comes off skull crack him for free hits

Is hammer dps viable? Yes. Is hammer dps preferred? No. Hammer brings a fair amount of group utility, especially when combined with a longbow for blast finishers in the fire, but if you’re looking to match greatsword/axe dps, forget it. I prefer hammer for safer, more fun runs, but a lot of groups just want the damage. YMMV.
