Is a build with a greatsword and dual wield sword make any sense to anyone? Cause that is what I am planning and a friend of mine said it is completely weird. something about GS = power S/s= condition.
That’s right. It is weird. The greatsword is indeed a power-based weapon, meaning that your equipment choice should have a focus towards increasing that statistic (power, and perhaps precision and critical damage too). The sword, tough, relies more on condition damage through it stacking bleeding on the enemies. Your equipment choice should have a focus towards condition damage (and perhaps some power too) to make this weapon more effective. Either way, if you focus on both, both are sub-par. If you focus on one, the other is sub-par. It’s best to choose a weapon set that compliments your primary choice (i.e. Longbow for condition with s/s, or axe/axe for power with gs).
hm, so there is no way of making this work at all?
Go for precision and arms then. You get fury from GS burst and might on crit. Then for the sword you get bleed on crit and 50% longer bleeds.
1) You can make anything work in PvE/WvW
2) In SPvP use GS + x/shield or reroll.

Honestly, for player-versus-player, I wouldn’t even try. You need to excel at something, not be mediocre at everything. If it’s not for that purpose, pick up the Deep Cuts trait at least and you can probably get away using a tankier build, i.e. Toughness/Power/x
IMO, whether it will work at all is up to you. You can make it work if you try; but in terms of efficiency—-no it will not work. If you just like exploring; sure it’ll work. But if you like dungeoning where your PvE builds matter the most then try a different setup; The most basic reason is the fact that you should have a balance of range and melee. You’ll find it in dungeons that some things cannot be done purely with melee without hindering your team.
But I guess it goes as follows
WvW & Adventure PvE
- Sure, it could work for giggles, but it’s not very optimal
Dungeon PvE
- Not a good idea, better invest in learning how to use the bow/rifle unless you just want to run melee-friendly dungeons
