Question to the all true warriors
I feel like a melee class that can’t manage to stay on target easy enough and always having to wear runes of melandru + dogged march+ lemongrass and dedicate most of my utilities to condition cleanse to just stay up in wvw and tPvP. PvE I beat the hell out of everything with my full zerker gear and gs because they dont dodge.
Jade Quarry
Bacon got it 100% my sentiment, but then again you can’t go wrong with Bacon
I feel like a Juggernaut of raw destructive power which i unleash on the battlefield against my enemies.
I don’t use lemongrass or runes of melandru and i dedicate most of my abilities in controlling the enemy so that they are trying to survive instead of trying to kill me. That way, they use their cds defensively which gives me the edge
In pve i enjoy long walks at the beach as far away from Lion’s arch as possible because the sewage there stinks. Sometimes i visit my home at Hoelbrack to visit my mother in law. Apart from my mother in law, i enjoy it there.
I don’t tPvp because the armor i am given makes me look like cinderella. I don’t want to look like cinderella.
I attached pictures with 2 of my many outfits which can be served as an autograph under open a full free source licence.

I read this and even though I don’t play Warrior very often it’s a heck of a lot easier to keep on them compared to the Guardian and you can escape from a fight quite easily as well

At least someone feels as something, I do feel as I am forced to survive, i do not play your style, i like raw dmg, maybe cuz i only tpvp but idk … good that you feel that way

I’ve always been attracted to warriors in these games. I feel like just a tough guy/girl who beats stuff up with weapons and doesn’t need any of that mana/magic horse manure. Same reason why most of my first alts are thief/rogue based classes. I’ve always been a melee guy. I just never was a good caster player in WoW, but I do enjoy my Mesmer in this game.
I’m not very good in WvW though. I mostly just use support stuff like knockdowns and banners and let my guildies do the killing xD.
I have a simple question to all you who love playing warriors in any game. Do you really feel as a warrior while playing as such in gw2 ? Please state your cases about PVE tPVP and WvW. And explain what is exactly a fantasy warrior or just a warrior in your point of view.
Yes, I imagine a warrior to be similar to a berserker or a viking or a barbarian. ;3 Warriors bring this about pretty well in wvw. And in pve. But for tpvp, i’ll go guardian. 2:1. Not perfect, but it fits the imbodiment I like.

In the beginning, it wasn’t that great. But now, i’m loving it. S/S is a lot of fun. I’m glad they finally made it viable, cuz to be honest it sucked in the beginning and I’ve always been a fan of dual swords. I love seeing people come at me thinking they can own me, then running away like scared little children bleeding to death, while I hunt them down, closing in on them, ready to strike the final blow. Then I impale them while they’re down and sit and watch them die slowly as they struggle to rally. HAHA! Yeah i’m a kitten, but they had it comng.

Well, the only class in this game who doesn’t use magic AT ALL is the engineer (signets are magic).
The warrior is the second last magic user.
because he doesn’t know it himself
It does feel like a warrior last time, a power house that run straight to his enemies face while unleashing physical terror to them but now with the new food and new runes, with more conditions build being tweaked to be more OP, it’s hard to roam/1v1 as a warrior. Simply because you will need melandru+lemongrass+utility/trait filled with condition cleanse just so you can smash your enemies face to face. This does not means you’ll succeed though. You’ll get kited/blinded really bad and when you’re near to them you realize you have 8-15 stack of confusion and you won’t be able to cleanse it faster than they apply it to you. Making it worst, your enemy is a condition staff mesmer. Yes, that is how I feel on my warrior nowdays.

I’d really like to try s/s again but it just still doesnt seem viable. It used to be my favorite build months ago but the current meta is dictated by condition builds and thus a skilled player will counter it. More specifically: Passive healing builds with condition removal and good control will give you some trouble.
The main issue with warrior conditions is that we don’t apply much of anything else except a stack of bleeds. Condition removals consider bleeds to be #1 priority wise and even 25 stacks go away with one ability, if we ever manage to get that high which is doubtful.
Let us not forget that warriors have to close the gap and stay on enemies to apply high stacks.

