Hey guys, I recently purchased the entire Ascalonian armor set with Power, Toughness, and Vitality in hopes to run this build (http://www.gw2builds.org/create/bwe_1/warrior#1.0.3.0-2.11.9.10.3-0.0.30.30.10-11.4.8.4.9.12.3) for WvW and Dungeons. I have both Zerker jewels and Valk jewels, but I’d probably wear the valk set for more vit.
Some of it is not 100%, I haven’t played around with it enough, haven’t tried warhorn/axe or mace, however I thought the monk runes that come with the armor would be nice with healing shouts and my base heal.

With just some quick testing it seems like the healing from monk runes (165 and 128 from my hammer) really don’t do much for heals. Base heal is 5,560 and with the bonus 293 it only bumps my self heal to 5,853. Literally.
Is this stat broken or is it supposed to be almost useless?

I am now currently wondering if it might be worth it to replace the monk runes with Soldier runes and just go max vit/toughness and forget about the healing power stat.
My current armor (using valk jewels) is 2751 @28,702 hp unbuffed.

thanks.

I also noticed that heals from shouts aren’t that big, but since you’re doing them very often it’s nice to have around. I personally prefer the soldier rune to the monk rune, shouts curing conditions is phenomenal. For dungeons I run mace/mace and hammer with 0/0/10/30/30 with shouts heal, and burst skills recharging faster as the backbone to the build for high amounts of earthshakers and skull cracks.

I think a lot of people will agree though that healing power just isn’t what you want it to be and only modifies healing by a little for most skills. I always ignore healing power for the most part. So yeah, I’d go with soldier runes, but everything I’ve said is my opinion.

Different skills get a different amount of your healing stat. Mending for example gets 100%. For regeneration it is 0.125 * healing stat per second plus some other things (5 + (1.562 * Level) to be specific). If memory does not fail me, vigorous shouts are 0.8 * your healing stat +1192.

As you can see – adding 100 vitality will give you 1,000hp. Adding 100 compassion will give you 100hp via your healing ability. At first glance it appears compassion is useless.
If you look at shouts though, that 100 compassion will give 80hp to say… 5 people. You only need 2-3 of these shouts and your group as a whole has received more hp than the vitality would have given you as an individual. In WvW I can imagine this is quite powerful.

A case of personal preference though for sure.

The numbers are right, thanks. One other thing, Norns, with soldier runes, do you know if shouts cure conditions to anyone in radius, group members, self only?

After further testing with the numbers given above, shouts are 1666 with monk runes, 1448 without, and though it seems negligible, that’s 654 more heals getting pumped out from all 3 shouts.

the shout heals and condition removals affect all friendlies in their radius. player, pet or NPC. no limit to number of targets.

Remember though, with condition removal, you’re essentially stopping damage from happening. You could remove a 10 second poison that’ll do 3k damage or something, and I personally would rather stop the damage in its place instead of trying to heal through it. Everyone in this game has to bring a heal skill, but not everyone has to bring condition removal.

I’m running a 10/0/30/30/0 build, with a hammer and rifle or longbow on swap. I’ve got a mix of Knights and Power/vit/tough gear, netting me 3000power and 3500 armor. I’ve only about 23K hp, but as all shouts remove conditions then vitality has a lower value to me than toughness.

Sorry, I’m rambling. My point is, if you run with Soldier runes to remove conditions with shouts, Toughness become more valuable than vitality!
