I have played on and off since the beta way back when, I recently took a pretty substantial break from the game for a few months and came back around the middle/end of this past season. I wanted to ask a serious question of “What does the warrior bring to the table that another profession doesn’t already do better than the warrior?” It’s an honest question because I am not really sure at this point. I love playing warrior classes/professions in every game I play, I just don’t feel like we have the same niche or uniqueness in this game that I feel when playing some other games and I was wondering if I was missing out on a certain play style or what. I mainly sPvP and WvW if that helps to answer my question to a greater extent. Thanks ahead of time guys and gals!

Honestly, I don’t know that there is anything we do better than others. Maybe group offensive buff? Even then, it only plays out in pve and I’m not even sure if it’s true anymore.

That said, I don’t even know that we have to be the best at anything in particular. There’s an argument to be made for being really good at a lot of things without necessarily being the best at one (especially if you can be good at a couple of things at the same time). We’re not that either though, imo.

Which isn’t to say there isn’t fun to be had with the class. But I don’t think there’s a particular role they’re especially great at relative to others, no. At least, not outside of group buff in pve.

In group buff for pve though they really are amazing 1k power and 880 condi damage 170 precision and 170 ferocity is nothing to ignore.

I kind of suspected as much (and I know they used to be), but I don’t really play pve so I wasn’t sure if they’d been eclipsed by something else in this regard.

Thanks for setting it straight.

New perspective: Warriors are different from every single other profession in that they’re the simplest.
As a Warrior, you use no magical implements, and none of your weapon skills rely on magic; you use only brute force, and your special mechanic (adrenaline-charged attacks, which gain power while you’re in battle and lose it while you’re resting) only drives the point home. Your longbow skills burn foes because you literally light your arrows on fire. The semi-unique skills you use to buff yourself and your opponents are basically just fighting stances, battle standards (okay, so maybe those are a little bit magical…), and rallying cries (your shout utilities, as well as warhorn skills).
TL;DR: Not having to deal with magic is, in a way, awesome. Especially if you’re a charr. :P

That’s thematic uniqueness, yes (though to be fair, that’s also somewhat true of engineers), but I believe the OP was more concerned with mechanical or functional uniqueness. For example, what a warrior is meant to specialize in/excel at above other classes, such as damage dealing, CC, buffs, etc. Aside from offensive buffs, as mentioned above, there’s not much at all we really excel at beyond others. And even then, the offensive buffs are only really useful in certain content.

Mechanically warrior sucks nowadays. There is no speciality in it except banners, and they are not “that” useful. I think Anet can not find a way to make warriors useful without giving them too much. I was hoping a miracle, like stances becoming F skills, or stance and banner cd’s shortening traits.