It works well enough paired with a longbow as the swap weapon. I’ll typically shoot them a few times with the auto attack to stack a few bleeds and get rid of aegis if it’s a guardian, and try to force a dodge with fan of fire, then pin down and swap to the swords, savage leap, immediately followed by riposte because they’ll try to attack you at that point. With me they’re usually below half health at this point so then follow up with final thrust, swap back to bow and drop combustive shot on them, follow up with a stomp, then bulls charge the second they stand up, pin down, swap back to swords again (which has sigil of hydromancy on one of them so I try to do this up close so I chill them). Riposte when necessary, fear me to stop their heal, then impale them and it’s over. Then I just sit and watch them die and i’ll impale them again as they try to rally. I rarely even bother to spike anyone anymore. just watch the conditions tick away at them.

Longbow is indeed the right companion for S/S imho. Also, stick a Doom sigil in it for the poison.
I don’t run charge though, I use Balanced stance + Dolyak + Stomp.
If you get some pain on em with the bow, then savage leap into flurry followed seamlessly by stomp you have a good chance to down them then and there. It’s pretty fun to play!
Flurry is always fun when you can nail people with it. but for some reason I’ve been finding nothing but thieves lately roaming. So I prefer to use my adrenaline for the combustive shot and stand in it. It’s so funny seeing them pop out of stealth bleeding and burning while downed. I used to hate it when I was on my ele when I ran into a thief. it’ usually run away or prolong the fight long enough that they get bored and go away. They’ll always run like cowards the second their health drops too low, get out of combat, fully heal then come back and try to finish you off. And it’s just a boring tedious game of cat and mouse till one of us slips up. But now I actually like running into them. A lot of them are really kitteny and think they’ll always be able to get away. And they get mad they can’t one shot me through my high toughness and slip up. then they die in flames haha.

My first class I got to 80 was guardian and I can stay on my targets quite easy. GS leap, Sword teleport, Judges, Plenty of ways to get in and out. Half the time I am ranged though with a scepter so it doesn’t even matter.
Guardian – 2 teleports 1 leap without sacrificing a utility slot for a long cooldown sprint. Escaping from combat involves finding targets away from the enemy to teleport to which 7/10 is not the case which leaves you with 1 leap skill to get away.
Warriors – Perma Sprint, lord knows how many leaping/dashing moves, ability to cripple, immobilise and stun, mobility trait that breaks immobilises. If the warrior really wants to leg it he’s pretty much half way across the map before you can say Sausage and Bacon.

Guardians are really in a bad place at the moment but we can fair quite well in a straight up brawl still which is at least one thing.

All the leap skills you mentioned apart from flashing blades have terrible connection rates due to server side rubberbanding. Guardian scepter outside of 600 range would easily carry a 50% miss chance. Just saying. The bow has 1200 unit range..if you oook at guardian scepter some skills are 1200, some are 900..it isn’t even universal in its range. Guardians one knockdown on demand is also insta-stand back up and even though it states 2 second KD, it actually doesn’t apply. Guardians have 1 snare and that’s it..so use that 2 seconds well, your not going to be able to pin them down any longer than that. I would suggest playing guardian currently, and not recounting favored memories from beta weekend 1. I say this with all due respect.
If I compare it to GW1 and other games not east comparable to gw2(like diablo3) I feel weak. My warrior in gw1 does not die and does not need to run and or dodge. My warrior in d3 has so much sustain that I can stand and take anything.
It’s the only thing that bothers me in gw2, you feel kinda weak compared to other games.
But there is not much to do with that, too much sustain like lifesteal or life on hit would make it a monster.
If my warrior was ever given a pistol I feel like he would rather hit people with it then fire such a puny weapon
Or eat it for a snack.
I was a Prot warrior for most of WoW, and started with Warrior when GW2 launched but wasn’t feeling it for some reason. So I experimented with other classes, and got a Mesmer, Thief, and Guardian to 80 first.
Then I discovered the joys of Earthshaker and got my Warrior to 80 and have been addicted ever since. Fast movement speed + movement abilities + high burst damage (both single target and AoE) = fun fun fun!
GW2 has several types of class archetypes:
- Stationary classes (necro/guard)
- Rotational classes (ele/ranger)
- Hit and decoy classes (thief/mes)
- Fast-paced mobile classes (warrior)
- RNG/mid-range classes (engis)
Out of all these only Warrior really fits my style.
I like adrenalinic combat that requires quick-thinking and positioning.
Firstly when I started warrior I felt powerful in pvp but then I got in soloq so, and kinda, well 100% lost the feel that I’m a walking death dealing machine. In short, a warrior.. Thats why I decided to write this here to see if I’m the only one… So I started playing with my traits and decided to go “out of the box” and I saw ppl using longbows, so … I guess I started using longbow and adapt to the meta and guess what? Success rate = 80% adding the devastating hammer smashes and aoe pounding, the feel came back. Now I feel as playing warrior again. I even can’t get my longbow out of my hands now I love it too much I hope for the GS to someday be available properly with longbow :P (My favorite set), but for now smashing heads and setting them on fire seems cool.

