First off I do not play a warrior that is why I am here. My friend plays one and I think there is an issue with his build. He uses a Great Sword and is speced for DPS as a result he goes down often. while I as an ENG stay up. Heck I go complete gaming session and never go down while he has been down every other pull.

I am trying to understand what is the purpose of the Glass Canon because it seems to hurt the group more then it help.

<following numbers are just made up>

If he does 10,000 damage but goes down during the first 1/4 of the battle 1 of 2 things happen.

1) We let him die with us being a man down for the remainder of the encounter.

2) We go to raise him leaving the group 2-3 men down during the rez attempt. the rez attempt then lowering the DPS and putting at risk those that are rezzing.

If I as an eng did 20,000 damage but over 100% of the battle I would say I am a better build even though he does more DPS. My reason is I was in the fight and therefore could cleans, heal, gain aggro. kite ect while the Glass Canon once down fails to contribute anything to the fight.

Do warrior Glass Canon often take dirt and are they viable at higher levels? He is 64 right now.

Note: Only Warrior I have played is to level 6 so I admit I am clueless on the warrior and their skills.

Thanks

He could easily decrease his damage slightly and in turn pick up more toughness traits.

Also, he should be positioning himself out of AoE and generally behind mobs in order to take less damage.

Also, dodge.

Glass cannons in general often take dirt.

Yes, they are viable at higher levels. There is no PvE content in this game that a glass cannon warrior can’t do well in.

Many enemies prefer to target players with more armor over players with less. Due to the warrior’s high base armor, even glass cannons get targetted a lot. Your friend needs to focus more on dodging, and less on getting 100 blades off, or he’s going to go down a lot.

My warrior is 15/30/0/10/15 with a greatsword/axe/axe. I use FGJ, Shake it off, banner of discipline and Signet of rage. I’m wearing all Berserker gear with Soldier runes and a mix of jewelry (Emerald, Ruby, Beryl) with a berserk back piece. My GS and one axe have +crit chance sigils and one axe has the endurance regen on weapon swap sigil.

With Furious out of the Arms tree, my Adrenaline refills almost instantly and between the 15 in Strength and the weapon sigil, I’m never out of endurance when I need to dodge.

Most importantly, I use Omnomberry Pies for the precision and the 66% chance to steal life. It gives back about 300~ health a proc, and my crit chance is nearly 100% thanks to the 100% fury uptime and precision from the food and banner. Whirlwind hits 15 times, and if the Pies proc about 9 times, you get about 2700 health returned per enemy. Note that, for whatever reason, health leech food doesn’t have an ICD and can trigger multiple times a second.

Running like this, you can buff the party, remove conditions, have great survivability and put out 90% of the damage of a full dps-specced warrior without being in any fear of going down.

zerker + melee is a bad combination albeit fun (at the begining). You are right that he is probably the least dps engine in there if he gets downed pretty early in the pull.

On the other hands there are fight in favour where he gets targetted less and survives more. His damage output is incredible at that point.

If he likes glass cannon no argue here but i think he will get bored with it and will turn in toughness builds and armor.
