My charr warrior is now at the point where I begin to question skill point usage, as well as what weapons I should use. My first question is should I be cautious about using my skill points because there is not enough to pick up all abilities? Or should I just spend away and pick up everything I can? I am new to guild wars 2 so this is why I am asking.

Next question is sword and shield or axe and shield, and or mace and shield useful for end game? Not much of a fan of the two handed animations aside from the hammer. I realize you can not do spear and shield, found that out in the other forum. The opening scene of a bunch of charr soldiers marching with spear and shield got me thinking about that. Anyways any help on these questions would be great.

Welcome! When you get to level 80 skill points will get thrown at you. Until then I would suggest prioritizing picking signets and banner skills as you level up. If your planning on going for direct damage go for axe shield, otherwise sword shield for condition damage.

For leveling purposes your weapons and build are less important than max level, and you can run whatever you want. Strictly in regards to damage, a greatsword or axe mainhand is your best option. Greatsword has mobility, that’s the main advantage over axe for leveling. Axe has a better autoattack, so it’s easier to use for new players, since some greatsword abilities can be a bit clunky (like Whirlwind attack).

For skill points, you can have an infinite amount of them, since you can get them even at 80 from experience. Spend them on whatever.

To directly answer your question:

Next question is sword and shield or axe and shield, and or mace and shield useful for end game?

It is not optimal. Shield, mainhand mace, and mainhand sword can be used for niche purposes (extra block for this boss, etc) but generally speaking they can not be your primary weapon. Axe can be used extensively, and even though it isn’t optimal with a proper build it can put out competent numbers compared to a Greatsword build.

This information is only for power (direct) damage builds. For condition (bleeding, burning, those DoTs) builds, dual sword is actually incredibly effective.

Thank you for the welcome and the information. It gives me a much better idea of what a person’s warrior should be like in guild wars 2.