Thief can fill a couple of these archetypes.
- Stationary classes (necro/guard, S/P thief)
- Rotational classes (ele/engis)
- Hit and decoy classes (mes, D/D thief, D/P thief, P/D thief)
- Fast-paced mobile classes (warrior, S/D thief, shortbow thief)
- RNG/mid-range classes (shortbow thief, P/P thief)
- long range/pet class (ranger)
Why do I play warrior?
Hadooken
I tend to main a Warrior in whatever game gives me the opportunity to do so. I like the idea of kicking peoples’ faces in without needing any fancy magic to help. A warrior is whoopass in its purest form. I’d have to say I really liked playing an Arms warrior in WoW’s PvP, because if you knew what you were doing, people could NOT escape you. You were a PROBLEM. You could be all over them like a cheap suit, and you were the most mobile mofo on the battlefield.
In this game, I just feel impotent. In PvP, I can barely stay on top of people, and when I actually do manage to get in melee range, I just get blinded/cc’d/evaded all to hell. Every dangerous ability the warrior does has a huge telegraph to it, thus making it ridiculously easy to dodge out of. And every time I specialize to deal with one crippling weakness, I just open myself up to another weakness that’s just as hampering.
I don’t feel like the terror on the battlefield. I feel like a short kid being bullied by a taller kid that’s dangling something I want just out of reach, making me jump to try and reach it.
i do small man group plays in WvW
often times i feel like a stereotypical older brother.
“so i heard you like picking on my younger brother (ranger). you think it’s fun to pick on someone weaker then you. huh. (pulls out hammer) earth shaker thief! you think that’s fun! come on how about another.” watches thief run off with his tail between his legs " and don’t come near my supply camp again!"
the only thing i hear in my mumble server is:
1: theres too many, like # of them!
me: we got this
2: How are you still alive?
me: # down, stomp them
5: omgomgomgomg
me: # more down
2: wtf!
me: stomp the downed
3: im omw back! guess i shouldnt have run
2: how did we survive that? how the kitten are you even alive
me: /shrug
4: what are you stats? i want my war to be like yours!
x: lol. inc!
2: oh god!
I love my war, ive got all classes to 80 and i still pretty much only play warrior. I have perfected my build. I do it all, WvW, SPvP/TPvP, and PvE with the same build.

From what you say it’s as clear as sun that you’re far away from learning the class yet.
1) As a Warrior you are the class with the second best mobility in the game, only a Thief should ever be able to escape you.
Use GS+Sword/something and you’ll see.
2) CC/blinds/evades are to be countered before you use your core skills; if you use them up-front of course they’re going to be evaded.
Baiting dodges and other defenses is fundamental to Warrior.
3) Telegraphed abilities need to be setup with CC. Enemies can’t dodge out of a stun or an immobilize.
Also, I strongly believe (by thousands of PvPs against them) that Warriors who specialize into curing a weakness are bad.
Your main goal as a Warrior is to kill people.
Sure you can waste your runes and traits into stuff that prevents conditions or heals or decreases damage.
But then you don’t kill people, at which point you aren’t a Warrior, just a bag of health running around and being an insignificant nuisance.
When I jump someone he will dirty his pants.
Focus on countering the most used getaways/time-buyers, and keep delivering punches in the face in between them, and then use your kaboom moves at the right moment to seal the deal.
You must put people on the defensive the moment you engage pvp.
The moment a Warrior is on the defensive he has lost.
(edited by Red Falcon.8257)
The moment a Warrior is on the defensive he has lost.
I disagree.
while you cannot say there is a true frontline/midline/backline like there was in gw1, all the same rules apply for kiting and peeling for your team cohesion.
you have to know when to press the enemy backline and when you need to support your own by ccing/dpsing/combo blasts/finishers, etc. whatever is on your soft target allies.
The moment a Warrior is on the defensive he has lost.
I assume you’re commenting on 1v1. In group combat the lack of sustain you’re talking about would be why a warrior has to go defensive. Peel out, breaking combat in small groups or regrouping on a waterfield in large groups.
The moment a mindless Warrior dies he has rallied enemies.
The moment a Warrior is on the defensive he has lost.
Could not disagree more. I can’t count the times when i went defensive to let my health regen kick in, or kited someone just to come back and finish them off in a nicely handled chain stun.
The best weapon is to make your opponent think you are losing the fight, then suprise them.
I would agree with you if this was wow. Thank God its not.

