S/D thieves... still my biggest counter
Whats the Problem? You shouldnt counter every class.
S/d thieves have Problems with condi pu mes, necromancers and some engi specs aswell as spirit rangers.
Its called Balance
Of course ^
I am not saying I should own them all.
I find it a bit harder to accept that a build I am playing will always lose to another (hard counter), but OK.
I still wanna hear some advice and opinions on which weapon/traits/combos and such could do better against them
I think they are earned their victory
but if u really want some tactic then try to perform skills with hammer when they performs weapon skill dodge so your slow hammer animation ends right when their dodge ends. For example if u use F1 it stuns them on the end of their dodge. They can’t evade it then without using something like shadowstep because the animation forces them to follow certain path.
They are dodgy slippery thieves so don’t swing your weapon mindlessly. Watch them and perform your attacks when those can actually land. There is no point making attack to go cd, no dmg on enemy and text missed or similar to appear. This is slow way to kill thief but atleast you can do it.
If you still fail to defeat them it’s earned victory for them ^^
People seems using word “trolling” out of context way too often…
S/d thief isnt even the hard counter to your warrior. D/p or s/p is.
S/d used to be the hard counter Vs boon heavy opponents until it got nerfed into oblivion.
Yeah S/P is total faceroll vs warriors, but didn’t want to get into that as the build is less viable for team match.
I actually don’t find d/p thief as that much of a problem, but if you think S/D “got nerfed into oblivion” then you are not fighting good players.
protip: use leg specialist
leg specialist seems like it would be pretty standard on any of my warrior builds.
Thief running S/D is lacking. It doesn’t do a high amount of damage like a main-hand dagger, the abilities from stealth are lackluster, shadow return takes a small eon to complete, and C&D is easy to dodge. I run Axe/Warhorn + Hammer and have little trouble with S/D thieves.
I initiate combat with a hammer and use crowd control abilities to force the thief the burn stun-breaking abilities. Most thieves will run Shadow Step as the sole stun-breaking ability. Some run Infiltrator’s Signet and that is depicted in their states (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Infiltrator%27s_Signet). This tells you that they have two stun-breaking abilities, and you need to burn both.
Once the stun-breakers are gone, wear the thief down further and throw down a stun of ~1 second prior to using Eviscerate. A 100% critical chance helps ensure that you can burn ~50% HP in that one attack (assuming ~16K HP with 8K eviscerates).
In my opinion, bursting abilities are they key to defeating a thief. They down quickly.
Inactive: Guardian, Elementalist, Ranger, Thief (ex-main)
Leveling: Engineer, Necromancer
Either leg specialist or -even better- a hammer.
You need to hit them between vade frames, and make that hit count. Hammer disables nowadays will disrupt the thief and hurt him a lot.
You could do the same with other weapons, but you have to time more hits correctly, which can be impossible in a messy fight.
because he doesn’t know it himself
