Rifle warrior solo
You are not wrong.
Melee DPS is greater than Ranged DPS once you learn fights and doding.
That being said, there are quite a few scenarios where range wins out in DPS and, overall, it is a safer option.
Do not focus on conditions. Here is a build I just made for general PvE.
Sorry, I rushed it. If you have any questions, ask me.
Healing Signet. Yes Healing Surge provides more HPS, sure, but the point is that you will rarely be taking damage. While Healing Surge is great in a quagmire, healing signet + omnom will let you stay at max hp to survive those brief moments of damage.
It’s a very “noobish” build in the eyes of many, but it does good damage and is ideal if you personally prefer range. Don’t let people tell you what to do.
Also, you can just put 25 into str if you want, but I feel that stronger bowstrings is an absolute must if you plan to use both rifle and long bow.
Whilst Cook is being modest, most people will crucify an all ranged Warrior. You CAN do it, and you can deal good damage whilst doing so, but it really isn’t what we are made for. I’m assuming were talking about PvE here so I’ll follow that context. The pure ranged players (staff Elementalist, ranger, Mesmer etc) bring a lot more to the table than just DPS, DPS which is comparable to a ranged Warrior.
For instance the Ele has strong healing potential, the ranger will out DPS yours in a heartbeat (though at the moment dungeons are very anti-pet) and the Mesmer has invaluable skills such as Portals and TimeWarp.
What Warriors absolutely excel at is melee damage. The best in the game. So it’s really wasted potential going all ranged on a Warrior.
But really it’s up to you, hang the rules and go full ranged Warrior if its what you want to do (actually happens in high level fractals where any sort of melee conflict with bosses is a big no no) but for the most part, a warrior with two ranged weapons will raise some eyebrows and you’ll suffer the wrath of elitists.
Also regarding your comment about condition damage. Never spec for condition damage (or healing power) our damage comes from power/precision/crit damage.

FULL Ranged Warrior? Probably doable, but not ideal.
Nothing wrong at all with having a Ranged weapon as a backup though. Warriors can switch weapons the fastest of all classes so you can dip and duck in and out of fights switching between your melee and ranged weapon.
There are certian fights where it is impossible to melee, so having a solid ranged backup plan never hurts.
GS rifle or GS / LB style woot!
I’ve played the ranger, engineer, and and elementalist. So far i’ve yet to really find a jack of trades that has what i’m looking for. Something that can range and still take a decent number of hits. Ranger came close, but the pet dying issue really hurts it.
So now i’m looking at warrior. I’ve seen a lot of them running around with rifles and I know one of the trees at max level focuses on bleeds. Bleeds if I understand it being one of the better dots to have on a target. Along with decent defense and heavy armor it seems that the rifle, though single target, would make a good solo/group character.
Am I wrong in this assessment?
Ranger is the highest survivability ‘ranged’ play style (mix cleric with soldier and use LB/SB with a 0/10/30/0/30 so x3 passive regens with food).
Warrior Rifle is a one trick pony, you need to land that burst and you need to gear heavy DPS and since all the other ‘solo’ players would be either massive burst or condition based you will get wasted by the first half decent player).
I do believe we are talking about PvE yes? Never confuse it with PvP/WvW when giving advice, they are all so very different. Well I’m assuming its PvE as you said the Ranger’s pet dies which just doesn’t happen outside of dungeons.

Well going on your post, yes the Rifle Warrior would fit that. Going further, AOE is a necessary component in PVE and Rifle has no AOE. I assume your second weaponset would have AOE (longbow or melee) and if rifle is your main for non grouped AOE things, than sure, my rifle in zerker gear does big damage compared to the rest of the classes
I accidentaly posted this post on the wrong thread, I don’t know how so i post it hier.
It is about people telling rifle warrior is a one trick pony or is less powerfull than other profession :
- First, a warrior with a rifle deals way more damage than a Ranger with a longbow and/or shortbow, because part of the ranger dps is based on his pet, and his pet easely dies in PVE and is avoided in PVP by strafing. And by the way, sword rangers are hitting harder than ranged ones.
- Secondly, the only one trick pony build with rifle is when you are running full Berserker gear because you rely everything on 2 easely avoidable skills.
I personnaly play 20/30/0/0/20 with a full Rampager damage set. With 80% bleed duration (+100% when switching to Sword&Shield) and Superior Sigil of Earth and I can get above 3K constant DPS with auto attacks, and this is without taking my skill number 3 into consideration when I need a bit of burst. And on top of that I have 100% critical chance with fury. I can switch whenever I want to my sword and shield if I need a gab closer or a block, and with distracting strike I can deal 3 intensity of confusions for 6,5sec multiple times (Kick, Shield Bash, and Rifle But) whenever anyone is foolish enough to get close and personnal and gets interupted.
Now my build has a lot of flaws too, that’s why it is always better to stay with someone able to support you whenever it is needed, but it offers also lot of way to lock down your ennemies and pressure them with a good mix of Physical&Condition DPS and controls.
So I disagree, Rifle is not a 1 trick pony weapon and is capable of dealing high sustained DPS and Burst at the same time while keeping confortable kiting abilities and quick control supports.
Edit : Name of the sigil sinds my version was a bad translation from French to Enlgish.

“Superior Sigil of Stone” ?
“Superior Sigil of Stone” ?
Yeah sorry, it is Superior Sigil of Earth…
That’s when you try to translate things from French to English without checking the wiki page, for the correct information. :/