Question here guys. Not to hijack a thread but, am I the only one here who feels like if they ever make new weapons for all the classes, warrior should get some type of fist weapon? I really would love to be able to just run up to people and smash their face in. It could have some throws and grabs for cc and some hard hitting moves like a jab that sends them flying. I don’t know where im going with this, it just seems like it would really be fun and really fit that “in your face” style that warrior embodies.
Warrior is a Warrior, of course
Every one that go to War or conflict, and make use of some habilitie to defend a cause or an ideal can be considered an Warrior.
No matter if melee or ranged, with sword or rifle, with heavi armor or just dodging.
For example, an american soldier that fights for his country, his people or his life style.
I think all classes in this game is an Warrior, but the gw2 Warrior is a mix of some tipes of soldier.
And the main goal to Warrior is defend a cause, an ideal, something that judge important. Then gw2 warrior is lacking of some mechanic focused in this point.
Even a terrorist defend an ideal, and put his life in risk for this ideal.
- Who go to some place to just to kill isn’t warrior, is a mercenari, a murderer.
Actually, adrenaline just increase one extra weapon skill to warrior. If traited can grants extra crit chance, extra damage, or same regeneration (no more that 2 of these 3 at same time).
The excelent way to improve Warriors and make more fun are make actual Juggernaut (Rampage Transform) the base body to Warrior(without those stats, of course), allowing him to use fisical skills (rampage skills and fisical skills) for free choise, without weapon.
- Warrior start the game with all fisical skills (martial arts) unloked, and could unlock weapon skills as actual mode.
- Warrior could have an extra mechanic that allow him to stow his 2 weapon set and fight without weapon, making use of fisical skills (fisical and juggernaut).
- Adrenaline could have more weight, impoving Skill (efficiency, duration and range), body (base stats, health regeneration and endurance regeneration), and urgency (action speed and action cooldown).
- The actual fisical skills in utilitie menu could be replaced for another tipe of skills.
I think gw2 warriors would more fun and more like true warrior.

OR combine One weapon with unarmed combat.
However, what about these guys?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landsknecht
Those were professional soldiers, coming from the worst places to try and raise themselves from misery or die trying. They don’t properly foght for a cause. Are they warriors or not?

Warriors – Perma Sprint, lord knows how many leaping/dashing moves, ability to cripple, immobilise and stun, mobility trait that breaks immobilises. If the warrior really wants to leg it he’s pretty much half way across the map before you can say Sausage and Bacon.
Agreed but guardians are a pain in the kitten when warriors stay and fight :P
Guardians have the new 25% Speed Runes now.
25% is less than 33% and we have to sacrifice plenty to get the 25% speed buff effect so no.
“Jim’ll Fix It and if he doesn’t it’s not broken”
I feel like a melee class that can’t manage to stay on target easy enough and always having to wear runes of melandru + dogged march+ lemongrass and dedicate most of my utilities to condition cleanse to just stay up in wvw and tPvP. PvE I beat the hell out of everything with my full zerker gear and gs because they dont dodge.
Play a guardian and tell what you feel.

Is not a good rune set for guardians, and any class can use them, so bad for us.
And still without soft CC and a lot vulnerable to cripple, immobilize and chill effects.
