I was running around in WvW today and ran into the same Warrior three times running Sword/Sword and never weapon swapping. He was never alone, but who he was with each time was different (twice a thief, once a necro).

What was surprising me was that I kept getting stacks of confusion. Naturally, I figured this was Runes of Perplexity. I figured they were on the thief at first, but since the necro can’t actually use them well (Fear doesn’t proc them) and I was still getting stacks, it must have been the Warrior. However, the number of stacks I was getting (9 or so) made no sense to me. He wasn’t knocking me down, so how was he giving me stacks of confusion?

Rune of Perplexity and Distracting Strikes would amount to 9 stacks of Confusion on interrupt.

Interrupts can be caused with knockdown, knockback, daze, stun and launch. A S/S would still have access to plenty of those, considering that Bull’s Charge is a knockdown, Kick is a knockback and Stomp is a launch. And it would be possible to get both Distracting Strikes and Physical Training by going 30 into Strength.

Unless you were getting those 9 stacks during the Warrior/Necro encounter, the Thief was likely running Perplexity as well.

You said he was never knocking you down, but were they interrupting you? Did they ever interrupt your attack animations, whether a knockdown or not?

OPP would be the authority on this since they all pretty much run it..

I assumed it was the thief for the first two encounters, but I had the same number when facing the Warrior with the necro. I know I was never dazed, stunned, or knocked back, I don’t believe I was knocked down (though that could have happened while I was in death shroud, the animations are harder to read then).

I was just confused because I know there are no interrupts on Sword/Sword, so it had to come from utilities.

The runes give 5 stacks on interrupt and 3 stacks @ 20% chance on hit, plus the additional 4 stacks on interrupt if a warrior is traited for it. So here and there you may see 12 stacks on a single hit.

Robo is not in [oPP], no need to smack talk him good sir. His signature is just there to mock us. Also most of us don’t run perplexity because we feel it’s a rune-set that carries players. As for the post itself, guessing it might have just been a thief all by himself applying it.

i’ve been using perplexity runes and distracting strike during the queen’s jubilee too. It’s really fun lol.
